Truth or Dare has always been a fun and thrilling game that a youngling experienced as they grew up. But even adults may find themselves challenged to tell a secret or take on a dare. Which one will you pick, and how does it all play out?
[ Play out this prompt response by your character responding to a truth or a dare. If you're playing with another character, both will need to respond to their own individual challenge. If this is a solo, play out the response as if challenged by an NPC. ]
Ever since Mina had taken that job in Oba – her first and hopefully last with those people– she’d been a little too busy to run into Oly. While Matori was nowhere near as dear to her as home it was a comfortable place for her and Oba had been…taxing. The dry heat had been harsh on her skin and the feeling of hot sand under her armor stuck with her for days, even after she’d thoroughly washed it out.
As soon as she’d been able to Mina sent a letter to Oly, asking if he’d like to meet with her on the beach for lunch. She knew he was working – or assumed so, anyway – so she took the time to gather up anything at the market that looked good. Some grilled fish, cut into cubes with a little spicy dipping sauce on the side – something she’d been told was all the rage in Belrea – fruits, and some leafy things that she didn’t quite know. If she’d been more accustomed to Tendaji meals she’d have known they were better washed, chopped and at least steamed, but nevertheless they were in the basket.
Every little sound that came from the dock nearby had Mina turning her head, just as every voice from the village caught her ear. Would he come? Would the little messenger boy she’d paid find him or would he throw her letter into the nearest ditch? As she spread out a blanket on the sand Mina had to wonder….”Maybe I should just go find him myself? No no just give it a minute. He’s busy and he might not even want to come.”

Oly gave the xaraan another nudge to hurry along the path toward the requested meeting spot. The letter had reached him just as he had been unloading his catch from that morning. Since then, he'd been impatiently shoving his fish at any vendor willing to buy with minimal haggling. He'd rushed home to shower, as showing up to a lunch smelling like sweat and fish slime was certainly low on the appealing-lunch-date scale. Then he'd swallowed his discomfort and nabbed up one of the family xaraan to make the trip easier and more quickly.
This was a worthwhile cause. A little discomfort for the sake of catching up with Mina... and speaking of which! He slowed the creature down as they crossed the dock and dropped onto the sands of the beach. He did a quick finger-comb of his hair and smoothed his shirt before he waved cheerfully. "Mina!"

Mina lifted her head toward the sound and all at once her anxieties melted into a warm smile. There he was, riding atop the sand on a....big...xaraan - that's what it was - and looking for all the world like light itself. She rose from the blanket, brushed a little sand off her skirt and waved to him. For once she was wearing an outfit of her own, and this time, it had been chosen to match Oly's new hair, which she was beyond ecstatic to see hadn't changed again.
"I'm so glad you came. I didn't want to bother you, but it's been a while so I thought we could have a little lunch to catch up?" She motioned to the blanket and the delicately organized spread she'd made.

Seeing Mina's delight only made Oly's chest swell with affection. It had definitely been worth rushing around to see that smile. He hopped down and made a quick detour to tie the xaraan's lead to an old dock post. There would be no trusting the beast to not tromp over the lovely looking picnic Mina had set up! "I promise, coming to see you is never a bother." With his ride secure, he walked over and.. paused. Did.. he just shake her hand? Could he hug her? Kiss her cheek? Was he rushing? She was just so great... he didn't want to mess anything up! "Lunch is perfect actually. I haven't eaten anything since I got up before fishing."

"Really?" Her concern blended with an aggravated huff as she patted the blanket. "Come on then, sit down and eat something. You need to take better care of yourself or you'll get sick. Am I going to have to start visiting you before you go out just to make sure you eat?" She meant to prove a point, had even leveled him with a 'look', but even as she said it Mina caught herself. Was that being too forward? Was it being bossy or pushy? He's a grown man, he can take care of himself.
But she could take care of him too, so....Maybe it wouldn't be so hard to change out of her costume at night, just before she went to bed, and head down to the dock? It wasn't like it was far....And he would never notice.
"A-anyway," She gave a little nervous laugh and poured him a glass of cool water. "I heard that earthlings play a little game to get to know one another better and I thought we could try it out, if you wanted to? I think it's called truth or dare?"

The firm scolding caught him by surprise. That certainly hadn't been expected, but, somehow, it didn't seem out of place for Mina. She seemed like someone who honestly cared and would let it show. "I'll try to do better," he assured, moving a little quicker to sit down.
One did not dawdle after receiving a Look.
"Really? I've never heard of it before." It certainly sounded intriguing though. If this was a way to get to know Mina better, then he would be all for it! He started picking food onto his plate, not being at all shy about overloading it a little. "How do we start?"

"It's really simple. I'll ask you whether you want to pick truth or dare, then you choose which one. If you pick truth then I get to ask a question and you have to answer it honestly, no matter what it is." She said with a bit of a smirk. Of course she wouldn't ask anything too scandalous, but maybe enough to ruffle his feathers. "And if you pick dare then you have to do whatever I tell you to. If you fail on either one I get to give you a punishment."
The Hapuna picked up a number of fruits and some bits of grilled fish for her own plate before looking back to him. "So, truth or dare?"

Oly felt himself hesitate as he listened to the rules. Not that he had any deep dark secret to hide, but he was used to company that he knew would take liberties with such allowances! Mina wouldn't delve into anything too wild, right? ..right? He took a deep breath to brace himself and smiled through the caution. "This has the potential for trouble. Okay. Let's go with truth."

Should I...? No no, don't...well, but...
"Trouble? From me? You, maybe, but I'm innocent." She grinned.
If she got a little out of hand with her questions it might turn the tides on their little outing, and yet...Mina was hoping for it. Just a little. Anxiety made her skin tingle as she straightened her posture just a bit and when she gathered her courage she made sure to keep her hands on her lap, just to hide the tremor.
"Is there someone special in your life? Someone you...think of a little more fondly than everyone else?"

Oly laughed lightly and held his hands up in a relenting shrug. "Does no good to deny who I am," he said playfully, carefully avoiding getting too sassy lest the questions get amped up as a result.
Ah, but that question... that was already fairly up there! His cheeks darkened a little, but he found himself meeting Mina's eyes in a subconsciously pointed manner. "I would have to say.. yeah. There is someone." A flicker of an image went through his mind. A confident and capable woman with a mask fighting for what was right. It was a vague image, since he had only ever seen her in the dark... One time, really... The moment passed as quickly as it had come though, and a beautiful woman as bright as the sun replaced the mysterious fantasy figure...
Stopping himself from staring too obviously, he turned his eyes to look at what snack to grab next. "Your turn. Truth or dare?"

She tried not to look too interested in his answer, but Mina did find herself leaning closer. Her skin felt warm, a little too warm, and she could have sworn that her throat had swam up her throat just to have a look. And he - He'slookingatme! While the young lady was able to remain perfectly poised on the outside, despite the flush to her skin and the light in her eyes, internally she was screaming. He was looking at her, and...and...he said someone.
So what if it wasn't her? What if it was someone else? No, no it can't be...right? She'd never really talked to him about this sort of thing before so it was possible...
"Hmm. What?" Oh spirits, he'd been talking. What were they doing again? Oh, right! "D-dare. I'll take a dare."

Gosh, that flushed hue was so cute on Mina's cheeks... Oh, a dare? He hadn't given it much thought before asking! What should he dare her to do? Something funny? Something bold? Something risky? He suddenly found himself nervous and overthinking on possible dares. Not too risky, but not excessively safe.
Oly allowed himself a moment to consider the options and nodded. "Okay. I dare you to show me your favorite dance."

"My favorite dance? Well...I suppose." With a nervous smile, Mina moved to stand and brushed the palms of her hands off on her dress. The lighter fabric would have been enchanting on someone who was practiced with the moves she was about to make, but what the Hapuna lacked in dancing prowess she would make up for with enthusiasm.
"Just promise not to make fun of me. It's been a while." Taking a deep breath, Mina started to dance. Her skin burned and it wasn't because of the sun. Just knowing he was near, watching every move she made...It was as exciting as it was nerve wracking.

Mina may not have been a professional dancer, but her moves still made Oly wish he had been more willing to play a risk with his dare. If they did a few more rounds.. maybe he would be brave enough. It was practically impossible to not gawk like a lustful lout, but he thought he'd managed to remain outwardly relaxed. "Well, this game isn't so bad," he managed playfully.
