Deidameia 1 The crowd surged around Deidameia where she walked, holding the collar of her cloak closed around her body so the bright fabric underneath was hidden under its dull greyness, the hood pulled up over her equally as bright hair. No one paid her much attention, except when she got a little too close or bumped into someone. Than sometimes they'd curse at her or grumble about her getting in their way. She didn't really care. It was worth it to remain anonymous. She could handle the disgruntled crowd. It was a price worth paying for a little bit of freedom now and again. Away from the sometimes stifling atmosphere of her father's manor house. She understood where he was coming from. Really, she did. When you had made so many enemies of half or more of the population of rich families, you couldn't know who to trust, even out on he streets. Especially out on the streets. Her hair stood out against the backdrop of browns and blacks. She couldn't risk being seen. But it took its toll after a while. Stuck inside. Reading the same books. Taking the same strolls through the garden. Even dollmaking started to lose its appeal after too long. And so she'd left. Snuck out of the house like on so many other occassions before. Her destination? Anywhere but home.
The sight of storefronts made her smile. She usually ended up coming here when she was out by herself. When she took her guard, she'd go to the orphanage, to deliver toys to the children. But the next batch was still being sewn or designed. She still had to think up outfits for two of them. She continued walking past a store selling fabrics until she reached one with books. The coin in her purse would afford her a new book or two. Something to pass the time with while she sat outside in the shade. Or perhaps something nice to read to her mother. She walked towards it and entered, the hand on her cloak releasing its hold to instantly pick up a nearby book. Moving to a corner, she idly flipped through it, not paying attention to anyone else who might be in here with her.

Calix had taken the day to venture out by himself into the markets. It was frustrating knowing he had a shadow lingering behind him on every corner, but at least he only had one guard today that followed him as he shopped. The young nobleman was intent upon finding a gift for his grandmother today and had told his family he didn't want to be bothered, clearing his schedule so that he could prepare for her birthday. It was the least he could do for his grandmother, even though she didn't want to openly celebrate it Calix wanted to do at least this for her. She had been a bit withdrawn lately, Calix worrying that she had been dwelling to much on their missing family and the past rather than focusing on the present, and so he wandered looking for anything that might bring a smile to her face.
There were trinkets, dresses and the like but none of that really seemed like something special for his grandmother. No, she was much more of a reader like him and less invested in things like fashion. So perhaps the bookstore? Calix's gaze brightened as he noticed the storefront full of books on display, the titles catching his gaze. Maybe he could find a good fantasy novel for her or some sort of herbalist book? That would be good, if he could just find something new that wasn't already in their family's library. He was so fixated on that idea that he didn't even notice the familiar girl that he passed, his shoulder barely brushing against her as he reached for a tome that caught his eye.

Deidameia 2 Other people filed into the store and left it, Regular citizens of the city just going about their day. The young noble never expected to ever find someone familiar in one of these shops, though maybe she should start to. Now that she was formally out in society, introduced and invited to parties, she had come to collect many acquaintances that may also have a taste for books or crafts like she did. It wasn't like before, when she could leave the house incognito and never be recognized. A lot of the tranquility she had enjoyed as just the daughter of a noble house was gone. Of course, she had always been known as a member of the Damaris family. But now that spotlight was shining ever brighter on her than ever it had been before.
The slight touch on her arm did little to get her attention. Deidameia shifted her feet away, glancing up only enough to see if there was adequate room for the two of them. Her eyes fell onto his face and she gave a little gasp of surprise, nearly dropping the book she had been holding. If only that was all that had happened. Her whole body started at the recognition, so much so that her elbow on the opposite side brushed against a tower of books, causing the entire thing to topple over onto the floor in a loud tumble of leather, crushing some of the pages of the books. How embarrassing! She wanted to hide away inside the hood of her cloak, but it was impossible. Everyone was looking this way.
"I am so sorry." she quickly said, putting away the book she had bene holding and bending down to start trying to clean up her mess. Why did this have to happen in front of another she knew? Maybe he wouldn't recognize her. Maybe he'd ignore this and walk away, consider it completely beneath him as it probably was. She just couldn't bare to be known as the clumsy girl within her own circles.
