When Eurig received word that a childhood friend needed his help he’d dropped everything to go to his side. Ahma had grown up in the same village that Eurig’s father, Odhran, lived in and ran its tavern. Sweetly enough he’d gotten the idea for it after hearing some of Eurig’s tales about his mother and although this was a far tamer establishment than any Ujana might have visited the basics were still there. Good drinks, good food and a warm atmosphere.

Eurig had been visiting with his father when word came through that Ahma needed a helping hand running the tavern or he’d have to shut down. The man had been involved with an accident – something to do with a cart, Eurig wasn’t sure on the details – but it had broken the bones in his leg. Magical healing could only do so much so for a time Ahma would need to stay home and, as much as she’d like to step in to help with the tavern, Ahma’s wife wanted to stay by his side.

So, Eurig volunteered to help. He had experience with books and ordering, as well as a knack for keeping up with orders and dealing with rude customers. When Ahma offered to pay him a hefty sum for his help Eurig just shook him off. Money was all well and good, but helping friends was worth so much more. So long as he could scrap a few bits of food here and there for meals he’d consider the debt paid.

As for the patrons though…Some of them were a little gruffer than Eurig had imagined. They were friendly enough to him at first, but once some of the older generation caught onto who exactly he was they would pass sneers his way. He tried not to let it bother him, but it was hard to hide the grit in his teeth when an old timer would murmur a slur under their breath. Was this how his siblings were treated, just because they were hybrids? It wasn’t as if he was unused to being taunted, he’d had enough of that in Jauhar, but now…Well, if he dried the mead steins a little too aggressively who could blame him?

“Hey boy. C’mere and gimme the strongest you got.” When he turned to look it was a pair of older Taleans seated at the bar, each with a hard glare to their dark green eyes. Even if their hair was nearly silver the two men, who were obviously twins, had an air about them that put Eurig on edge.

One of the servers, Jisena, placed an arm on his shoulder as she passed. “It’s okay, I got them, “ She whispered under her breath. As she got closer to them she got a little louder, “Oh come on, Varno! You know I make your drinks just the way you like them. Let me get you set up.”

“I want him to do it.” The old man nodded to Eurig and didn’t so much as look her way. “We’ll make a game of it, hmm? Calm enough in here for it. How about Truth or Dare?”

His brother grinned and gave his brother a pat on the shoulder.

“Yeah, sure,” Eurig tossed the drying rag over his shoulder and stepped closer. He reached for a glass, then for a bottle of the strongest swile they had and started to pour. “Ask your question.”

“Truth or Dare?” He made a grabbing motion for the glass, and once it was in his hand he waved it, urging Eurig to hurriedly answer.

“Dare.” Whatever sort of question he had to ask was likely a way to further insult his family and Eurig wasn’t going to have it. Better he run through town naked or drink aldabuk urine. Quick, simple, disgusting but over.

“For the rest of the night whenever someone comes in you gotta howl. Real loud like.”

That was it? A howl? It seemed so…tame, compared to what Eurig had in mind, but he wasn’t about to argue. “Okay, I can do that. So what about you, Truth or Dare?”

Varno hummed for a moment. “Truth. I wanna see what’cha got.”

“What’s the strangest rumor you’ve ever heard about yourself?”

Varno’s brother snickered and the man went on to recount a ‘story’ from his youth about the tall candy grass, three married women, a two headed Zenan and a lot of hallucinogenic berries. Several times throughout his story Eurig was forced to howl, which would startle not only the new patron but Varno himself. The man would temporarily jump, sometimes curse, but it always ended in a laugh before he would go on to other bits of the game.
