Malea 1
Malea could see the signs before they had happened. The damp air in the swamps of Elehune were even more oppressive than usual, the winds had picked up and shifted direction, and the animals were scarce to be seen. She knew they had taken shelter in their own homes and she wouldn’t see them again until after the storms had passed.
She tried to look for Kalpana, knowing that he spent his days fishing she hoped that he had also seen the signs and would pack it in for the day. She paced the wooden house that she knew was his and his but didn’t see anyone inside.

Kalpana 1
Kalpana rubbed the back of his neck, huffing in disappointment. The day was already halfway gone and he hadn’t caught anything. He just couldn’t figure out what went wrong. Sure, the winds were worse today than normal, but fish don’t care about wind.
He groaned and kicked a rock in his path. There had to be a better way to catch a haul to live off of. He was trying so hard to move out of his parents’ house and make a home for himself. His thoughts immediately turned to Malea’s face and he felt a jolt of nerves jump through his body. He knew what he wanted. He was making a home for the both of them.
It was almost as if fate wanted them to be together because when he looked up, he could see Malea’s telltale skirts billowing in the breeze. A grin broke across his face and he waved his arms over his head, forgetting he was holding a pole still.

Malea 2
Malea turned her head at the movement and sighed in relief. There he was. ”Kalpana! What are you doing out fishing?” She asked mournfully. Maybe the signs weren’t as clear as she thought they had been. ”We need to get inside, there’s a storm coming.” She closed the gap between herself and Kalpana and grabbed a hold of his arm in hers, pulling the larger menehune with her into the house.
”This is going to be a bad one. I can feel it,” She almost whispered it out, her voice lingering in the air between them in the dark home.

Kalpana 2
Kalpana felt fire where Malea grabbed him, her body so close to hers it physically hurt him. He felt his face drop at her news. ”What do you mean?” A storm? Well now… he guessed that made some sense in hindsight. The fish, the winds, the feeling of breathing water even on land. ”Yeah, that tracks.” He muttered out loud.
He let Malea drag her inside of his house and looked to Malea with concern. ”If it’s going to be that bad shouldn’t we prepare?” He offered. He looked at the walls of the home. They were sturdy, but were they storm-of-the-year sturdy? The was Malea was talking about it, he felt like there were some things lacking in the details. Did they even have enough food and water to ride out a storm?

Malea 3
Malea opened her mouth to speak when she heard the first crack of thunder. ”I don’t think we’ll have time now.” She moved to the dining table and held out a finger to the unlit candle in the room. With a quiet whisper she willed it to light. ”Kalpana, where are your parents?” She asked the man, her mind racing to the worst theories.

Kalpana 3
”THey’re out fishing… still…” He trailed off at the end. ”I’m sure they’ll be fine. They’re smarter than me. They’ve been doing this their whole lives.” He reassured Malea. He could see the worry on her face.
He moved closer to her, already used to her way with magic, and reached out to put a hand on each of her shoulders, steadying her. ”Take a breath, relax. We’ll be fine. They’ll be fine.” He leaned in and kissed her forehead, trying to reassure her.

Malea 4
Malea felt the touch of hands on her and the kiss of lips on her forehead and felt the breath leave her body. Kalpana was so close. She felt like she was on fire. She leaned into him and let the heat take over her body. She sighed in response and wrapped her arms around his waist. ”You’re probably right. They would know. They will be safe.” She willed it to be true.
She looked up to Kalpana and stood as straight as she could, reaching up to kiss his lips. She still felt like she couldn’t get used to that. They had been seeing each other properly for months now, but each time it still felt like a first kiss.

Kalpana 4
Kalpana melted into Malea, letting the heat of their bodies calm their nerves. His arms were strong and solid against her tiny waist and he lifted her off of the floor for good measure.
Pulling her onto his lap in a chair next to them, he relaxed his grip and let her sit in his lap. He could hear the winds whipping outside and picking up quickly. ”What do you think it is? A hurricane?” He asked Malea. There was no way to know for sure, but the rain was already pounding against the roof and he could see the windows were nearly grayed out with movement.

Malea 5
”You might be right.” She leaned against him, watching the windows with him before pulling away and turning to face him. ”If it is, it will take a while.” She told Kalpana. She didn’t know where she was going with that statement. Should they start putting supplies together? Maybe she should cast some spells to replenish water? She wasn’t so sure. Maybe she meant it in her heart. Maybe she was hoping that it would take a while so she wouldn’t have to leave Kalpana.
”Kalpana… I don’t want to be without you.” She whispered seriously to him.

Kalpana 5
Kalpana felt his heart leap into his throat with Malea’s words. ”Me neither.” He whispered into her ear. He suddenly felt static throughout his body. If there was anything he knew it was that he needed her, and he needed her right now.
Kalpana scooped Malea up into his arms, cradling her there and pulled her away from the kitchen and into his room. ”Live with me. Let’s make a home together.” He lowered her onto the bed and slowly kissed her lips as he hovered over her. His face lowered, hissing her neck, her chest, shoulders, anywhere he could reach. He let his feeling cloud his mind and get sucked into the moment.

Malea 6
Malea’s breath caught and hitched in her throat as Kalpana brought her to his room. He whispered all the things she wanted to hear into her ear and she sighed. She wanted to be with him forever. ”Absolutely.” Her breathy words found his ear and she dropped her head back with his kissing. His lips felt like electricity through her body. Everywhere he touched sparked every nerve and left her wanting so much more.

Kalpana 6
Kalpana heard the confirmation and made a guttural sound before pulling at the layers of her clothing. Why was she wearing so much today? He groaned internally, frustrated with the additional steps to getting to what he needed so desperately right now.
The winds were near howling at that point, the only sounds they could hear were the sounds of the storm outside.

Malea 7
Malea let Kalpana do with her what he wanted, her body so desperate to respond in the same. He took the lead and took control and she felt so absolutely deeply drowned in him. She felt like she needed to come up for air but couldn’t move against Kalpana. She let herself be swallowed up whole and closed her eyes, willing the moment to keep going.
It was going to be a long night, and there were things to worry about later, once the storm passed. But for now… for now she was wholly given to Kalpana.

Kalpana 7
The storm shouted at them through the walls of the house, picking up and getting worse. Just like Malea had said. But they made it. They were safe. And the next day they would be worrying about other things.
The candle sat in a puddle of wax on the table, the winds already starting to get quieter and move away from the two menehune. Kalpana sighed, his sweat cooling him off in the humid air. They would be together forever, for better or worse, he determined. He hoped Malea wanted plenty of kids, because that was the next step for Kalpana. A large family to call his own. He closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep, letting the winds lull him to the next day.
