An Honest Accident

Solo or RP Format
Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7

Sometimes, accidents happen. Your character has found themself in a situation where an honest accident has resulted in an item being broken. Possibly your own, or you may have broken someone else's. Was it an item at a shop, or a priceless artifact? How does your character react to the honest mistake?

Oh he'd really done it now. He had screwed up so bad and Alek was going to be so mad at him. Kai was just messing around while Alek was busy gathering some supplies in town, and so Kai had looked over Alek's little vials he kept with him usually. The little vials of medicine looked neat, and while he was sniffing it he hadn't noticed the dip in the floor in their inn room. Next thing Kai knew the vial had flown from his hand, his stumbling sending it into the air before it crashed back down onto the floor and shattered. The liquid spread across the floor, shards of glass scattering about.

"Oh no, oh no," he scrambled on his hands and knees, trying to sweep up the glass with his hands even as the pieces bit into his skin. "Please don't be mad."

Alek wasn't trying to be quiet, but he'd had a particularly successful supply run and his self-consciousness was shockingly low at the moment. He didn't shuffle or stumble into the room like he normally might have, which gave him more than enough time to observe Kai's odd behavior.

"What happened? Don't—you're hurt."

He hurried over and took Kai's hands in his, failing to notice the broken vial as he turned them palm up.

Kai panicked as Alek caught him, looking away guiltily at the vial still shattered across the floor. His hands stung and he was sure he looked a disheveled mess. Not at all handsome or put together. He really didn't want Alek to see him like this when he'd ruined it.

"I uh....I tripped. And I was looking at one of your vials. I'm really sorry. I wasn't trying to break it really. It just flew out of my hand," Kai explained, biting his lip as he glanced up at him finally.

He did look down at the floor then, and once he saw which vial Kai had dropped, Alek couldn't help the ghost of a smile from flitting across his face.

"I'm sorry. I promise I'm not laughing. It's just... if you had rubbed your hands around the glass instead of through it, things might have turned out less painfully." He let Kai go, that feeling of impropriety washing over him again. "It was a healing potion I was working on. But it's not important. I can pick it up. And I should be able to heal your cuts, if you don't mind."

Kai frowned as his hands were let go, pitiful tears pricking at his eyes as a soft sniffle escaped him. "Maybe you're right, but I panicked. And you worked so hard on it and I missed it up," the boy continued to whine, looking very uncool and not at all pretty in this moment.

Kai took a deep breath to calm himself down, instead focusing on what Alek was saying to him. He gave a little nod at him when healing his cuts was brought up, anxiously holding his palms up once more. "You have to hurry else I will never be able to use these beautiful hands of mine again." Was he being a bit dramatic? Maybe, but the cuts looked bad to him.

"Everything will be right again in a minute." Alek loved the small problems he could solve with his studies, and he focused on the contented, grounded feeling he had whenever he readied himself to heal. "And your hands will be beautiful either way," he said, mostly to himself.

He placed his hands on top of Kai's instead of holding them, took in a slow breath, and kind of pushed his magic into the other's palms. There was some warmth and maybe a bit of an itch, then he lifted his hands again, wiping at a little of the blood that remained.

"Perfect." He was still looking at the space between them.

The relief was obvious on Kai's face as Alek worked his magic, his bubbling nerves settling down as the soothing energy filtered into his hands. A soft sigh of relief spilled from him, smile perking up at Alek's words. "You think so? If you say so then it has to be true."

"Alek I -" Kai was generally not one to fumble with his words, but the closeness made his ears warm and his chest feel tight. His eyes lingered on his face for a bit longer than probably acceptable before he spoke. "Thank you."

"Anytime." He looked up at Kai, but when he saw the other looking back, Alek dropped his gaze again, willing the embarrassment away. "Not that I want you hurting yourself just so I can heal you, obviously. And you shouldn't feel like you can't touch my things or mess them up. You're more important than anything of mine you could break."

He took a deep breath and stood taller, realizing that he hadn't put his most recent purchases away in the kerfuffle. "Was there anything that looked like a particularly fun vial? I can show you how to make something, if you'd like?" He pulled a bunch of bright orange tubers out of his satchel, placing them on a table and picking up a towel to wipe up the spilled potion.

Kai nodded along with every word Alek said, feeling a swell of pride? Excitement? That Alek thought he was more important than his stuff. While they had been traveling a time together, Kai was always worried that he was the burden to the older boy. He had been the one to accost him to be his guide after all, and now he was following him around and demanding where they go. "If hurting myself gets your hands on me more I may have to," Kai teased, trying to clear the awkward air around the two of them.

He moved to peek at the things Alek was putting away, fingers bumping against one of the tubers curiously. "Everything looks fun if I'm being honest. Pale'iko is very different from all I've seen with you, including your potions. I just want to know everything about what you do. What you like."

If Kai had been aiming to make things less awkward, he hadn't quite managed it. Alek's cheeks took on a fierce purple hue quite suddenly, and he ducked his head, trusting his hair to hide them. He practically fell onto his knees, rounding up the worst of the spill as he gathered his thoughts and tried to shove them away from the suggestive.

"Y... yes, I imagine so. Well, um, this one in particular wasn't anything that hadn't already been done better with other ingredients. I just like to try approaching things from different angles. Like... what if the more common potion ingredients were afflicted by an unseasonable freeze? People would be grateful to have another way to brew them." He cleared his throat, remaining huddled on the ground even though the glass shards were gone. "As far as what I like, you already know. Healing and music." And you. "I never really had any other hobbies."

Kai knelt down next to Alek when he noticed him not moving from his spot, attempting to inspect whatever possible glass could be remaining. He smiled at Alek's explanation, resisting the urge he had to tilt his chin up and instead continued to listen. "You're really smart, and people will be lucky to learn from you. Have you ever considered taking an apprentice? Or teaching somewhere that your skill is needed. I think with your ideas you would do really well, Alek."

Kai hummed a little as he considered his next action, eventually deciding it was worth it and dipping down to place a kiss atop Alek's head. "Even the little things I want to know. Like your favorite season, or if you have family. Things like that. If you'll let me."

"Hm. I don't know. I'm used to being an apprentice, not having one. And I'm enjoying traveling a lot right now, but I'll, um, I'll think about it."

Even though the kiss might have technically been considered more forward than Kai's banter by some, it felt infinitely more innocent to Alek. It helped him gather himself, and he pushed to his feet once he had, placing the towel out of reach to safely clean up later.

"Yes, of course. And I'd like to know those things about you as well." He raised his hand toward Kai's forearm, softly letting it drop before he could touch the Kahikinan. "I prescribe some, uh, shopping. And talking. We could go for a walk and ask each other questions? If you're not planning to do anything else?" It wasn't a date if there was no food involved, right?

Kai perked up more at Alek's suggestion, eager to do both of the offered things. The boy loved to shop, and of course any reason to talk more with Alek was a great bonus as well. He looked down at his hands again, still amazed by the quick work had done. While breaking the vial had been a bad time for him, it seemed as if he still won out by doing it anyway. Perhaps he was just lucky like that.

"The only thing I plan on doing is you, uh I mean being near you," Kai fumbled out, certainly not intending for his words to come out in such a way. "I yes - shopping and talking we should do that I would like that. No chance of breaking things either if I'm careful."

Alek pressed his lips together, biting back a wave of amusement. He felt his cheeks heat again, but he didn't fight to hide it this time. Mostly.

"That sounds lovely," he replied, voice tinged with a laugh. "As long as you don't break anyone else's things, we should be fine." Alek started toward the door, turning back before he opened it. After a brief hesitation, he held out his hand for Kai to take, if he wished.
