User ImageName: Garber Abel Bell

Nickname: Gabe

Gender/Pronoun: he/him

Age: 35

Birthday: July 15th, 1988 @ 12:30pm

Sign: Cancer

Gemstone: emerald

Blood Type: A+

Fav. Food: couscous

Hated Food: sauerkraut

School/Occupation: Garber works for his father as an accountant at the firm his father co-owns with Donovan Paige

Hobbies:

Cooking -- Garber loves to be in the kitchen cooking, baking, whatever. He cooks a wide range of dishes, but he does tend to favour the same savory and sweet dishes he likes to eat. He's always willing to experiment with new recipes and, during holiday dinners, he always ends up helping Luke with the cooking. In fact, he's been helping his dad since he was little, with age-appropriate tasks keeping his hands busy. It's a point of pride for him that his sons have grown up to not be picky eaters at all. He doesn't enter his cooking in competition or anything, but he's always open to trading recipes and tips with other people. Birthday cakes are always made from scratch.

Running -- He took it up as a way to de-stress when finding himself suddenly the father of twins while still in college, and it later served him well in the same capacity when he found himself the single father of twins with a young career. He's not at all competitive, nor is he necessarily particularly fast beyond what a long stride grants him. He runs purely for the enjoyment of it and the chance it grants him to clear his head. On occasion, he'll join Richard and Ignacio on their runs, if their schedules happen to line up, or anyone else that wants some company in the evening.

Flash Games -- Bejeweled and those balloon-popping games are his favorite, but in general if it it involves vector graphics, mindlessness, and repetitive music, he's in. He does play more serious games like Sudoku, but generally he goes for the bright colors. He picked these up in high school, as ways to kill time after finishing reports or waiting for the bus, or just anything, really, and only got into them more in college as they were readily available on the computers. He continues them now as they're readily available on his phone and tablet and are excellent ways to de-stress the brain on lunch or after he gets home. He doesn't devote hours and hours, but he does have a very high score in 3-D pinball.

Tabletop Gaming -- Oh how he loves the feel of paper and dice. D20 or not, he doesn't care. While he prefers games like D&D or Shadowrun, or even custom-made games along those lines, he'll usually play anything as long as it's got a good group of people and a solid idea. He's been playing since middle school and had a core group of people he usually gamed with, until they all graduated high school and split up into different colleges. The ones that stayed local kept gaming through college, but afterward split up to chase career opportunities. He still has a few friends that he gets together with when he can, but it's not as frequent as it used to be. But he still loves it and has even started turning towards online campaigns.

Virtues:

Warm -- Garber freely displays his openness and friendliness towards other people that goes beyond a cordial 'how's it going?'. He wants to know how it's going, if there's anything happening, if there's a way he can make someone feel at ease. He smiles a lot, and is an excellent listener. Friends and family in need of someone they can lean on find it in him, and he'll make them coffee or something if they need it. He does set boundaries, especially professionally and with strangers, but he's more likely than not to take the time if he has it to hear someone out or do what he can for them. He easily and eagerly gives of his time, money, and effort to help the people around him.

Honorable -- Doing 'the right thing' is something Garber has always tried to live by. No cheating, no stealing, no sabotage. No hitting someone while they're down and always give someone a chance at a fair fight. He strives to make sure things are as level as possible, and he is incredibly dependable. Even when slipping a little might get him something he wants, or make his life easier, he holds back. This also extends to making sure the people around him are done right by. Garber can always be counted on to take the high road. Can this be manipulated? Of course. But he would rather find out one person out of ten was manipulating him than to not help the other nine when he could have.

Justice-minded -- He was an activist in college, and he does what he can nowadays. He's a regular on GoFundMe and Change.org. If things aren't right, he wants to make them so as long as--and to the extent--he believes it to be in his power. A proud prison abolitionist, he tends to favour the little guy, the underdog, and the causes he supports are typically in the vein of restorative justice. Insofar as it doesn't go against his sense of honor, Garber tends to believe more in the spirit of the law than the letter of it. So far, he hasn't gotten into any serious legal trouble over this. He does have a couple of court appearances under his belt, however, for sticking up for someone getting beat down on or for intervening on the behalf of someone he didn't feel the police were treating fairly.

Flaws:

Sensitive -- While he can usually brush off someone random trying to get under his skin, he can be vulnerable to slights or events that highlight any faults of his--real or perceived--and this leads to him withdrawing emotionally. The right combination of events can make him doubt himself. In fact, events such as his wife's infidelity and the subsequent failing of his marriage have shaken his confidence for quite a good many years. His stubbornness can keep him going sometimes, but when that, too, eventually fails, Garber will only internalize this as a new failure against his ability to see things through. His perspective is oft distorted, and it can make him trying for the impatient to deal with. He is in therapy for this, fortunately.

Stubborn -- While it can sometimes certainly appear to be patient, quiet, perseverance, make no mistake--he sticks to things like a burr out of sheer unwillingness to give up. He's gotten into arguments for refusing to back down on an issue he's taken up, even when presented with conflicting information. He's burnt himself out by taking on impossible deadlines, demanding tasks, and being unwilling to ask for help for any of it. He grows frustrated with himself over real or perceived failures, and this causes him to redouble his efforts in a sort of endless circle. This isn't to say he refuses to change--he just won't do it when pressed and will absolutely double down in the meantime. He needs to work on things on his own time.

Willful -- Garber doesn't necessarily have a problem with authority. But his sense of honor doesn't always play by the established rules. If he's given instructions he disagrees with, he will disobey the instructions in a heartbeat and never look back. He's been cited by police before for somewhat less minor things like the time he got into an argument at the supermarket with someone who'd been belligerent with the staff, and it nearly came to blows. He's honest when this happens and takes responsibility for his decisions and the punishment that goes with it. This is not something he's reckless with. He'd be unemployed, homeless, and/or in jail if he gave into every impulse that crossed his mind, and he's got two kids to take care of. But he's no stranger to inconveniencing other people to get to what he believes is the most equitable solution to a problem.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Eyes: Almond-shaped and dark blue

Hair: Cinnamon-red, shoulder-length and impossibly curly. Sometimes tied back just to get it out of his face.

Face: High cheekbones and an expressive mouth

Skin Tone: Dark olive skin

Body Type:
Very tall (6'7") and leggy with shoulders on the narrow side of average. Has some 'dad bod' weight on him, but is lanky like all the Bell men seem to be

Clothes: Garber dresses in slacks and t-shirts for most occasions, with polos being worn for work and jeans being worn for yardwork.
