Ash hummed to herself as she trotted along on delicate little silver paws, her tail curling like a question mark above her back. She turned down the side street that ran before Destiny Tower and followed it, green eyes bright with purpose.

Today was a build day! Technically, nearly every day was a build day, but today was special, of course. She had particular plans for today and she was just itching to get started on them! Get elbows deep in the guts of her current project and lose herself for hours in it. The way that stimulated her mind was just too good... and as a bonus, occupying her mind with a project kept her thoughts off the nebulous grey area in her mind where memories should be... or the fact that she was avoiding her duties as a Guardian Cat. It wasn't like there weren't dozens of other cats to fulfill those duties... she didn't have to be one of them!

The entrace was just over there... but as she turned towards, she caught a glimpse of another shape pacing around the base of the tower. Curious, and cautious, Ash slunk to the side of the building and crept closer, small ears perked forward. Was someone trying to get into HQ? That someone had better not be a chaos cat, or they were going to have an unpleasant time!

“Awww come on,” The cat muttered as he paced. He had spotted another guardian cat and followed them here, vaguely remembering the building, but the other cat disappeared before the large savannah could figure out how to get inside. Something about the place was just niggling his brain. He had been here before! He knew he had… just didn’t remember when, or how to get in.

It was chilly, even though it was spring the nights were still cold, and even with fur Mel was cold. He was tired, hungry, dirty, and cold. He had followed the cat in the hopes of at least getting a warm spot to sleep. Not having a senshi to live with really did put a crimp in his lifestyle. “I just want to scribble out my idea and sleep,” He practically winned into the darkness. “Why won’t you let me in? I have a great idea! I’m willing to share! Just let me in!”

The other cat, by the looks of him as she got closer, was a rather large male. Definitely trying to get into HQ... but without the tag of chaos she had been expecting. Her ears perked up and her tail lifted into a friendly pose as Ash broke from her hiding place and trotted towards the stranger.

"What are you doing, Darling?" She called as she came closer, her smooth head tilted. Little pointed ears trained on the figure as she took the opportunity to study him more closely. Boldly patterned... not someone she remembered meeting before, though that didn't mean much.

"I don't know if we've met before. I'm Ash." The Mauvian said as she stopped, tucked her paws neatly under her, and sat on the pavement. The length of her tail stretched out behind her, the tip flicking from side to side in her interest. She touched her visor with a paw and it lit up, scrolling with text on the inside where she could see it. A glowing keyboard appeared hovering before her and she tapped at it with dainty paws, calling up the database. "You're not a new cat, are you? I know we awaken sort of sporadically..."

Mel stopped his whining when another cat approached him, at this he turned to see the smaller feline and couldn’t help but c**k his head in confusion. “I’m not Darling. I’m Mel but I guess I could answer to Darling. I’ve answered a lot of things.” He might have actually started to go off on a tangent when the other cat, Ash, introduced herself and then did a really neat thing with a glowing keyboard and everything.

“Oh wow! That's cool! It's like virtual reality but in real life!” The savannah cat craned his neck trying to get a better view of what she was doing and how she was doing it. “I’m not new, I’ve been in the city for a while… although I did wake up from a nap a few hours ago. It was a good nap. How are you doing that?” And Mel was off on one of his rambles, but oddly enough he was fairly focused. For him that is. “Well there was some time when I wasn’t in the city but that was an accident. It's not my fault my napping spot was in a moving truck. Or that they went miles and miles away. It took forever to get back. I guess I could have stayed where I landed but they didn’t have any good sushi places. It was a shame. But I did get to live with this little old lady for a bit. Deaf as a post but so nice.” His chipper run on information dump died out when he added, “But she passed away.” He had liked that lady. It was a shame that she had died. Even worse were the grandkids who liked to pull his tail. When it became clear he would be stuck with those people he skedaddled right on out of there. Through sheer luck he ended back up in Destiny City some time ago.

"Oh! Don't mind me... its just a sweet little nickname I tend to give people." The silver cat said as she waved a delicate little paw. What an odd one... most people seemed to understand the little endearment, but the world was full of all types, really.

Ash leaned back as Mel took interest in her keyboard, pushing himself into her space. The keyboard went with her and she kept a feline smile on her face to hide how distinctly uncomfortable that invasion made her. Mel... that at least pulled up an entry in the database. Definitely not a new cat then... but if he'd been out of town, like his long winded explanation claimed, then it made sense that she hadn't run into him before. Not that she ran into much in the way of other people these days, laying low and working on her own little projects. She snapped the keyboard away with a flick of her paw and settled back onto all fours. She really did need to get out more. The whole world was passing by and she was missing it...

"Were you trying to get in Head quarters?" She said quickly, pushing those thoughts aside. Jumping to her paws and darting around him with a flick of her slim tail, Ash headed for the door and looked up at it, letting the hidden sensor read the star on her forehead that marked her as one of the Order Mauvians. Something clicked and the wall separated, moving aside to expose a cat-sized stair case down into the building.

"Um.. its this way, if you'd like some help with it." Ash said back over her shoulder.

“Ah, kind of like some of my nicknames. Makes sense.” Mel absently responded, much more curious as to what the smaller guardian cat was doing then some strange name she called him. It wasn’t like he hadn’t been called all kinds of things before so it ultimately didn’t bother him at all. His not so secret snooping was put to an abrupt end when Ash flicked the computer thing away with her paw and headed for the door of the building. “I mean, yeah but that's just the human-” He cut off when the guardian did something and the wall moved.

“Wow! How did you do that!?!?” He bounded over and just stared in amazement at the cat sized entrance and the stairs that led down. He was so entranced he nearly missed his chance, as soon as the ‘door’ started to make a noise his fur stood on end and he darted inside right before it closed behind him. With no other option he chased after Ash, nearly running into her once they reached the bottom of the stairwell. “I wonder if my room is still here,” He contemplated even as he gaped at everything around him. “It was so long ago and there were these robots and everything. It was cool fighting and we all got little rooms all to ourselves but well, I never could figure my way back here. I could have sworn it was a left at the pizza place and a right at the sushi spot but I guess its two rights at the Subway and a left at the fancy Italian restaurant. Is there any food here? I could really go for some pizza right now, or fish. Fish is also good. Fish is always good.”

The large guardian started to explore, trying to sniff out any food that might be hiding. “Oh that reminds me. I’ve got this really great idea! It's like one of those bags that pizza delivery guys use to keep the pizzas warm but for senshi. And not a bag. Or for pizza. I guess someone could use it for pizza but really why would you? Cold pizza is just as good as warm pizza. Not the same, but it still has its own merits.”

"The door has a sensor attuned to your forehead star, so just walk up to the right spot in the wall and it should open for you." Ash said as she trotted down the stairs before him, trying not to let the way he'd rushed inside ruffle her. Now that she was some where familiar she felt her confidence returning, bolstered by the surety that nothing could hurt them down here. Only Mauvians allowed, after all.

"I'm sure your room is still here. They don't move, after all, and there are enough of them I'm sure no one has had any need to... reassigned your room to someone else, or something like that." Ash spared a glance back over her shoulder, her tail lifted to curl straight up behind her. "You were here when we broke down that wall? I was there too! Small world, I guess. Its a shame you couldn't find your way back. Maybe you should put a pin your map? Then you'd never lose it. You do have a communicator or phone of your own, don't you?"

It was only after she said it that she started to suspect he probably didn't... Poor thing seemed scattered enough not to be knowledgeable of the latest and greatest technology the Mauvians had on offer.

"You had an idea for an insulated bag....?" She said, her voice rising at the end in a prompt for him to go on. Why reinvent something that already existed? Surely it wasn't just to keep food warm or cold...

“Yeah! There were these robot dogs, or at least I think they were dogs and they went zap and bang and zoom.” He bounced around, trying to describe the fight as best as he remembered it, even as he stuck his nose into everything he could. “I like my room but I never did get a chance to do anything in it. Not that I have any money or anything so I guess it will remain bare. But that is ok since I guess the whole city is my home now. I can sleep pretty much anywhere and there are a lot of nice people who are willing to feed me. If not, there is a really nice Italian place downtown that throws out a lot of fresh pasta. I don’t get chased from there very often. Unlike this one sushi place. That chef is super protective of his leftovers I guess since he does his best to get all of the cats that lurk in the alley in the back of his place to scatter. He also smells like feet so I really don’t like him.”

Mel continued to ramble, not realizing the least that he might be over sharing or boring Ash. But he at least turned to face the smaller cat when she mentioned his idea. “No silly! Not a bag! Like a force field or something. Basically tweaking the magical circuits for either knight’s rings and/or senshi phones to include a personal temperature regulator. You know… like letting the guys who have too many layers, stay cool in the summer and those that really should be wearing a scarf be warm in the winter?” Honestly such a thought from this particular guardian was very surprising but stranger things have happened in the city.

Maybe….

“Wait! I have a communicator or a phone? REALLY?”

Probably not, really.

Oh... there he went again. Ash followed along for a little bit before she lost interest and let the words just kind of flow over her. 'In one ear, out the other' was how the saying went, wasn't it? Nothing he said really seemed important, since she didn't care to eat out of dumpsters and had people willing to feed her, if she didn't provide for herself. The joys of having hands and being able to hack computer systems... she could order delivery whenever she pleased.

Something he said did eventually catch her attention again and she stopped in her walk to the consoles. Head tilted, Ash considered the idea with a bit of surprise for how clever it actually was. There wasn't anything that was already doing that job, and it would actually be really useful.

"That's... actually a really good idea." She said with genuine warmth. "Are you going to build something like that to give out to senshi? You should put the blueprints on the network so other Mauvians can build and distribute them too. They'd be really useful, I think."

And of course he didn't have a phone. Delight turned to inner eye-rolling and Ash sighed, spinning in place to make a little bit of something pop out of subspace and fall between them. Rounded with a sort of hook on the back, it was the most basic of the communicators that Snowball had developed for general use. Ash her used her own version, since she'd already had it, but she appreciated that there were plans that others could follow if they wanted something as useful as a communication device.

"Here. I heard that Snowball came up with these and the design is available to anyone who wants it. You can have this one if you'd like. It acts like a senshi phone, but its voice activated for Mauvians who can't access their bipedal forms yet. You can customize it, if you like." She said, batting the com over to Mel.

“I’m not really sure. It just kind of came to me.” Mel shrugged as only a cat could before his eyes brightened when Ash produced a little communicator from her sub space. As much as he wanted to bombard her with questions on how she did that, he was still a bit fuzzy on that, he was much more interested in the communicator. Especially since it gave him a little spark of thought.

“This is fantastic!” He went over and gave it a poke with his paw before his brain bounced back to his earlier idea. “I don’t suppose you have a… um… thing that shows how the coms are made do you? I wonder if it's possible to make a whole personal AC/DC,” He paused a second and corrected himself, “AC and heating…. That was a band I think, an app for the phones. If it can then it could absolutely be pushed out like one of the updates that Apple forces on people. But this time it would be nicer. I mean they have an app for traveling to the moon right? Can’t we just tweak the parameters on that so it's like a forcefield but just for temp rather than travel?” Mel had no clue if his idea was even viable but Ash seemed to know what she was doing. He would bet his whole dinner on her being able to figure it out!

Ash's frown deepened the more he talked, confusion settling into her small, round face.

AC/DC? Apple's forced updates? Teleporting just being... tweaked for a forcefield? Stopping where she was, Ash sat back on her haunches and waved both paws before her, warding off Mel's strange suggestions.

"That's... not how teleporting works. Its like..." She didn't even know what to compare it to that he'd actually understand. "You'd have to change so much of that app to make it do what you want, that you might as well just start from scratch and build it the way you want it to be. It would save you a lot of time and bug fixes, trust me."

Ash sighed as she moved to her paws again and trotted off towards the consoles along the walls, jumping upwards into one of the comfortable, cat-shaped chairs. A few pushes of buttons, and the schematics for the communicators was up on one of the console's big screens.

"These are the plans for the communicators. Mauvian's have the ability to materialize some small objects, so you should be able to study this and then just... make one. I'm afraid I can't get more specific than that. Its always just been... second nature to me. Instinct." The silver cat said as she sat back, curling her tail around herself. "The app you want to make doesn't sound too hard... There are plans for things like glamours that might give you a starting spot if you're really unsure of how to do it. Or, I guess..."

She winced, then shrugged. "I guess I could help you with it, if you need the help."

It really would be a useful app. And her other projects weren't so dire that she couldn't set them aside for a little while. And... it would be sort of a way to make up for not being as active as she should have been, as a Guardian. A small salve to soothe her conscience.

Fin? or one more post?

Mel’s tail dropped when Ash shot down his plan on just modifying the existing code but even that little dip in his cheery personality was quickly erased when the other guardian cat did something on the computer and pulled up the blueprints of the communicators. “Oh wow!” The large cat breathed quietly, in awe at the complex designs.

“You will? That's great!” Mel looked over at Ash when she offered to help. He was really quite happy. Ash definitely seemed to know what she was doing, unlike Mel. “Ok, so what about this…” He didn’t even wait for Ash to possibly change her mind, or even regret her decision. Oh, no. Mel just dove right in, tossing out ideas left and right.

It seemed like it was going to be a long night. A productive one… but a long one.
