He had come all the way from his family to this place in Matori, he had heard about a few very good blacksmiths here and decided to try and find them to discuss shop. His daughter was healed from her sickness for the most part and this allowed him some travel time. They had been away from home long enough, out of communication with their son as there had been an emergency and now a long time later they had no idea where their wayward son had gone off too. Ai held out hope that he was okay, there was no sign of struggle or anything at the house when they had returned. They had cried over his loss, no letter, no note no nothing.
Deep in his heart he knew that his son was okay, there was no possibilty of it being otherwise. He needed his son to be okay. It was something you didn't realize until you became a parent, the level of worry that came with bringing beings into this world.

He was out at the market, gathering supplies, none of the kids had been available to go and Thea had been busy doing Thea things, so what was a dad to do but go buy the grub!
It was a long walk with the little wagon and the sky was brooding up something nasty judging from the darkness of the clouds. His skin prickled, it sometimes did that when there was a predator around..or when Thea was sneaking around behind him. She was good but also his mate so he sort of got a good bead on her.
"Thea?" He asked. No reply. Nothing out here but wind and soon to be rain. He walked a bit faster, perhaps it would abstain itself and only drizzle lightly but he remembered what time of year it was, almost better to be in Oba at the moment. He sighed, that was another long walk but he greatly enjoyed the blend of both of their cultures.

He thought he would stop at the market and get some fresh veggies for extra snacks at the Inn. He always liked to have a store of good food around that didn't spoil fast. He had a large frame to fuel and it was hard to keep it this perfectly fit too, for himself for the forge, for his wife. He smiled at that thought.
Mayhap one day soon they could have more children. He just wasn't sure how to ask yet. All was good now, so long as they eventually found their wayward son.
He heard thunder rumble at a distance and looked up at the sky. He hated being so tall on thundery days, it was unnerving. Lightning was not something he was wont to experience. Especially on the feelers, he shuddered at the thought. He would be fried for a long time should that happen. He poked around at the vegetables as the rain started the stand was at the edge of one of the walk entrances.

Ah, finally the market was in sight and just in time too as the sky had just opened up the cloud flood gates. He was instantly excessively wet. He had watched the wall of water coming and had been unable to do anything except sigh. He dragged the cart along behind him into the market and dove under the closest overhang he could find. Looking up he was pleased to see that he had invaded the produce stand, one of the bigger ones too. He dropped the wagon handle for the list that Thea had provided him.
"Where is it?" He hissed, feelers twitching. "Somewhere in here, ah!" He had found it.
"Lettuce," He flung into the cart a nice looking head followed by two more slightly smaller ones. They ate alot of salad though nearly all of them complained. Zasha was the only one to like it. He was happy she was visiting home. He had just hoped that Aire had done his duty but Zasha remained trim and fit. Rats. No new grandkids yet.
"Watermelons, with the black skin, red insides..."

He looked up as a few people ran under cover. It was well and truly pouring now. Thick sheets of water soared over the edges. A few of the people seeking shelter were Matorian, a couple and their toddler with the teal, blue or green hair that was common among the pure bloods.
Turning to inspect the last visitor, he froze. There was no mistaking the height, antennae, right down to the bredth of the shoulders. The male approached his own lofty height but had put on a significant amount of muscle on since Ai had last seen him as a prentice. The male wore his skin and his Mother's eyes and hair. Turning, silver eyes locked onto his black ones. A short staring contest ensued, their expressions identical.
Even the other people under the canopy stopped to pay attention.
Silver eyes widened tot he size of saucers.
"Son." Ai'ian said, lacking any other words at that particular moment in time.

He had been frozen in place ever since his eyes had locked with the other male's. Dark eyes just a hair taller than he was. Familiar eyes in a familiar face.
"Dad?" He knew it was a dumb question the moment he uttered it and a small part of him wished that Thea had been there to swat at him. Alas she was not, and he was alone with the father he hadn't seen for more years than he cared to count.
A spell for sure. There was so much! They hugged immediately and being enfolded in his Father's warmth once again broke him. He started to sob like the little boy who had left hom to come back and fin that his parents and sister had vanished like so much etherial mist.
"I went looking for you - hic - after I came back, but you never came back. There was no trail to follow, the house was untouched, abandoned." He gasped. "Where were you?"

It felt almost like hugging a ghost except for the fact that his eldest child was built of solid muscle.
"Son are ye a blacksmith then, you followed my trade." His eyes tried to water but he fought (and failed), against the sting.
"As for where we went..your sister was very ill. We did not know exactly where you had goe, we heard of a far away healer that could help her and we made all haste. Had we not, we might have lost her. "HIs voice broke a little there. Sarasnata had looked so very fragile in the healer bed. He had felt more vulnerable than he had ever had in his life, not because he was in danger but because his daughter was.
"Speaking of which, are there any good bookstores around here? She loves to read she does, your sister. Oh they will both be so happy to know you are alive." He gasped on his own choked off sobs. Dimly he was aware that their father son display of affection had apparently drawn a crowd. Not that he cared. HIs family meant the world to him.

"I am a Blacksmith, tell me was it the outsized burly shoulders that gave you the hint?" He winked. Saving his sister's life was a good enough excuse for him.
That was a parents number one perogative. Still they could probably have gotten word to him somehow. Though even he had to admit that he moved around a lot and was at time shard to pin down despite the absolute hoard of children.
"You and mom had any more kids yet?"
It was a valid question, in the intervening years he had had..six? And he now had grandkids...multiple grandkids. He didn't think his Dad was prepared for all of that yet. He had given his old man quite a shock.
"You still look good, Mom must be pleased with that." Perhaps his immediate family had rubbed off on him more than he thought. It sounded like something Thea would say. He smiled at the thought.

"I think perhaps for further reflection we might need to seek more adequate shelter." His feet squelched in the newly formed mud below...yuck. They ended up making a run to an Inn, happily booking the last available room as the rain continued to pound outside. In fact from the deep black color and the lashing wind they might end up stuck here for a while.
Perfect, they woudl have plenty of time to catch up. He was actually very happy that the storm had struck when it had, otherwise he might have missed Rydan altogether and who knows how long it would have taken to find him.
"Ahh no." he waved the waitress offer of coffee away, his mug was still full and he had just mixed in the perfect amount of cocoa powder and a dollop of rich milk.
He looked at his son, both of them drying off with Inn towels. "And no we have not had more kids yet, but I hold out hope you will get another sibling eventually."

He blushed and tried not to think too hard about that.
"Nice Dad so I suppose I should tell you that you have six grandkids and four great grandkids." He gave a weak impression of jazz hands. "Surprise~" He coughed a laugh. "They area all great kids though, strong, healthy and saucy like their Mama. You will like Thea, Dad, she is very cool like Mom." I hate to say it but the apple doesn't fall far from the tree in this family.
And not with his son Iexa either. It ran in the family. "We have grandkids that look like Mom!
She will be so excited. Great grandkids for you I guess! You still don't look that old, must be the hearty alkidike genetics. Quite frankly I'm surprised non of the kids fell in love with a lady like that." It would fit right in with their bloodlines but perhaps the general love of shifters was more powerful. He smiled. " I guess Lynx went that route! Though his lady is also an alkidike hybrid come to think of it."

"By the gods boy you have been busy building an empire! I am impressed. I can't wait to meet them all! He also felt a bit faint but he wouldn't mention that to his son. It was just a bit of a shock to find so many new branches on their family tree. He shook his head somewhat astounded still. New life, and they had lost none with their quick actions previously. Sara was healed and finally had a bit of life of her own while she regained strength. It had been a long and slow process but by the gods they had endured. A part of him was happy that Rydan had never had to see his siter as weak and frail as she had been. It was better this way.
"When will you come home?" He couldn't resist the question. "We will be there this time I promise." He sort of held his breath while he awaited his son's answer. He hoped that the boy had actually forgiven them as it appeared. He hoped this wasn't a dream.

"Well eventually, not all the kids are at home but I am asure that most if not all will want to come and by force will all undoubtedly will convince me that it is a good idea if they do come. Though this storm is a decent enough delay." He looked out the window at the lashing storm and was grateful for it, for it ensuring that he met his father that day.
At least he had good company if he was to be stuck here. It was so good to see his father who looked so much like him. The kids tended to look like silvery mini Theas with bits of him tossed in for good measure.
"Rathian actually inherited your crystals but the pollen attack from the mature aishan trees already changed the color, quite a few of our kids were affected. Thea and I were untouched though and I see it didn't get to you either." His Dad looked just like he remembered but a little more aged of course, there were many years in the interim.

Just like his mom, the boy was a talker that was for sure. Oh how he had missed that babble. The years and the storm outside had been kind to his son. What more could he want?
"Now about the bookstore before I forget.."
They chatted amiably and even spent some quiet moments in contemplation and joyful company. It was a night like he hadn't had in forever. he even forgot what else ha came here to do. Actually finding his son had swept the rest of his minor cares away. He knew he was very fortunate.
"We really were gone a long time, I'm sorry for that. But i am so grateful to have my son back." His heart floweth over, the universe seemed to have finally righted itself. All hail the greater spring storm. He raised his lovely mug of ale for a toast,. He was already feeling warmer. It would be a good night even if they were not allowed to leave due to the wall of water outside.

"Ahh, yes, when this our blessed storm lets us out I will show you the best little bookshop. They are long term locals and they bring in books from Belrea too of all the exotic places. The books come over on airships, that is crazy."
He could fly, he had a very well trained adult kinfa. His very best friend. Well besides his wife. That was another very special bond.
"I'm sure when she is able that my sister would like to see the bookstore herself. We could easily arrange transport when she is feeling better."
He had a lot of explaining to do when he got home but this time was so precious with his Dad. He bid the big storm to stay for a day or two.
He still felt a bit like it was an out of body experience, it had been so very long, but he remembered his Dad's voice like it was yesterday and he had taken a family photo from the empty house so he had never forgot exactly what they looked like.
