He had been out camping with his son. Sadly with a tent. They were on a meat gathering mission and it had dragged on rather longer than he had thought. If he knew it would take this long he would have brought everyone for a camping night out. But at least he had Lyco with him, he wasn't alone. He loved the company of any of his children. And this one had needed a little extra love too. He was sensitive to his kids and he could tell that something was getting Lyco down. Perhaps he just needed time with his Dad. That seemed to work wonders on most kids.
"I'm sorry it is raining son, this wasn't meant to happen this way but alas I am a rider not a weather smith."
He missed his mate and the other kids, but he was also having a great time out here with Lyco. He loved the quiet of the woods. It was peaceful.

"Thats okay Dad, it is what nature intended and having stepped into nature we had to accept that this variable was possible." Besides the green things and the things that ate the green things needed the rain. Nature was a beautiful thing.
"I rather like storms anyway, its the vibe you know." He was happy to have some time one on one with his Dad, he would have to try to get some one on one time with Isaris too. Lyco liked his steady hand. He and Dad made a great team and he hoped that he too would make a great team one day with someone who was deserving of his love and time. He had some great role models but for now he was more concerned about his career.
"Is it hard to pick a path? I have always known what I wanted to do but I gather it is not the same for everyone..what made you chose to be a rider Dad?"
He knew it was a somewhat deep question but his father could go deep into stuff, Isaris too.

He nodded and was about to enter the tent to maybe get something started to eat even if with the rain it had to be cold when the wind gusted so hard that it ripped the tent quite a way, leaving their supplies just sitting there in the open.
"Well that settles that! Time to find an Inn that has walls that this awful storm cannot blow away." The secret to being a parent was to have multiple backup plans, although he was glad that the younger girls were not with him at this point. They required a bit more coddling than the older boys. He smirked, though their brothers always helped with that.
"Come on, grab as much as you can and pack the radaku the sooner we are packed the sooner we are out of here. I'm sure your father will be sad about that tent but I doubt we will ever find it now. I will have to replace it later." He sighed. At least Isaris was home safe too, poor Lyco, some hunting trip this turned out to be. "We will go hunting again never fear." Sighing he pulled the pack saddle off the home made rail and strapped it to Unduru who didn't mind the storm one little bit.

Well the storm had definitely taken a turn for the worst. He couldn't help but smile at the indignant rigidity of his Dad's back as he faced the now non existant tent. Well an Inn would be nice he hoped that there was one not too far away, it wasn't like they had camped on main street in any town after all, there would be less game.
"Thats alright Dad, besides we never get to eat Inn food can you imagine father's face if we asked to 'go out to eat'?" He snorted. They wouldn't dare, besides Isaris was the best cook in all of Jauhar. "I bet they use different spices!" He was a young male and thus quite food motivated and always, always hungry.
He packed his radaku as fast as he could and soon enough they were off and away albeit soaking wet and he couldn't really see all that well. It was hard enough to follow the tip of Unduru's jet black tail bobbing ahead of him in the driving rain. But Dad would lead them to the Inn. He always found a way, he always came through and he knew he could really rely on him. He loved his parents and they loved him back and gave him and his siblings the best care.

Eventually they saw the lights pouring from the windows of their destination. He breathed a sigh of relief. His son was older and more hearty than their daughters but he was still young and as a father he worried. As he always did, as Isaris always did too. It was what good parents did.
They got the critters stowed in a stall and he went to talk to the Innkeeper about a room for them. The man was round and jovial which put him somewhat at ease. He had heard not to trust a skinny innkeep, which he supposed kind of made sense in a weird way. Vallen tried not to look to far into these things but after close examination he didn't sense any bad vibes off this guy. Purchasing the room went easy enough and he rounded about to rejoin his son where he was waiting patiently at a table by the back wall. It was about half full in here but he was sure that more travellers caught in the gale would enter soon.

He looked up and smiled at his Dad. "All well?" Vallen seemed to take everything in stride but as Lyco got older he could tell when the older man was on edge. Just as he could tell when his other father was nervous. He supposed that raising a family was serious business..somehow. He was a lot less worried about their mess than Dad. Then again he really liked storms of all kinds and it always made him feel way more alive to be in them. He couldn't wait for the day when he could fiddle with them magically.
"Any news on hot food?" He was still soaked and a teenager, thus the mention of the all important fuel. He was solid and shorter than his brother, though he was well muscled from all the radaku tending. Lifting water was heavy work and they had a lot of fuzzy tennants to raise and look after at home. He loved the work though. BUT he loved food more. And from the smell of it the kitchen here was well loved.

Vallen smirked as thunder rolled through the sky above them. Well at least his son was okay, hungry boys were healthy boys. Besides he and his brother still had growing to do. He found endless fascination with watching them grow up, how their faces and voices changed over time, how much more mature they were now than they had been just a few years ago. He loved them more than his next breath. His daughters brought just as much joy. He was so glad that they traded off being dads. That way both got the buzz of genetic continuation and both got to watch traits of their partner appear in the children.
"I'm sure the waitress will head over in a moment, just keep that desperate look on your face." He grinned. "I too am hungry," he put on his own hungry puppy dog face.
Like magic it summoned a woman who had been distributing drinks among her clientel.

The shifter woman smiled brightly at the pair of them. "What can I get two bedraggled soggy boys today? Would you like to hear the specials?" She took out a note pad and quill. At his nod she continued onto her spiel about the menu.
"Today we have roast venison with potatoes and gravy as our main special, we also have Scorra egg souffle with a side of burnaise sauce." She rattled off a few of the more popular items.
Lyco considered and ordered the souffle and his Dad as Lyco suspected wanted the roast. Lyco wasn't sure he had ever tried souffle so that was why he didn't chose the roast which he usually would have done but they could always try each others easily enough. The waitress scritched their order down on the pad thanked them, brought them some water, well, brought him water and brought his Dad a beer. Lyco eyed it suspiciously, he had tried a sip once and he couldn't stand it.

Now that all was going well he was highly relaxed and even crossed his ankles. This was turning out all right, everyone safe and a beer in hand. Win. Hot food coming their way and a soft ish padded mattress to sleep on for the night, they even each got their own bed.
He swirled his drink pensively and watched the crowd as the waitress took their order to the kitchen. No one suspicious. He refocused on his son.
"Heck of a lot better than sleeping in a puddle I am sure." He smiled at his boy. "You did great today, I'm proud of you." He would feed the kid well and that was that. He was still growing after all. Lyco was more stocky than his brother and lighter framed. Must be from Briska's side of the family.
Vallen was the tall one, where Isaris was stout. It was kind of cute how the patterns went even though Lyco was Vallen's kid and not Isaris'. He wondered how the two girls would turn out and if one would be tall like him or if both would be stocky like their Dad.

"I agree." This was sort of fun. An impromptu experience. They chatted for a while and then the food arrived. As true blue males there wasn't much talking as they stuffed themselves.
When he felt about ready to roll out of his chair Lyco sat back and sighed. "Thank you for the food!" He was so overstuffed and was highly content with that fact. While the food wasn't as good as Papa Isaris' cooking it wasn't half bad and sure beat dried meat and nuts that they might have had to sup on had they been stuck out in the wilderness.
Not a bad thing to be with Dad in an Inn in the middle of no where, especially if their breakfast was going to be anything like this. This was just great! They did indeed try a taste of each others food, the roast was very good. And he was quite pleased with the souffle.

After eating, he was frankly too full to move, something he wouldn't have done out in the bush. He always wanted to be able to move just in case. But, cossetted in an in with his son in pretty much complete safety he figured it would be okay to let his guard down somewhat, not fully but he didn't think anyone would pick a fight with him and his son for no reason.
Unless there was copious amounts of alcohol involved, which there were some on the tables but no one was straight pickled yet fortunately. He continued to sip his beer. It was rather good for Inn in the middle of nowhere ale he rather thought. Not too strong but that was another way to get more coin and less brawls in your Inn. A tip of the hat to the barkeep for making his job so easy.
He chatted with his son about this and that. Mostly they talked about Dep and his healing and how well the radaku at home were coming along in their individual training.

Lyco 6 He too was quite full and quite content. The music was decent and different from what they had at home. The food sat well in the stomach, rich with gravy and goodness. And his eyes had moved to a contented teenage half cast. He was quite relaxed and enjoying the experience of being out. He thought about the storm and how if it hadn't have happened he would definitely not be sitting in a busy Inn stuffed with food having a civilized and chill time, though he would have loved the hunting too.
This was plain fun and he was glad that the storm had chosen when it did to crash down on them so dang hard. The radaku were soft and cozy and soon so to would he be.
He was sorry Lura had been unable to come this time. He always missed his brother but it also wasn't all that often that he got quality one on one time so he might as well take it when he could get it and not end up maudlin because his brother who was usually attached at the hip wasnt' there to enjoy it with him. Bah.

Vallen 7 He too thought about the storm and the whims of fate. He was glad that the only one he had to look out for was Lyco and that he had completed his duty in protecting his son from the storm.
Safe and full he decided to order a coffee next and see if he couldn't set up a game of chess or cards for his son. At least they should have some sort of fun before calling it a night and going to bed.
In the end they played some card games, laughing at their luck, another family joined them and over all it was a very good way to spend the evening. Later, much later they packed up and headed up stairs for bath and bed.
He had in his infinite wisdom, brought a book on their hunt, so he bathed first then read while Lyco went about his own bedtime routine. He felt pretty relaxed all things considered as this was not in fact his house.

Lyco 7
He came out of the bath feeling very much refreshed and ready for the winddown to sleep. He crawled into his own bed and hoped that his Dad's snoring wouldn't be too bad.
He wouldn't know they slept in another part of the house. He snored a bit, and he swore he heard Lura sometimes. But he didn't actually know if Vallen snored or not as he almost always seemed to be awake before and after them. Of course they were teenagers and needed quite a bit more sleep than their parents. It was a weird transition from little one to teenager and Lyco was not sure he liked the new feeling of anxiety all that much and so much caring in younger circles about what other people thought when obviously it was your own opinion that mattered but in order to fit in you might change your opinion to seem to fit more seemlessly in with the group and over all he was pretty happy that they had homeschooled for most of their childhood.
