They had wandered far from home, trying to update the ranch's sailscale bloodlines they had spent a while, a pokey while for her mate, heading to Sauti and it was on a nest raid that the storm clouds moved in. They were scaling down the cliff and had just collected a few eggs when she called out to her mate that the storm looked rather ugly coming in.
They preferred to get wild sailscales for bloodstock as they were hardy and tough, the captive bred ones in some lines had been a little too domesticated and were used to being spoiled. For truly tough and vigorous lines you needed to collect eggs or adults from the wild and eggs were much easier, the parents had enough time to lay more to make up for the loss, they didn't take too many eggs from each nest either. It was good variety that way. They pulled from many nests to increase the vigor of the resultant hatchlings. This helped to insure they got eggs from excellent parents as well as mediocre. Somehow that mattered with sailscales.

At her call he crawled towards the entrance of the cave he was in and looking out saw that a flash storm had rolled in on them and man did it look angry that it had caught them nest raiding. "Time to go" He hopped up to the top of the butt with her and they scrambled for shelter. The winds had picked up and there was not a lot of spots higher than they were up here.
Sauti was temperamental and harsh compared to Matori, (well besides the ocean part of Matori but that was a different beast entirely.)
The clouds loomed closer and if possible he thoug0th they had gotten darker.
"We need to find something soon!" He called to her over the wind. Usually he loved storms but this was a bit too exposed of a spot to be safe caught out with that monster of a cloud formation all but growling at them and he was sure that the thunder and rain were coming...not to mention the lightning. "Hurry love!" He knew she was doing her best, so was he.

The sky opened and the downpour was on. Their search continued until they found a very narrow opening in a smallish rise but it was tall enough to stand so that was a start. She slipped in with her sword, the one she always kept with her, it was a big enough cave it would do in their circumstances of not having any other viable options. Excellent. She wiggled back out to drag her husband in with her.
Entering the cave again she scouted a bit further but waited for him to squeeze in. It would be harder for him with those manly shoulders caked in muscle. He was a solidly built man and his darker coloring just accentuated that now. She loved his old colors, she loved his new colors but most of all she loved the man who had been her constant companion and father of her children for her adult life. She loved him so very much. "See at least there was something," she knew full well what the odds of finding shelter up here had been.

He joined her once he was through and they travelled further into the cave which slanted down into the cliff face. "I think that maybe an ancient wind tribe made this place. He had lit a torch to light the way. "I see ruins and symbols that I can't read, might be ancient wind tribe script, but as I don't speak current wind I don't know."
They delved deeper, eventually finding a plethora of sailscale bones. "A sermal den likely. But long out of use." Further on there was a large round chamber with other chambers branching off from it. "I bet treasure hunters would love it here, isn't Tethys friend one? We should tell her and see if she can find anything in here. Pretty cool I'd say. " The storm rattled against the cliff. They could hear it through the stone. "Acts like a an amplifier or something this rock." It was a really neat effect and they were both a bit taken in by this magical and secret place.

"Ooh this place is so cool!" She trilled and skipped ahead of him in the torch light. It wasn't creepy at all because it was cool and dry unlike outside which was usually windswept and dry but now quite wet. "This sounds like one of those three day storms Kiyelt tells us about, I know they happen in spring im just never out out when they come."
She did think that three days sequestered inside with her mate was long over due anyway, they could have some fun before heading home if they were stuck here anyway, they would collect some more eggs after the storm if the conditions allowed and head home. There was always a time limit on expeditions but they had some time before anyone would come looking. They were outdoor savvy and they enjoyed this type of travel. The other brothers did it more but they were finally able to get more out and about now. It was fun. They had done much travelling this year around Matori looking at new places.

"It is! I can't wait to tell the kids. And yes that storm does sound like it will be around for quite a while. It is that time of year as you said." Oh well, it was cool ambience and they had plenty they could do over the next day or three to keep themselves occupied. There were not many earthling artifacts but there was some decent biology in the caves, they found a few different species in skeleton form and they often tried to come up with how the beast died. As a beast tamer it was a skill for more than one good reason.
It could tell you if a big predator was around for one and it could help prevent the spread of disease too if one was aware to look for signs on living beasts too. It was an art unto itself and he still got it wrong some times but the more practice the better and they did get that. A fact of life was in fact death and that was something that all who worked with life on a daily basis came to understand.

Once they had thoroughly explored the entirety of the cave, Umen started a fire by the entrance while she fiddled with their ingredients pack. They always got stuff off of Kylaelya and the beast ranch (for meat) before heading off. Ushiwa her nephew was a dab hand at the meat smoker and their quhar jerky was legendary. Her favorite was the garlic and honey but they had been successful earlier in bringing down a small game bird so she would cook that with the tubers and veggies for a tender birb stew.
Not bad fair for being stuck in a cave for an indeterminable amount of time. Rista sashayed leisurely toward the opening of their temporary nest. She set the pot over the fire he had roaring already, he was so good at that it was fun to watch how fast it went.
"This should heat up good, then i will put the rest of the ingredients in, no nibbling." She waved the spoon at him warningly.

He eyed her spoon like it was a venomous snake, the same way a janarim would side eye. It was for her amusement though she was nearly as practiced with butt whooping with the spoon as she was with the sword. Height or status be darned she would do it too. Strict in the kichen, more lenient on kids that actually helped with the food, though he had started the fire, he was sure it would be finnnne.
"Thats rabbit food anyway." He sneered at the veggies looking longingly at the meat. Bird was best not eaten raw unfortunately. "I'll wait thanks." He smiled rubbing his hands were he was pretending she had already got him. He was a brat, though it seemed not to have affected most of their kids except maybe Izel. Ustasis well he wasn't sure whos golden sweet personality his son had gotten, maybe from a grandparent? Tahnee was Tahnee and Ultear was well balanced.

They ate well and not long after she noticed the looks he was giving her. She smiled sweetly while inside it was more of a wicked grin, great minds thought alike. What were they to do with so much solitude. Their seduction was like a dance, practiced but genuine and heartfelt, no words spoken as they enjoyed each others company.
Her eyes cracked open and she heard a rustle. "Umen...you awake, what is that? Should I be armed?" That was the eternal question, she was somewhat more defenseless than normal at the moment and she was not sure she liked the feeling much.
"What is it?" She hissed, bent on him knowing the answer as he was the ever infallible beast tamer right? He should know the cave creepers of Sauti as well.

He rolled to his feet ready to mee the threat. "Its a sermal, I guess this place is not as abandoned as first we thought. They are graceful things, its probably in here out of the rain just as much as we are but I wouldn't want to sleep with him around. "Go on get out, skah!" He made himself big and scary and flicked his whip above the creatures head, the crack of noise sent the shy feline back out into the storm.
"Not the best to wake up with one eyeing you, they are small but not small enough for my liking." Ristadis was the most precious thing in his life and he didn't want to wake up to a furry face either. Cats were hunters through and through and these were untamable hunters no less.
"Best that he sleep outside tonight, there will be more cracks for him out there he fits in them better than we would, springy they are."

She had no argument for that, wild critters were only fun when you were conscious and sometimes not even then depending on the creatures attitude.
It was cozy enough in their cave. "How much longer do you think we will be here? I am having a great time but I am admittedly starting to miss our kids I must say." That was always and forever once you had them a part of you was always with them no matter how far away from them you really were.
She fidgeted. "I know they are old enough now but it feels for all the world like a giant magnet drawing me in to them."
She looked up hopefully at her mate, maybe he would have an answer with all that ranger intuition of his. "Come on babe, we can figure this out...we still have time before they search for us but I hope they are not getting worries. I wouldn't put it past our oldest to be able to find us, he is so talented."

He took her up to look outside, they sort of could see that the storm was still going strong. "I'm not sure I can tell with this one." But to give it a proper try he stuck his head out the cave. What greeted him was a wall of black clouds. "I think we will be here at least for another day, we can check the status tomorrow maybe. Hope you have some fun boredom games planned. What about a spooky story session, then we have an excuse to cuddle." He grinned at her. He always liked excuses to cuddle she was so darned cuddleable.
"Hopefully not too much longer now." He held her close and kissed her head. Happy wife happy life was a good motto and she was relatively low maintenance, needing cuddle time, alone time and some attention and that was what it took to make her happy. Of course he did extra too, because he loved her. And he always would. She was his rock his steadying.

"Spooky stories sound interesting." As it turned out they waited for the storm for two more days giving her plenty of time to think about it. She knew that the world needed water in spring but the storm seemed determined to give it to them all at once which was in her opinion a bit excessive. But this was the way of nature and was therefore way above her pay grade to worry over excessively. She would save that for her offspring.
"Well," she told him as they were heading home. "At least we got an extended vacation out of it. I wouldn't call it a loss we got done what we wanted to get done, it just took a lot longer after everything. She sighed. It had been good to get out but now all she could think of were the comforts of home and family back in Matori. "Why they park these regions so far away is beyond me, though I like Matori over them all that is for sure."

He for one was appreciative of the storm bringing much needed rain to start the cycle of spring life explosion that happened every year. They were at the mercy of the heavens as it should be, as it always had been. There was something ancient about big violent storms like the one that had kept them holed up like rats for a time but that provided boredom which was usually more profitable than people thought.
"Yes there is that. I like storms, they are a time to think for me, but I was very very happy that you were there with me." He moved his borrowed mount (their mounts had been well cared for at their actual Inn in Sauti until they could come out of the sailscale cliffs for them), and kissed her on the cheek. "You are my dawning light. The breaking of the clouds." He winked saucily at her earning a gentle smack on the shoulder. "I know I know wait for mush when we can get home." He grinned.
