They were out on the sea together, Zuella had again volunteered to help him fish. But today he thought he might just have made a mistake by thinking the big storm was going to pass them by. They were not as close to port as he might like as the wind and driving rain started with a pitter and a patter and then a deluge.
"Zuella! We have to get back to shore, this looks pretty bad!" He yelled over the rain. She had a brave face on but his own heart was beating faster. They had to get out of this and back to their kid. He would not want Thoraka to be left alone for any length of time, never mind if something more drastic happened to him at sea. Sae would look after his kid, but Kellye was determined to get him and Zuella back safe. The ship, might not make it, but well it was getting old and rickety anyway he had been considering selling it for something better anyway. As long as it got them close enough that they could make the beach without dashing on the rocks he would be content.

She frowned at her mate and at the sky, her heart beat picking up a bit at the worry on his face. "I'll do anything I can to help, don't worry we will make it." There was of course no alternative to making it and she would ensure that they got where they needed to be and that was safe on land. They were both fair swimmers if it came down to it. The ship could be ruined but those were replaceable.
"It is a real rip roarer isn't it?" She yelled to him through the wind which was blowing freircely now. Storms were a somewhat common thing in Matori but this kind of storm rode in on exuberance spring winds, rivaled only by the monstrous storms in the fall.
Still Matori was a nice place to be and a better fishing ground for her mate so while the fishing seasons were on they were here.

In an impossible amount of thumping heartbeats later they got the ship close enough to shore and anchored her there. There was no telling if she would survive but they just might if they could get off the water and into a bit of shelter somewhere.
"Okay Zuella, time to swim, we are close enough to shore." He took a bit of food that wouldn't spoil in saltwater and then dove off the side of the ship, wishing her fair luck in this storm, hopefully the anchor chain would hold, she was a dear old bird to him but it was more important that they survive.
He made strongly for shore, Zuella was just as strong and hopefully the current would not fight them. So far so good and they made it to shore just as the wind really started to howl. They made for the tree line which was up a small cliffside up off the beach and into the trees beyond.

She leapt over the side with him, trusting him completely and keeping up in the water. She liked the ocean despite not having any water earthling blood. The sea had always seemed so romantic to her, though at the moment it was more dramatic.
They made shore just as the weather started to get serious. They moved together to the tree line and dove into the Matori forest, the wind whipped branches in their faces and they held on to each others hand so as not to be separated. It was hard to see, it was hard to hear, the search for shelter was on. It took some time but they found a cave in a rock hill deep in the forest. She stuck her head in first, if she couldn't fit there was no point in continuing. But she did and she wiggled her toes at him signalling that there was nothing dangerous in the cave before she crawled all the way in to the cozy chamber.

He scrambled in the cave after her, taking a deep breath at being out of the truly strong winds, what an awful time out there. His boat may not survive this. He shook his head and explored the limits of their little cave with Zuella, it had two chambers, one big enough to sit and talk in and the other might serve as a slap dash bedroom, where the heat from their bodies should keep them warm. It was too closed to start a fire sadly so they could not dry out their clothes.
"I don't relish a damp time of it." He stripped to his undies and put them in a pile and then sat close to his wife. "Body heat is our best bet, but you won't hear me complain about secluded snuggles with you." He leaned over and kissed her.
"There are worse situations, we are okay and will be able to go home once the storm clears." Who knew how long that would take though. "More snuggles for me!"

Her feelers were brushing the low ceiling and she had to hunch. "I'm just glad we fit in here, it is a bit cramped but I can't complain about the company either. She did the same as he did and they sat as close together as possible. It was a slow process but they were in fact slowly warming up. There was no wind in the cave and there was a little heat from where the rock had been heated by the sun. She could have used a fire but this was more fun at least. Hard to start a fire when your tinder was all wet.
"Spring storms are long here." This looked like a good one. "At least Thoraka is in good hands. He is also old enough to look after himself, I still like spoiling him though." She probably always would, the gift of the mother was to always care about her children. She knew Kellye felt the same. They loved their stubborn and fiery son. She wondered who she had gotten the extra attitude from. Definitely not her and she didn't think her mate either.

"Best to get comfy then." He draped himself dramatically over her lap. "Oh whatever will we do with all of this spare time stuck here together?" He winked at her.
He giggled, he couldn't help it. He was able to be more himself around her, more carefree and more happy than he could with anyone else. She allowed him to take down every barrier around his heart that he put up. She had saved his life and had been saving him every day since, with her smile, with her laughter and her steady happy presence in his life.
Together they had taken on the challenge of parenthood and had hit it head on. Though there had been a few times where parenthood had gotten haggard or scary. Their son had a penchant for danger sometimes as most children did. He certainly kep them on their toes when he was younger. Now he was worried that Thoraka's mouth would get him in trouble.

"You are rediculous, what am I going to do with you?" She asked, making a face. She was happy that she got to see a side of her mate that no one else did. He didn't have to be serious around her.
She looked out at the little sliver of outside they could see from the cave tunnel in. The storm raged, water pounded down and she was happy they were high enough that it wouldn't flood. She always felt pensive and reflective during storms and this was no exception.
"I think they are beautiful, storms, so long as you have a cozy spot to wait it out. Did the food survive?" She asked. That would be important if the storm was going to continue, she didn't relish hunting or foraging out in that but she would, maybe there would be an overhand somewhere along the hill that they could start a cook fire under. She was always planning the next step, but if they had adequate food, no need to hunt.

"I like them when they are not about to eat my boat, I like the energy and the power and the pressence, rain is good. It also kind of reminds me of Thoraka he was named after lightning for a reason hey?" His son's name definitely suited him.
"You know, I love you." He smiled at her, happy that they had a long time to wait out the storm together. "I like the storm more because its letting us have some time together, though I do wish the cave would hurry up and warm up a bit, I suppose it is still better than cowering under a tree that the wind might root up on us and it is dry enough I suppose. Slowly they were heating the cave up with body heat and general chatter.
"Zuella, what do you see for the future?" Maybe she had some mystical foresight, they could test out that Alk magic.
He knew that she and Thoraka featured prominently in his future.

"Yeah I agree, alone time is always good, though we are slowly getting more and more of that Thoraka is testing the boundaries of his limits as he always has. I just don't know how much longer it will be before he decides he has to go off adventuring. I know all kids do, but he is still so young, he has so much to learn and some people can have...differing opinions on hybrids still...What do I see for the future? Well you of course and hopefully our son coming back whole and in one perfect piece after all of his wondrous adventures.
She could close her eyes and still see the toddling child that screamed when the head fell off the figuring that his parents had made for him.
"I can't unsee him as small, yet he is taller than you already." She wiped a tear away, "He is just growing up so fast, I suppose every parent goes through this at some point or other. Too bad he is not a homebody."
She sighed deeply. He would be fine, but she felt like her heart was breaking sort of.

"It will be okay, he will always come back, I think we still have a little while while he is on the brink of manhood there. He loves your cooking too much to wander far, we are safe so long as he is growing still." He winked at her. The boy could eat a lot. But then he had a very tall frame, took after his Mum that way.
He held her close, giving her the comfort she needed. It was hard when things were on the brink of changing. But Kellye had faith.
"Cheer up love, I'm not going anywhere. You won't be alone, I'm sure he will write and return often. We are home, and one day he will come to realize that."
There was nothing but the need for family after too much time alone, he knew what that felt like deep in his bones and he was glad that they were in this together.
"It will all be okay. You will see." He stared at the cave wall, it was dark and finally warm in the cave, he felt her head slump onto his shoulder, she was out for the count, his soothing speech had worked.

Under his care, under his voice, she relaxed and let sleep take her, she would nap for a bit and likely wake up so they could talk again, she loved storms but they sometimes made her sleepy, something about the low atmospheric pressure.
Her eyes fluttered open in the dark and she asked if he was awake but received no answer. He must have fallen asleep after her, aw well, she was comfy enough she felt that she didn't want to move or disturb her own sleepy rapor.
The storm drummed relentlessly outside, unceasing. She wondered again how long it would be before it was done and she could return to her kid. Her tall, kid. He was still a kid to her, he would always be her tiny little thing. His Father's bright blue hair always made her smile, paired with her bright alk skin. He was handsome if she said so herself.

He awoke somehow stuffed into the alcove further back the sleeping area. Zuella must have moved them in the night because he couldn't remember getting in there. Course maybe she bonked his head while she moved him. It was so dark in here.
"Good morning sunshine," He snuggled up behind her shoulder and rubbed his stubbly beard on her face. "Wake up beautiful we have to check to see if the storm will let us out yet." He loved moments like this, where they got to be playful and snuggly and feel newly in love all over again. If there was one thing he didn't doubt it was their love. He wouldn't survive without the sunshine she brought to his life, not to mention how wonderful a Mom she was to their son. But he always had fun with her and she kept his life from getting boring.
"I have snacks, will you wake up for that?"

"Mmmph." She moaned. He was such a morning person. It was so dark in here it still felt like night time and without the beckoning sun, what was the point. Oh right they were in a cave. "Storm? Has it stopped?" That would mean unfolding from their comfortable spooning position and a crawl to the other chamber to peak through the cave opening. That was unfortunate. "I don't care about the storm, I'm cozy and I don't feel like moving, besides I think I still feel it thrumming through the rock."
She snuggled deeper down into the warm wall of his body behind her. "Don't wanna." She reiterated, mimicing what Thoraka used to do to them when he didn't want to eat his greens or brush his teeth or any other irritating thing. He had been so cute, now he was swiftly approaching manhood. He would get facial hair soon enough, what was she going to do?
Though it might look really good, she still couldn't rationalize how fast the time had gone.
