Solo or RP Format Counts as 5 RP growth Points Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7
Sometimes, accidents happen. Your character has found themself in a situation where an honest accident has resulted in an item being broken. Possibly your own, or you may have broken someone else's. Was it an item at a shop, or a priceless artifact? How does your character react to the honest mistake?
(1/7)
Another lovely day on Xenia's ship. Sigh. Tavihe stopped their work and closed their eyes, leaning their weight against the push-broom they were using to clean up under deck. The ship was taking on new crew, and the order had been given to clean out some corners of one of the storage rooms for them to put their bags. Tavi was sure they were new crew, and not returning crew, because if they were then the lower ranked members would be moving their things here instead. Poor things.
Just a few months ago, they'd been in this same position; assuming the ship was just another job. Now, they were stuck in a contract, and despite getting on the captain's good side it was like the politics of the ship couldn't have cared less. They were the only Kahikina on board, and that immediately put them on everyone's radar. It could be worse; Tavihe at least had a taste for this kind of work, for better or for worse.

When Endellion signed onto the ship Nifo was ready to serve they didn't read the fine print and admittedly, they really should have. It hadn't occurred to them in the moment that a pirate ship could be docked among merchants in the midday sun, and yet, there it had been. A shining beacon of madness in a literal sea of hope and promise.
So, loathe as they were to admit it, Endellion screwed up.
Nifo was blending in about as well as could be expected. The Moakai's brash nature and aggressive attitude meant he wasn't pushed around as easily as Endellion was. Apparently there was another Kahi onboard, which meant little in the grand scheme of things, but apparently they weren't nearly as large as Nifo. He towered over deckhands twice his age and that glare; Endellion was just glad they were on his good side.
The true nature of The Whispering Witch hadn't been quite so apparent when they got on board, but the first time they'd overheard some of the crew talk....well, that wasn't so easy to ignore. By then the contract had been sealed, several leagues separated them from land, and work began.
As they moved to the lower deck, bag clutched tight to their chest, Endellion could only wonder how these next few years would go. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad - and maybe limbara could fly. They made their way over to the hole in the wall that would be their 'area' for the time being and sighed, ready to start another day in he-
"Tavihe?"

(2/7) Tavihe heard steps creaking their way down the narrow hallway, they stirred and quickly resumed sweeping. They raised a hand to wave halfheartedly to whoever opened up the storeroom, "Just about done- huh?" They blinked and looked, blinking at the familiar blonde hybrid they'd met at the last shore leave. Their mouth formed an 'o' of surprise. "Oh, it's you." They blinked again, taking them in with a bemused expression.
"Y'know, I never took you as a pirate the last time we met." They propped the broom up, carefully avoiding the shelving that was screwed into the wall, lined with supplies.

The singular other Kahi on ship was Tavihe? Seriously? Endellion knew they weren't that common on Tendaji, but out of all the places - Remember where you met them. Ah, yes, well....maybe this wasn't so much a surprise as it should have been.
"That's because I'm not." Endellion groused and hiked their bag up a little higher. "Or...I wasn't supposed to be." Everything about this was all wrong and the messed up part was that even if Tavihe ran with this crew it was a familiar face. One that they could - partially - trust.

(3/7) Ahhh. Tavihe tried to shift their face into a sympathetic one, but it came off more pitying than anything else. They propped the broom against one of the shelving units that were bolted to the wall, propping their hands on their hips. "Oh? Ohhh. Right. Yeah, you gotta read those contracts, buddy. I mean... I assume you can read, since you... had that book, last time."
Tavihe didn't realize just how closely their words echoed Endellion's mournful thoughts from minutes before.

"I can read I just-" Endellion closed their eyes on a frustrated growl. Regret only hurt as much as wounded pride could sting and more than once over the past day the hybrid felt it's burn.
"It's not like it matters what I can or cannot do anymore. Contracts signed; damage done." And on the final word, the hybrid tossed their rumpsack into the cleared out space with a half-hearted toss. Unfortunately for them it was just high enough to knock into the shelf behind Tavihe.

(4/7) It was, all in all... a collaboration. On its own the rucksack might not have done any damage; but once it knocked into the dangerously propped up broom, it caused a chain reaction of cacophonous noise. Tavihe sprung backwards on instinct, hands raised, as half of the carefully stacked upper shelf dropped with a sickening crash.
Whatever was in the box that had been stored on the shelf made a gut wrenching 'snapping' noise on hitting the ground, and for a pregnant moment Tavihe just stared at the debris, breath held.
"Well. Uh. Hm. ... Your room look ok? Yeah? I should just - let you get settled in, shall I?" Tavihe leaned as if trying to edge their way around Endellion to the half-ajar door.

It all happened so fast that it was impossible to grasp until it was too late. Almost as if they knew they'd messed up, the moment the bag was out of their hands Endellion took a half step forward, keen on taking it back, but then-
-everything fell apart and that snap -
For a moment they stayed there, stock still, too utterly terrified to move, until Tavihe started scootching around them. And then Endellion reached out to grasp their arm. "W-Wait. Please. What's in it? What broke?"

(5/7) "I...er. I dunno." Tavihe blew out a breath, resigned to the fact that they couldn't dodge the consequences unless they completely pinned it on Endellion. Which... could work, but given they were trying to get into Xenia's good graces (and Illapha's), they opted against it. ... And sure, they also had a fond spot for Endellion, from their first meeting.
So they shook off the hand on their arm and moved towards the pile, stooping to sift through the broken pieces. In any ship of good repute, this sort of booty would be stashed away behind lock and key; but after the last few hauls, knicknacks had been stashed in every spare spot, waiting until they got to a proper port to sell them at.
The pile of debris had been a few small chests; one had the hinge on the lid snapped off, with the contents inside mostly unharmed (it was some sort of ornately sculpted metal rose, jewelry of some sort - expensive, but not something as rich as to have gemstones).
Another was a thin, narrow tray with incense sticks, some of which had snapped - rich and cloying, likely religious of some sort. But what had snapped was ... an expensive looking polished metal music box, with a spinning figure that had once been on top. Now, the figure's head and arm was snapped off, and when Tavihe twisted the mechanism, the music that came out was tinny and distorted.

The teenager cautiously crept up behind Tavihe. They craned their head to around the Kawena's, chancing a peep at the damage while their hands uselessly flexed at their sides. This was - quite possibly - the worst way to make a name for themselves on a new ship and for it to be this sort of ship...Maybe...Maybe whatever had broken wouldn't be that expensive? And if Endellion was upfront about it they might be able to work off the debt.
But oh, of course it wasn't that easy, and the moment Tavihe uncovered it a grieving sort of groan slipped out. "I'm dead," They murmured. "When the Captain sees this she'll have a fit." Or worse, send them to that nasty looking first mate.

(6/7) The first mate would definitely kill them. Xenia seemed to tolerate Tavihe, enough to hook them up with private lessons with Illapha, but they really didn't think that mercy would extend this far. And unfortunately, after the things they'd seen on this ship, Tavi wasn't sure that it was that much of an exaggeration.
A new recruit, first day, and already breaking loot? The only thing worse would be finding out they'd STOLEN it instead. Tavihe should just leave them here - the crew would believe Tavi over Endellion, surely. Or worse, Indra would punish them both just to make a point.
Ugh. Ugggh. Tavihe heaved a long sigh then picked up the broken music box, grimacing as they stood, tucking it under one arm."No point both of us getting in trouble for something stupid."

"No no no," Endellion reached for Tavihe's arm again - this time with both of theirs - and tried to wriggle the music box away. "You can't take all of the blame! If I hadn't thrown my pack then none of this would have even started."
What if Tavihe was punished? For something that hadn't been entirely their fault? Endellion already felt terrible about breaking the damned thing, but having that on their conscious just didn't settle. "If we're just honest about it it shouldn't be too bad, right?" Even as they said it Endellion knew the truth. On their father's ship that might be true, but here? Not a chance.

(7/7) Tavihe wasn't typically a nice person, nor a martyr, and it went against the huge part of them that sought their own self preservation above all else. But they also prided themselves on being clever, and any way they turned it, not taking the fall would not only be cruel, but also lose them a potential ally - which they were dreadfully short on, on this ship. The social currency of having someone loyal to them outweighed most punishments they could think of going through.
"Shut up. I'm not doing it to be nice. You owe me." Tavihe said, firmly, twisting away so Endellion couldn't steal the box back. "I've been around long enough that cap knows I'm useful. You? They'd throw you overboard just as soon as anything else. It makes more sense. So let me handle this, yeah noobie?"

Endellion stilled and dropped their hands with a hurt look. Remember where you're at, Del. Remember who they are. People didn't just do things to help out other people here and maybe it was a kindness that they'd found out through Tavihe and no one else.
"Okay." They nodded their head and took a half step back, slipping closer into the hole that was their sleeping area. Still...Del took a deep breath and murmured a 'thank you' over their shoulder as they went for their rum sack.
