Spring storms can often appear with out little notice and last for days. They are filled with strong winds and heavy rain, which means one must halt their travel if they are able to even get outside during the downpour. Your character has found themself stuck away from home in an area with others seeking to avoid the storm. Who do they meet? What do they talk about? How do they feel about the storm?

[ A storm has resulted in your character finding themselves stuck in a location with others. Who do they encounter? What conversation do they have? And how do they feel about the strong storm rolling through? ]

It didn't seem like it had been too long that he had left Tale and into Sauti. Draven stopped a moment and looked towards the skies where the sun had just been shining down upon his head. Adjusting his pack watching the clouds over head as they thickened and darkened to blot out the sun. He glanced over his shoulder, wondering if he should turn back. The first crack of thunder over head made him jump as he dashed down the road further into Sauti. There was no turning back now as the rain started to fall in fat drops. Branches over head started to sway as the winds accompanied the clouds and weather over head.

"Hold off just a little longer..." Draven said as he raised his arms up to shield his face from the rain that was falling almost like stones from the clouds. "I didn't think the weather would change that quickly. Had I known, I would have stayed another day at the inn."

There was no going back now, he was in the middle of no where. Dark eyes looked around as all he could see were trees that grew thicker with each step he took. The ground turning to mud and leaf debris started to get kicked up by the winds that whistled through the trees. Hunched over slightly as the wind buffeted his face, Draven spotted a speck of light up a head. That light grew into a few as the lights through windows came into sight. A midway house sat on the side of the road that lead towards Iory.

"I will have to hunker down there, had Regale been here he would be having a fit." He chuckled running faster until he made it to the wide porch of the house. The sounds of laughter and merriment could be heard from within. It did seem that he wouldn't be here alone... This was a good thing.. Right?

"I thought here wouldn't rain this much!" Complained a young hybrid as she dashed through the rain towards a building that could mean shelter. Running at her side, its small wings flapping as it went, Soran the scorra kept pace with its companion. "I had told mom I wouldn't be long, but this storm came out of now where!"

The Scorra peeped as it shook the water from its feathers. When the pair reached the covered porch, the wind blew hard and almost swept the bird from the landing. Aldara held onto her companion as she headed for the door. Opening the heavy door, she ushered the bird inside as she followed pulling to door behind her.

'Hey, animals stay outside.' shouted one of the patrons as the Scorra shook the water from its feathers again near the door. Aldara jumped slightly as she turned towards the taller earthling as he had gotten up. He towered over her and was reaching for the bird before he was stopped.

Draven had been stepping towards the counter as the door opened again. He turned a little to watch someone shove a young looking bird into the building. It was soon followed by a young woman, one that looked faintly familiar to him... Where was it that he had seen her? Or someone like her? His thoughts were interrupted as someone else started shouting.

Draven looked out the window as watch thrashed about it and branches threatened to snap from over head. The patron wanted to throw the bird back out into this weather? It wasn't even fit for a Janarim to be out there without proper shelter. Stepping forward he caught the man's arm at the wrist.

"It is not fit for earthling or beast out there. Would you leave your trusted companion out in this weather?" Draven asked, his face hidden in a hood, "Now I suggest you leave them alone. The owner hasn't said a thing and they have the right to allow or deny them service."

The older man snorted, muttering something beneath his breath before turning away. Draven looked back towards the younger hybrid, still feeling there was something familiar about her. Perhaps if he heard her voice he might remember. Without really speaking to her, Draven turned and headed back to the counter to get a room if there were any left.

'There is one, we're doubling up on people in the rooms. So you might not be alone.' said the house's owner. 'If you don't want to share, there will be space here in the common room to sleep on the floor.'

He paused to think of what he wanted to do. Sleeping on the floor wouldn't be anything new, though he was looking forward to sleeping on a bed...

The older earthling growled at the hooded one, Aldara could only cower close to the door. Was it a mistake to stop here? Perhaps they could make it back home if they ran fast... Though both girl and bird would be drenched and threatening sickness. Already she was shivering from being soaked through. She just wanted to get somewhere she could change and get warm again. As the aggressive patron moved away, she stared at the one how had helped her. She was going to take him, but he moved away to see about a room. Following behind, the scorra following her, but remaining closer then ever. She listened to what was being said.

Doubling up in the rooms? Surely there would be enough space? Though with a glance around the common room, it was clear that there wouldn't be enough. The place was PACKED! This was bed.

"I am looking for a room too." Aldara spoke up meekly.

'I see, I am sure you heard what I told the young man here.' the owner said as they turn their head towards Aldara, 'I am sure someone will allow you to share their room.'

A voice spoke up from across the room, this one was a voice of someone who had too much to drink. 'She can share a room with me. I'll take good care of her.' The owner of the house looked towards the man and glared.

'You are sleeping in the stables if you keep that act up.' the owner shouted, showing that they were a hot tempered woman, 'And if I catch you doing anything wrong, you will be left to the mercy of the winds.'

Aldara shuddered as she shook her head. "I... I'll just get warm then try and make a run for home." She didn't want to stay here anymore.

'nonsense, you'd never make it. It's getting darker out there and that wind would sweep the both of you off your feet.' the woman said as she turned to fish out a key to the last room she had.

Hackles raised as a drunk had spoken up. Yea, no, he wouldn't allow someone like that to share a room with any woman. He had noticed the meek way the young woman had spoken, the voice he did recognize as the one he had run into back when the pollen was drifting through. She had screamed at him for what had happened to her, he had no idea then and still no idea now as to what he might have done wrong.

"I'll take that last room, I'll share it with her." He gestured towards Aldara, "I will just need a couple of sheets or a screen to divide the room." He knew that if his mother knew what he was doing she would have his head.

The woman behind the counter chuckled as she slid a key onto the counter. 'Third door on the right upstairs. I'll bring something up in a moment.'

Draven picked up the key and turned to a shivering Aldara, "You're welcome to join me, you'll have your own privacy." With that he headed for the stairs towards the second floor.

Aldara was ready to just run away, very quickly and very soon. She looked towards the hooded earthling, she thought he was an earthling anyways, as he offered to share the last room with her. She wanted to reject his offer, afraid of what might happen, but at the mention of something to give her privacy in the room she nodded.

"Thank you." She said softly, following behind the hooded earthling. "Come on Soran, lets go upstairs." She stared at the bird as it stood at the foot of the stairs. She had started to climb, before stopping. She had forgotten that her house was all one level and stairs weren't a thing. "Come on, I'll carry you." She said going back down the stairs, feeling eyes watching her.

Picking up the Scorra the best she could, the young bird still not quite full size. She headed up the stairs. Huffing, she set Soran back on his own feet before leaning against the wall to rest. "You are heavy, we'll have to teach you how to use the stairs yourself." She said looking towards Soran, who only peeped in response.

After a moment Aldara fast walked towards the room that she was to share. Glad to not be downstairs. It seemed that there were more men here then women. Were they just smarter then the male half of the population? She could only assume so. They were certainly smarter than she was right now...

Draven watched the young woman as she carried her companion up the stairs, seems that the bird wasn't trained or used to them? He never really understood the smaller animal companions. He had only two mounts, a lot larger creatures and a Keldari who lived in her carry bag most the time. She was something he would have to pick up from his sister. Approaching the room, he slid the key into the lock of the door and opened it. The room was modest in size with two bed. Some furniture would have to be moved to give more space in the middle, but it would do.

"Room's bigger then thought." He commented pulling off his pack and placing it against the end of one of the beds. Next he undid the buckle that held his sword in place. Finally he pulled off his sodden cloak and hung it on a peg beside the door. Shaking out his long dark hair, he turned back towards the girl.

"It does seem that our path has crossed again, Aldara." he chuckled as he moved to relocate the end tables that sat between the beds and walls to another spot and shove the beds closer to the walls. "That should be enough space, even with something in between," He commented before heading over to the bed he was to take and sat down. Wariness was written on his own face from trying to travel in this storm.

Aldara stared at the man as he removed his pack, sword and cloak. She stepped back as the familiar dark blue tinted hair caught her attention. He was as tall as she remembered and those dark blue eyes were still like sapphires. Shaking her head, it was only when he mentioned her name did she look at him again. She had thought of going back downstairs to see about just sleeping in the common room for the night when the scraping of furniture moving made her look.

"Cross? Or are you following me?" She asked accusingly, though she knew it was the latter. She had entered the building after he had and it could be said that she were following him. "Why would you want to share your room with me anyways? We barely know each other and I screamed at you the last time we met."

There was more she wanted to ask, but the Scorra was dancing on its feet as it flapped its small wings to try and shed a bit more water from them. Turning away from Draven as he had sat on one of the beds she went to her companion. The bird was in need of drying off, really, they all were. "Hold still you silly thing and I will try and get the water out of your feathers." She said as Soran peeped again as Aldara hunted for the brush she had for him.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 29, 2024 5:31 pm

"If I were following you, I sure had a good head start to get here before you." he quipped as he watched her go at her companion with a brush. "As for sharing the room, unless you want to go back down stairs with the rest of the men." He watched her as her face seemed to pale. "What I thought. Besides, my mother would kill me if I did anything rude. She is a very strict woman."

He thought of the Alkidike who had adopted him when he was on his own. He had mentioned that he never knew what having a mother was like and she had taken him in. It was certainly a strange meeting in the Oban desert and one that would always stick with him. Then there was the meeting of his sister, she was of course a hybrid. Draven had to wonder if he would see V'Dem again... Though it was proven that she would travel to the cold lands of Zena to find him.

A knock came to the door as the woman from the counter stood outside their door. Draven got up to answer it. Opening the door he was greeted by the woman who had a folding screen leaned up against the wall. Also a hot pitcher of water, towels and food for the pair. 'Here is the screen. Also thought your two might want to wash up and have something hot to eat. You're both soaked clean through and the young girl seemed to be shivering quite a bit'

"I do thank you." Draven said as he took the water and food. These were placed on the table in the corner of the room, there was a basin to pour the water into. Taking the towels he reached to pick up the folding screen. "How much do I owe you for all this?" He asked feeling that this wasn't going to be cheap.

'OH don't worry about the charge. You can pay in the morning, have a good night my dears.' she waved before heading back down stairs to where he could hear the woman shouting at the men who had apparently started fighting.

Aldara, brush in hand just about jumps out of her own skin as the knock came to the door. Edging backwards when Draven got up to answer the door. She sighed in relief when it was just the owner of the building. Soran just about ran towards the food when Draven took it and placed it on the table. "No, Soran. You'll get food afterwards." She told the bird who just looked at her with hungry eyes.

Taking one of the towels from Draven she used it to help dry Soran, his feathers becoming a fluffy mess. It was a good thing that there was more then just two towels offered. Afterwards she looked back as the woman had left to deal with something down stairs. The shouts being heard, though nothing clear. "Do these places always get this loud?" She asked as Draven had closed the door and started setting up the screen to divide the room. The privacy was nice and she could go about pulling off her own soaked clothing.

Shaking the clothing she laid them over a chair she pulled over and started searching her pack for her extra set, finding that she had only brought an over sized shirt. Frowning she curled up in the blanket from the bed as Soran made his own spot on the floor to sleep.

"Most places can be. Taverns, way houses are some of the worst for it. Any place that offers Ale or anything strong. There are bound to be some rowdy people." Draven answers as he stood on his own side of the screen. The long wooden frame cut the room in half allowing both to have their own spaces. "Sounds like you haven't been out that much. Planning on staying home your whole life? He asked as he too pulled off his wet clothing and pulled on dry, warmer clothing. "Storms like these always bring out the worst of people as well. I find them a little tedious, but a sign that I may need to slow down a little. Even if I hurry to get back somewhere."

He hadn't wanted to put on the woolen clothing so soon, but he had little choice as the rest were soaked. He hoped that they would dry over night and he could change once again in the morning. Clothed, he stepped up to where the screen didn't reach and gave a side look towards where Aldara sat wrapped up in a blanket.

"Still cold? Or did you forget to pack extra clothing?" He had an extra woolen shirt, but it was surely too big for her to wear. Turning his attention towards the warm hash and eggs, he halved the plate and left hers on the table, returning to his side of the room.

"I would rather be at home when a storm like this rolls through. Never liked them that much, not even when I was younger."

Aldara pulled the blanket tightly around herself as she looked away from Draven who looked warm within his wool lined clothing. She had her sleeping clothes, but nothing more then that. Turning away she waited for him to get what he wanted before moving carefully to grab her part of the food and started eating.

"So what if I do want to just stay at home? Something wrong with that?" Aldara asked defensively as she at. At one point almost choking in the hash. Finding her water flask, she drank some of the water and carried on eating. Being at home is safest, no one ever bothers you. Trouble stays away."

She ignored his question about her clothing. She didn't want to talk about it as she put her plate back onto the table and curled up under the blanket. She still shivered now and again, but she was getting warmer beneath the cloth. She heard something scratch against the floor as she peeked out to look at Soran's face. She had forgotten about him, picking up her pack she pulled out a small bag of feed and offered it to the bird. He ate with much greed before settling down again to sleep.

Sleep also came to Aldara as she remained beneath the blanket, the bed more then welcoming to her rest.

Draven made little to no comment to what was said about being safe at home. He really had no true home to return to. Sure his adoptive mother said that he could come home to her place any time. But it wasn't "his" home. There was also the fact that not all homes were really safe. Fights and intruders were always a thing. Raising from his bed after he finished his own meal. Picking up the plate that Aldara had eaten off of, he set both outside the door as well as the pitcher as he poured the water into the basin and washed his face. He was already feeling much warmer then before.

Turning he looked towards where Aldara was sleeping, buried beneath the blanket that covered even his bed. He noted that once and a while there was a shiver as if she weren't seem to be warm enough. Going back to his own gear, he pulled out his sleeping bag, well it was more of a heavy blanket, but it was very warm. Shaking it out he tossed it over Aldara and returned to his side of the room.

"Should keep her a bit warmer." He muttered to himself stretching out over his own bed, drifting off to sleep.

In the morning, he was the first to rise, never being one to sleep in. He retrieved his sleeping bag, though Aldara seemed reluctant to let go of it while she was still sleeping. Folding it back up, he crept out the door with all his gear and clothing changed. The storm had passed by a few lingering showers persisted. But it was safe enough to travel out into again. He bid farewell to the owner of the house before exiting.

Aldara slept fitfully as she didn't seem to be warm enough, while the blankets were nice, it just wasn't home. The addition of another blanket over her eased her shivers and she slept more soundly. When dawn broke, the extra blanket was taken she rolled over and went back to sleep. It was a couple hours after the sun had fully rose into the sky did she awaken. Blinking a few times she noted the quiet in the room.

"Hey, you still there?" She called out, but was answered by silence. Getting off the bed she peeked around the screen to see the bed empty. Even the gear that Drave had against the wall was gone. Had he left already? Getting dressed and picking up her own stuff, the Scorra following behind her.

She went down stairs and to the counter, the woman was there serving up food for anyone who was still lingering around. "The man who I shared a room with. Did he leave already?" She asked the woman.

'He left a couple hours ago. Early riser that one, wish my husband were the same way.' she chuckled, 'He leave anything behind or something?'

Aldara shook her head, "No, but I did want to thank him. I... I wasn't the nicest on our first run in and wasn't this one either." she looked down towards the floor, "I was hoping to change the tone, but seems I will have to wait for another time."

'Ah, I am sure your paths will cross again. Fate always has its way.' The woman smiled as she offered a plate of eggs and sausage. 'Now eat up, It is looking to be a wonderful day.'

Aldara looked at the food offered before looking at the hungry Scorra as she offered the bird some of the egg, not sure if it would eat the stuff. Soran looked at the offered food, but ignored it looking for more grain feed. She would have to find something along the way as she ate her own breakfast and headed outside. She debated heading home, but something else pulled her in the direction headed further into Suati and she was going to see what it was about...
