It was common for Remarque to be out and about this time of evening. On the tail ends of the chillier months, he was glad to be feeling the start of Spring. He was gathering energy, just making a few last minute rounds before he turned in for the night.
Stepping through a mirror in the park meant he often set himself up to walk into company, and he took the risk of that every time he went out.
Tonight, a General.
Remarque sighed, prepared for some rambunctious youth. Some hot-headed punk looking to start s**t. Some conniving backstabber. Some trouble.
And yet, he was ready to face it head on.
He stepped from the mirror, well-hidden in tall bushes, and brushed himself off as he moved to the clearing. A flash of dark colors caught his attention, but he’d known he was close to the General. He just didn’t realize who.
“Zinkenite,” he greeted, but was scrutinizing his outfit and energy signature. He’d been an Eternal the last time their paths crossed, and he was out and about as an Eternal now. Zinkenite had been a General King back then. He assumed it was the same now, despite the softer energy signature. It was just easier to move around when you weren’t dealing with a train of problem-makers trying to tail you.
“Long time, no see. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you in this getup. Where have you been?”

"Remarque! Or should I say Prince Remarque!" The greeting was pleased and the nod familiar. "Hopefully ours haven't been giving you and yours too much trouble while I was away. I'm afraid I had to deal with some troublemakers outside of the city, the corruption ran deeper than we had at first imagined, but I'm back now, hopefully for some time." He glanced down at his uniform and brushed a hand over the long, jagged designs that he knew evolved into smoke when he showed his full power. "Yes, it's been some time since I was able to wear this. I admit... I missed it and the freedom that it brought with it. It's good to be able to wear it again." He shook his head and continued. "I hear a great deal has... happened since I left, would you like to stop for some tea or am I interupting a mission?"

Remarque wasn’t surprised that Zinkenite knew of his title so his face betrayed nothing of note. “For you, I can make some time.”
He didn’t really have a mission, per se. He assigned himself what tasks he thought appropriate, and he was free to do more or less than he wanted. But to catch up with Zinkenite? He’d have been a fool to miss out on the opportunity.
“You’re certainly welcome back. I always did think you had a good head on your shoulders. Sorry to hear about your trouble out of town.” Glad that he didn’t have to worry about anything like that, though. “For the most part, my Court’s been good. Sounds like The Negaverse has been giving you more trouble than they’ve been giving me. But we try to stay out of your way, we’re not looking for trouble. You know how it it goes.”
He shrugged, apparently rather easy going around the General King. It was certainly easier to be around him without his usual aura, so Remarque wouldn’t complain about how things were. Especially if it meant they could converse undisturbed.

"Consider it the 'White Moon Senshi' whom were the source of the headache for the most part." Zinkenite replied with a shake of his head. "I'm glad your court has been giving you little trouble, and that we still seem to be at a sort of peace." He regretted that they were no longer true allies but, it wasn't his choice to make, and as long as they were peacable it was a good things. The last thing that they needed was war on another front. "I don't suppose you'll tell me how things have gone from your own perspective." He offered and pulled his thermos of tea out of negaspace, along with a spare cup. "Shall we find a bench or keep this to a short walk?"

“Whatever you prefer. I’m young, I can do either.” Sit, stand. He didn’t feel vulnerable or exposed, and he didn’t feel obligated to play either host or guest with Zinkenite. He had no preference as long as the conversation was good.
He didn’t rush Zinkenite for the tea, but he supposed it would be easier to enjoy the tea if they were sitting. He didn’t suggest anything.
“What sorts of things do you want to know, from my perspective? I’m happy to share, of course. Just seems like a broad subject, where do you want me to start?”

A heavy sigh as Zinkenite made his way towards a bench where they could sit, a mute motion that he thought the other man would understand and appreciate. Especially as anyone who decided to trifle with the pair of them would ultimately be in for a nasty surprise. Finding a bench, he settled on it, summoned his tea and a spare cup, and served before continuing the conversation. "I understand we're dealing with aliens for one, so that's a ... delight." He said dryly.

When Zinkenite settled on the bench, Remarque did the same. He slumped, not inelegantly, as he made himself comfortable. He accepted the cup with a word of thanks but appreciated the aroma for the moment.
“Not a fan?”
The corner of his lip twitched into a half smile.
“I thought you were supposed to be working with some of them. I can’t say they’ve given me too much trouble, but I don’t go out of my way to make enemies. You have any history with them that I should be worried about?”

"If I had to be honest, I haven't met any of them yet." He replied with another sigh. "But the idea that there are... more of them invading the earth, and that some of them are the same sort of senshi that we fight on a daily basis is, purely infuriating." He glanced at his old... friend, if that's what they could be called, companion? Acquaintance? "What about you, have you met any of them?"

Remarque shrugged noncommittally and sipped at the tea. “Not in any personal capacity. Crossing paths doesn’t quite count, I don’t know any of them well enough to give you honest feedback. I know that they seem to stick to themselves, but I don’t know if that’s just because they don’t know what to do with the Dark Mirror Court? We’re a bit less loud than the Negaverse.”
A bit less dangerous.
“I’ve heard the Vanguardians are trying to leave, if it’s any consolation.” He supposed Zinkenite should know more than he did about them, but if he was just getting back there was probably plenty of equally important information to take in. “That they’re looking for their runaway prince, who may–or may not–still be in Destiny City. I’ve heard he’s particularly elusive. But I assume that they’ll leave when they accomplish their goals. It’s the Senshi from beyond our world that have me curious. They’re the ones that seem the most dangerous. I can’t imagine they’re here except to leech off of Earth.”

"Just so, if the princesses and the like can go back to their home worlds and apparently restore them from the damage they did, why are these ... Deep Space Senshi HERE? Why aren't they going back to their own homeworlds to restore them and their people. Did they not do enough damage to their own worlds?" He huffed and shook his head. "Oh, right apparently that's us, always 'Chaos', though you won't find a negaverse officer there on their worlds, or any Deep Space officers either."

Remarque laughed softly. “Ah, who knows. And even if we had an answer, is it trustworthy?”
He shrugged, amused by Zinkenite’s huffing but otherwise unflustered by the topic.
“Any answer they give is moored in bias. They see what they want to see. Which rarely includes their own shortcomings. I confess, it’s rare to find anyone under the White Moon capable of concocting a well-thought plan, much less see it through to the end. They seem to chase their tails and work in circles. The chance of them doing something productive?”
He shrugged.
“If they were capable of that, I think you and I might have suffered for it already.”

"Ah, fair, very fair." He sighed. "I suppose it's a common flaw between, good agents, mirror senshi, and agrivating 'Order' Senshi." He curled a lip slightly and huffed. "That the best of us are all devout in our conviction that we're doing the right thing. I suppose we have a great many simple people on both sides though as well, lip service to get the job done as though it were an irritating task instead of a vital service."

Once more, Remarque seemed amused. “We’re all guilty of it.” He shrugged.
“Some of us are better than others. It’s not their conviction that I mind, it’s the deception. It would be much easier if they just gave it to us honestly. I’ve had my fair share of Dark Mirror Senshi tempted by their promises. I do what I can, but when people craft such colorful illusions? There’s only so much I can do.”
Not that he was going to gossip about Dark Mirror ‘traitors’ with someone who was just as likely to put a target on their back.
“They’ll figure it out eventually. But by then it’ll be too late. The White Moon likes to pretend like they’re all innocent and pure, but I think it’s just because they don’t like what they see when they look in the mirror.”
He clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth and shrugged. “Too bad. Have you seen Mirrorspace recently, does the Negaverse have any fancy reports about what we’ve been up to?”

"I suppose you're correct, but if you're not occasionally at least trying to evaluate your situation..." He sighed. "I do feel bad that you too have lost senshi to them, I hope that you have taken at least as many as you have lost...for all the good that hopes do." He let out a deep sigh and then continued. "... I think the white moon thinks they are good with too much conviction. They even blame us for children being dragged into the war, as though it's not White Moon that garbs them and sends them into the world. Like their cats aren't part of that very problem." An interested look though, passed over his face as Mirrorspace had been brought up. "I haven't been anywhere but where I was assigned lately. I don't suppose that's an offer to see what you're up to? If I have a report on it at all, I fear I have not read it."

Remarque shrugged again; he didn’t indicate if he’d taken as many as he lost, but that was subjective. They had more members in the Court now than when he’d last seen Zinkenite so it had to count for something.
“They’re more desperate than we are,” he shrugged. “Not a fan of the children Senshi, but I haven’t seen any in a while.” Now even the teenagers seemed so young, though. Maybe just because he was getting older.
“I’ll take you into Mirrorspace if you ever want to go. Can’t promise it’ll be anything amazing, but we’re friends enough, aren’t we? I don’t see the harm.” Of course, if the Negaverse ever wanted to do anything sneaky, or if they wanted to bring the Dark Mirror down…
It just wasn’t in their best interest right now. Besides, they couldn’t think the Dark Mirror was really a threat. They had more important things to worry about. For now.
“Maybe you can put in a good word for us. We might not be officially allies but I’ve always liked you. You’ve got a good head on your shoulders. Would be good to keep in touch. Probably beneficial to both of us. Especially if we don’t know what these otherworldly visitors are all up to.”
