Traitor.

That word. That unconscionable word that felt as if were a thousand knives, cutting into flesh. Meissa stared down at the phone in her hand before she nearly had the urge to simply hurl it over the side of the building that she currently perched upon. She was a traitor. She hadn’t been able to save that poor Page so many weeks ago. And even worse, here she was attempting to at least gain the trust of a corrupt senshi by making an overt gesture of wanting to join the Negaverse, to what … spring a trap? Kill the other senshi? Detain them somehow? …

Then what would happen? No one would be able to keep Beatrix confined, could they? At least not on Earth. No, some other senshi or knight would have to senshi-nap her off to an unknown planet just to make sure that she was contained. Could Meissa really ask the deed of a total stranger to do that for her? Could she be willing to risk the hassle of trying to get to her world with a stranger in tow? Her gaze rose to the star-studded sky above her head before wondering just what her homeworld could be like. She had never gone, not once. Even as she brought her free hand up to her chest did she wince again. Ever since her starseed had been handled by Beatrix, she had been dealing with phantom pains in her chest; Almost as if the hand were still there, squeezing tighter and tighter with each passing day.

Closing her eyes the senshi of bobcats willed the phantom agony away before constructing a new text message to Beatrix, hoping that the corrupt still believed her enough that she might possibly let down her guard.

“B, M here. Status update time: I’ve actually gone and purchased a ticket for a trip via train to New York City in two weeks time. I’ll be going alone and figure this would be a good time to ‘disappear’ … but the ticket itself is more of a ruse. People will think I’ve gone off on a solo experience to NYC but I’ll be staying in Destiny City. Pretty sure I’ll earn the cost of the ticket back when I’m in the correct attire, right?” I figure there’ll be a bit of a stir when I fail to return home but I do believe my parents will find the note I plan to leave for them explaining that I’ve decided to travel around for longer than anticipated. By then things between us should be settled, right?”

Hitting send, Meissa breathed in sharply before almost wishing she could delete the text message right away. What on earth was she doing?

Things had been a bit of a whirlwind for Beatrix, especially now that she’d found out her bank account was not in fact in the negatives as it had always been in the past. When she finally found all the things she needed to go to the bank to get a new debit card, she found out there was way more than enough to move to a bigger place. It would have to be one with at least two bedrooms and she was honestly relieved to know she could move to a better part of the city.

Making her way back home after it all, she felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. It wasn’t Theo but Meissa who had messaged her this time. Hurrying the last bit home as she read the message, she had to wonder if the Negaverse would do such a thing. If not, she had more than enough to cover it now. It felt strange, having… a safety net of sorts. It meant she could maybe relax a bit on what she’d been doing, at least when it came to robbing drunks for money. She still enjoyed cleaning things up otherwise but she wouldn’t have to stress as much if none of them carried cash.

“Heya M, sounds good to me. I think the stations are pretty crowded so it’d be easier to dip out or not have to be there and stuff. Also yea, I can make sure it’s covered no problem. I’m pretty sure there’s a form or somethin for it. Oh that reminds me, if you said you’re going for a trip you should pack some things that are important to ya. Maybe like photos or things that you wanna keep around after stuff? I’ve got a few things I gotta settle on my end but I’ve got it turned up to 11 and should be ready way before then.”

Tapping out the message and sending it off, Beatrix was powered down and sitting on her mattress on the floor. She’d started sorting through things, putting what she was actually taking with her into a few boxes and the rest into trash bags. The mattress was definitely not coming along, it was…. Still a mess after the whole thing happened after the fight with that amped-up order senshi. Meissa was different, at least it felt different. Either way, she was kind of excited to have a roommate and someone that she was bringing into the Negaverse. Aside from the praise she would get, it was just going to be nice to have someone around here.

Was it truly harder to lie with pen and paper than it was via text message? Meissa wasn’t sure anymore. Even as the little dots that indicated a response was being written had Meissa staring down at the screen before she simply exited the message program and put the phone down at her side. Even when the device vibrated she simply ignored it before she brought her legs up to her chest and simply propped her chin onto her knees. What exactly was she doing; had her ruse gone too far now to safely back out of things? It was feeling like she was slowly being dragged under a murky lake and finding it harder and harder to fight her way back to the surface in order to continue to breathe. Even now as the phone vibrated again did Meissa wearily glance at it before giving the heaviest of sighs. Somehow she had gotten herself into this mess on that night where she’d witnessed Beatrix murder a page. Had she simply left the corrupt and not opened up these lines of communication she could have been content to let life go on and not worry.

But it was almost as if she couldn’t let go of the chance to somehow deal with Beatrix. It was that reason alone that saw Meissa continue to exchange messages. If she could get the corrupt to lower her guard, then maybe things could be done. But the question now was, could she trust anyone to help her out with a plan of subduing the chaotic senshi long enough to make things right in the world? The only other individual that she thought she could rely on was one who had helped her unlock her super stage one stormy night on a rooftop. But she just didn’t know if she could drag Illyria into the ******** of her own making. Her gaze sought out the comfortable sight of the constellation of Orion and she knew that somewhere in that very familiar section of space, her homeworld lay. She had never gone. It felt at times like it was calling for her to come home but Meissa had firmly resisted. Shaking her head she glanced over to the phone that was now silent. Reaching over with her left hand she picked the device up and felt the accompanying vibration that indicated a new message before opening it up and reading Beatrix’s answer to her message. Photos? Why? Her fingers danced amongst the phone’s onscreen keyboard as her new message took shape. If the text message had a “voice” it would have been read with a hint of confusion. Meissa really didn’t get the meaning behind taking objects that seemed important to her. If it was just supposed to be a trip, would that not arouse suspicion?

“Why pictures? I could see taking a camera to take photos to keep up appearances but why would I need photos already taken? It’s a good thing that the cost of the ticket will be covered. It wasn’t exactly cheap. I’m starting to truly realize that planning takes a lot more structure than what I would have ever imagined. If it weren’t for the necessity of duping my folks, I think I would have gone for something much quicker than this charade I’m now living...”

Oh. That line didn’t sound at all pleasant. Meissa sniffed softly before adding in a line that seemed to sum up the scenario and how she was feeling about everything … “B, I feel like I’m living the life of a lie…”

Thinking over what Miyamoto told her, she tried to figure out the best way to explain while not flat out saying that she outsourced something. It felt like that would be a bad idea, especially as she read the bit about living a lie. Sitting on that sad little mattress, she stared at the phone and its keyboard and tried to figure out things. It was easier to focus now that she’d gotten over that mess from the senshi and had calmed down on the starseeds a bit.

“Just like things to decorate with or like stuff to help get things moved over to a new you new life kind of deal yanno? You can’t really just walk up like hey I’m so and so give me a social security card. A lot of stuff can be done in house but somethings have to be done the normal way ya. It’s a bit of a pain, the dmv and all but yea. Planning it all out is a lot, I know I’ve got a lot going on on my end to make sure it’s all good and smooth sailing. Hey but look at it this way, once it’s all said and done the set up would help things move over smoother. It’ll be ok M, I’ll make sure it all goes well! : )!”

Tapping along and sending out the message, she felt a bit dumb. Maybe she was getting so hung up on the idea of having a roommate and maybe getting out of this terrible situation she’d been in but she wanted this all to work out. If they wanted to come over like they’d said originally, she wanted to make sure it worked out. The rest of it would be for Hessonite to handle and the old fuddy-duddy baker Axinite. At least if she could remember they were supposed to be able to get a new social set up for someone after things went down.

Shaking her head, she started to pick at the loose threads in the holes of her pants. She could get new clothes after the move, maybe be a bit more put together. It would work out, she knew it would, the Negaverse had been so good to her and she’d been doing so much for them.

Oh, new ID and such. That would make sense as to why she needed photos. In hindsight, that was probably a good approach to trying to keep up appearances. Still, as independent as she could be at times, Meissa was, not unexpectedly, experiencing a lot of misgivings about this whole ruse. Her gaze fell to the phone that she held in her hands before she gave a rather large sigh. Thumbing open the text message application Meissa thought for a moment before she gave up on giving an immediate reply back. What good could replying back right away do for her? There would only be the chance of messing things up if she didn’t think about her next reply. Having told Beatrix about the ticket that she’d purchased was good enough for now, wasn’t it?

Her gaze fell onto the city life going on below her and Meissa felt the sudden pang of loneliness wash over her. Being a senshi on one’s own certainly brought about a lot of pitfalls to overcome. Turning the phone over in her hands the bluenette sighed before thumbing back to Beatrix’s message in order to reread it. Hastily she simply sent a thumbs up emoji in response before adding a quick second message of having to deal with another issue.

B, something has come up. Gotta go. See you in two weeks. M

Sending the phone away into her pocket of subspace Meissa did, in fact, have something come up. Hopefully there could be a solution worked out for when she met with Beatrix in two weeks. Something that meant she could go back on her word to the corrupt senshi.

Staring at her phone, she waited for a response. It took a bit and wasn't what she'd expected but it could be anything. Typing out another short reply took a few tries because she wasn't sure what the best thing to say was.

"Good luck M see you then! B"

Setting her phone down, she looked around at the progress she made before picking her phone back up to text someone else. It was time to get things moved over so everything would be ready in two weeks. She might just take a bit of satisfaction burning this mattress if she could get away with that, the thing was gross and she was glad to be able to get rid of it. Tossing a shoe at the light switch, she laid back down and scrolled through apartments to find one that was available.
