The night was cold and drizzly, a fair bit of misery that suited Brassite's vibe just fine. She was also out here to make a particular person miserable, even if only for a few, extremely painful minutes. Already drained, the man on the pavement groaned as she reached into his chest, singing a small, cheerful tune.

"This is what you get, you ********' piece'a s**t ~ !"

She was careful, picking targets. (Not victims. Targets. Of their own design and deserving.) It was important to figure out the right sort of person, but it was also important, according to the thoughtful and cautious Mimsy, to vary her source of information. Their location. And the reason why they deserved what they did. Patterns were an enemy.

Of course there were other sorts of enemies, too. Glancing up, Brassite looked around, something in the vicinity irritating her senses in a manner she'd been warned about months before.

Shuddering, Saiph moved closer to what she thought was the source of the grating against her senses. It felt like Ilmare, but different somehow. And Saiph did not like it. Keeping to what shadows she could, she silently cursed the drizzle. It would be easier to keep hidden if she wasn't plastered in raindrops that caught every bit of light available.

Then, she saw it. A girl crouched over someone on the ground. This was the source of what she had felt and now that she was so close, the feeling was nauseating. This was Chaos. And she had to assume the girl was the source since whoever was on the ground didn't seem capable of doing much of anything.

Taking a deep breath, she reminded herself that she was small and reasonably fast. She could do this.

"Seems a little unfair to go at someone who can't fight back," she said as she stepped forward.

It was a girl about her age, wearing shorts and a caveman croptop. Pretty cute, but also like, she'd heard senshi were dangerous. This one didn't look or talk very dangerous at all, though. There was a certain amount of relief in that, but maybe also some disappointment.

She took a moment to make sure the starseed came out properly. And then it was gone, into her little bit of pocketspace as the nerds liked to call it. "He's like, and adult and twice my weight. Best way to go at him is if he can't fight back." That was just common ********' sense.

Brassite straightened herself up and gave the other girl an obvious head to toe glance, "You, though, aren't you another matter entirely?" The lieutenant squared up and gave the senshi a come at me gesture.

Course squaring up wouldn't do much if there was some kinda tough magic at the other's beck and call, but Brassite felt that it was important to look tough and cool in her first fight against The Other Side.

Okay, Saiph had to admit the girl had a point. She didn’t have to like it, but she was honest enough to at least mentally give the agent points for logic. She felt doing so verbally would set a bad precedent. Even so, stealing people’s starseeds was super gross. And Saiph was pretty sure that was what had just happened.

She knew the appraising look that the officer gave her for what it was. It certainly happened enough times at school for her to be aware of what was happening. Pacing slowly, she did her own head-to-toe and scowled. The agent wasn’t much older than her, brilliant hair that Saiph might have been jealous of if circumstances were different. And she held herself in a way that made Saiph wonder just how much trouble she’d be in a fight.

Fearless, that was the word she wanted. This agent was fearless. Whereas Saiph felt like a bowl of soggy noodles on the inside, even if she wouldn’t let it show.

“I suppose I am,” she acknowledged the question before pausing and doing her own squaring up. Stretching her arms up over her head, she brought them down and laced her fingers together, cracking the knuckles. Hell, this might even be kind of fun. The other girl was very close to her power wise, she would guess. And agents didn’t have magic. If she was smart and used her magic strategically, she’d be okay. Probably.

“We doin’ this or what? I haven’t got all night.”

The response was the red head swiftly closing the gap, shoulder first to slam into the senshi, relying on the extra bit of height and weight to stumble the girl. America's fighting experience so far was mostly the schoolyard variety. She never shied away from a girlfight and actively enjoyed getting rough with the rare boy who ********' dared.

As Brassite though, she was in something of an awkward position. She was on the younger end of the recruitment spectrum, and her general was one who was rather gentle. So finding people to even spar with was...well, not often worth the effort of looking. It just people in an awkward spot of either have to deny her or having to beat up a 14 year old girl. A real no win situation. Which isn't to say no one helped, but it was usually more instructional than fighty.

The civilians she starseeded didn't count. They didn't get a chance to fight back. Honestly, this was probably what could be considered a good, and pretty damn safe opportunity to punch on someone powered and have them punch back.

On impact, she snapped out with a smile, "You just try n'make this quick."

The things that Saiph knew about actual fighting could probably be counted on one hand. She was a relatively peaceful kid, overall and had always relied on whining and tattling in the schoolyard to deal with potential bullies. Maybe a couple of slaps, but never an actual fight. She was at a severe disadvantage and she knew it. She was also hesitant to use her magic, because, well. It was kind of s**t and would be until she graduated into being a real senshi. Or at least, that was what Cuan had said.

But, Saiph read a lot and watched a lot of different stuff. Sure, a lot of it relied on cartoon logic, but if her choice was doing something strange or getting punched on, the choice seemed clear. She’d do whatever it took to not end up battered to heck and back.

And the shoulder slam, painful and stumbling as it was, was also an excellent opportunity to latch onto part of the girl’s uniform and bring her along for the ride. Throwing her own weight into it, Saiph pulled at the other girl and used her own momentum to shove her away. It wasn’t much, but it gave her time to at least get her feet planted more firmly under her. And to begin calculating the best possible moment to use her tiny magics to greater effect.

“Wouldn’t dream of it,” she snapped back, determined to not let anyone see how scared she was inside.

Not bad! Pushed back with a grunt, Brassite flashed a bright grin. And then she was springing forward again, one arm reaching out to grab and pull the girl into her other fist that was swinging for the senshi's gut.

It'd been awhile since she did something like this, and she could almost feel the frustrations and anxieties, the thoughts, begin to slough off of her like an old bit of skin, leaving her fresh and new.

And hungry.

The desire to move and connect and hurt started to well up.

Saiph saw the fist coming and could guess easily enough where it would land. The way they were both moving, there wasn’t much she could do to avoid being hit, but she could at least twist slightly so the blow landed on her side instead of her soft and squishy center. And it hurt. This wasn’t so fun anymore, she thought. Bringing up one foot, she kicked out, hoping to catch the officer in the shin, or even better, the knee. Just someplace that would even things up a little and give her a shot at getting away mostly intact.

Because, judging by the look in the officer’s eyes, Saiph was about to be in for a very bad time if she didn’t do something right now.

If I make it out of here, she thought, I am finding a self defense class and joining it.

Hissing through her teeth as the kick connected, Brassite felt her knee buckle slightly. Scowling and smiling for it, the lieutenant tried to hook her ankle around the other's, bring them both down for a down n'dirty tussle. But it proved a to be a big mistake, her own unsteadiness and the other's movement to distance herself left Brassite with her a** on the dirt and the other out of reach.

"Ugh," she groaned a bit and then smiled wider, irritated but also happy even as her hands stung with grit and gravel. She moved to start getting up, ready for another go and wary of another kick.

So many mixed messages, Saiph thought as she circled warily, keeping out of reach. If that girl got up, she wouldn’t stop and go home to lick her wounds. This was somebody driven, though by what, the chibi had no clue. Feeling her back prickle, she saw the other girl starting to move to get up. She was unsteady. That might work in Saiph’s advantage.

Keep her on the ground and frustrated, if possible.

She had to time this just right. The officer would be the most unsteady in the middle of getting up. So that was what Saiph waited for before calling her magic into being and hoping it would work.

“Tail thrash!”

Quote:
Sailor Scout Attack: Tail Thrash
Effects - Able to be summoned 3 times per battle and lasting for about 15 seconds each, Saiph is about to call up a faintly glowing energy shape that (seems unable to make up its mind if its an ancient fish, lizard or… other creature) delivers a blow to one enemy target. At this stage, it is the sensation of a shove and is capable of causing an enemy to stumble or possibly fall depending on where the blow lands.

In the middle of righting herself, Brassite barely saw the glowing...whip? Fish??? And the she was struck, crashing back down to the ground, already painful hands now stinging like a b***h. For a moment she just froze and then sprung up, faster this time and more animated, "Was that magic? Like magic magic? You little s**t, that's so cool!"

The mixed messages only increased with the attack.

The lieutenant was clearly favoring one foot instead of the other, probably turned an ankle a bit with one of the falls, but she still was lifting her fists, ready to keep fighting. Again she tried to close the gap, one hand reaching to grab the senshi's wrist, the other trying to grab for hair.

"How many times can you do that?" Brassite was still grinning. "Even if you win, I won't give it back no matter what, y'know?"

"You are very confusing," the words slipped out before Saiph could stop them. But it was the truth and if the officer didn't like it, oh well.

And how was she still so willing to throw down? She was favoring a foot and Saiph knew she'd scored a fairly direct kick to the girl's knee. What was driving her?!? Still, the chibi knew that she couldn't let the officer control the fight. Which was why she kissed common sense goodbye and dove at the other girl, determined to throw herself in behind any defenses. And if she could use the magic of physics to knock the girl down, then maybe, maybe she'd stay down.

"Why are you asking that? Why would I even tell you?" Saiph muttered. She would have said more, but the officer's next words made her go cold. The starseed. She'd nearly forgotten.

"Yes. I know," she said somberly, flashing back to a few nights ago when a corrupt senshi had warned her. Even the lieutenants could pull starseeds. Once again, she'd made a choice. For good or bad though, she couldn't say. If she just ran away, then she'd be a coward, but it might also be the only way to find help. Which would give the lieutenant (that had to be her rank) time to escape. But if she kept fighting, the only way she could win would be to somehow beat the other girl down and well... try to loot an unconscious body.

All bad choices. She couldn't see any good ones here.

Confusing? Brassite laughed as the other got in close to knock her back down, and gripped a handful of the senshi's hair to pull them both down together.

"I'm not confusing, I'm simple as ********." She seemed proud of that fact even as she did her best to make sure they both ended up a mess of limbs and dirt. "I feel like." a pant, "fightin' tonight, n'here you are! Right in front of me!"

It's not why she'd gone out, or anything she'd predicted would happen. But if somebody delivered a cake to your doorstep, have a slice! "So I get my lil fight, and you get revenge or whatever makes hurting me feel good, right?"

It's not like the Good Guys were gonna kill her, and she wasn't gonna kill some random a** girl just trying to be one of those good guys. The stakes were low, but the adrenaline was still pretty dang high.

She was crazy. Pure and simply crazy. Saiph wasn’t sure if the officer’s self-confessed simplicity was admirable or not. And as she felt fingers tangling in her hair and pulling she rapidly decided that she was in the Not camp.

Falling to the ground in a tangle was the least of her worries. She just wanted to try and figure out a way to rescue the starseed if she could. Though really, she wasn’t at all sure it was possible anymore. From what she’d gleaned over the years, there was only a very small window of time to restore a starseed before life simply... faded. And here was this crazy, crazy girl who didn’t seem to care about literally stealing someone’s life away because she liked fighting. It was complete insanity.

Letting out a noise somewhere between a growl and a sob, Saiph gave up on trying to get any leverage and flung out a fist, hoping to just get a hit in somewhere. She just wanted this to be over.

“Nothing about hurting you makes me feel good!” Saiph yelled, aghast at the thought of getting happiness from hurting people. “I just want to protect people and not hurt anyone!”

"Well that's just ********' sad then," Brassite gritted through the painful punch, the other girl was smaller, but she fought...also like a smaller person. Like she had to hit twice as hard to leave a mark. And boy did she. That was gonna definitely leave a good bruise for the nuns to tsk-tsk and tut-tut over.

But it was sad. The senshi seemed kinda...lost. Just going through the motions on instinct. At least Brassite could have fun fighting. And got paid for it. She could tell her general that she'd tussled with an Order senshi and probably get some headpats for it. What's this girl gonna get for her trouble? A couple of her own bruises. A dead body to feel bad about.

But what if Brassite gave her that starseed back? Gave the ******** a second chance at life? A second, third, fourteenth chance to ruin the lives of his family, of anybody unlucky enough to cross paths with him? She could keep track, after all that's what she'd been doing the past few weeks with Mimsy's help. She could keep track and one day, when the damage of one continued existence piled up enough and she met this girl again, deliver the results in a tidy manila envelope. This is the result of your one good deed, hun. You're welcome.

Grabbing, elbowing, and laughing, Brassite allowed herself that brief, self righteous bit of fantasy. "You're so ******** sad, and you don't even know it." She decided not to give it back. She wanted the man to stop for a reason, and harassing one random senshi months down the road wasn't a good enough reason to allow him all those extra chances he didn't deserve.

"He ain't worth it. So if you don't want revenge, just go." The lieutenant herself let go, panting, smiling, and offering a clean shot for the other to take or to take herself away and be sad elsewhere, by her lonesome.
