Cassia adjusted the strap of the heavy basket on her shoulder, its weight a reassuring presence against her back. It was filled to the brim with small, neatly sealed packages of tea, each carefully labelled with flowing script that detailed the blend and its benefits. The early morning sun cast a golden hue over the quaint village, the paths still damp with dew, reflecting the light in shimmering patches. The village was just waking up, with shopkeepers beginning to open their shutters and the distant sound of farm animals from the nearby fields. Today, she had decided, was a perfect day for her to introduce the villagers to the artful blends of teas she had painstakingly curated.
As she approached the first door, a small, ivy-encrusted cottage at the very beginning of the lane, Cassia felt a flutter of excitement mixed with nerves. She had always believed in the power of her teas to soothe, invigorate, and heal, but convincing others of their value was always a challenge. With a deep breath, she lifted the ornate knocker and let it fall, the sound echoing slightly in the quiet morning air. The door eventually opened to reveal a kindly old woman, her eyes bright with curiosity at the sight of a newcomer.
"Good morning," Cassia greeted, her voice steady and warm. "I hope I'm not disturbing you. I'm Cassia, and I've brought with me a selection of herbal teas from far and wide. Each blend is crafted with care, designed to bring comfort, energy, or relief depending on your needs." She paused, gauging the woman's reaction, before continuing, "May I show you some of my favourites?"
The woman's initial hesitation seemed to melt away as she nodded, stepping aside to allow Cassia into her home. Encouraged by the warm reception at the first home, Cassia continued down the lane, knocking on doors and greeting each new face with a smile. Some were skeptical, others curious, but all were intrigued by the young woman with her basket of teas. By midday, she'd taken a small beak before she headed to the next home where she once again knocked on the door and awaited for someone to open the door.

A knock at the door caused a bit of a scuffle inside the house where a raised voice echoed by a shriek of what anyone could assume to have been some sort of bird. A crash of something falling to the ground and shattering. More raised voices before everything settled down. Most people of the village often wandered away after hearing the noise, but a young leaf/wind dressed in a layered green dress. One that was blotted with what looked like flour and a smudge streaked across her cheek. "Hello?" She asked in a small voice, behind her a purple feathered streak was sprinting through the room behind her. "Soran, calm down, it's just someone at the door." The girl called over her shoulder as the streak slowed to show that it was a young Scorra. Its stubby wings giving a few flaps before settling back to its sides. Large eyes stared sidelong before tilting its head to one side and padding over. Curiosity taking over. The girl could merely shake her head before turning her attention back to the woman that stood at her parent's door. "Sorry about that, is there something I can help you with?"

As the door opened, Cassia couldn’t help but observe the scene with a mixture of amusement and curiosity as the young girl greeted her, her voice soft and apologetic. She couldn't help but smile at the sight of the Scorra, its curious demeanour reminiscent of a playful kitten.
"Oh, no need to apologize," Cassia replied warmly, her gaze shifting between the girl and the Scorra. "I hope I didn't startle you or the Scorra too much."
She took a moment to glance around the entrance, noticing the scattered remnants of whatever had caused the commotion earlier. "I'm Cassia," she introduced herself, offering a friendly nod. "I heard your family are talented bakers. I was thinking perhaps they might be interested in pairing some of their delicious baked goods with some unique tea blends I've been crafting."
Cassia gestured towards the small woven baskets she carried, filled with an assortment of colourful tea blends. "Would you mind letting them know? And if they have a moment, I'd be happy to answer any questions they might have about the teas. I thought it could be a nice collaboration, combining your family's baking expertise with my tea blends."

Aldara listened to the woman as she spoke of her mom's pastries and wanted to see about pairing them up with her own products? Tilting her head to one side a little she looked back over her shoulder. "My parents aren't here at the moment, but I can bring some outside if you'd like me to." Aldara said before she was bumped into from behind as the dark colored Scorra poked its head out around her to see what was going on. "Soran, behave." She warned the Scorra who was interested in the basket that Cassia was holding. "You'll have to forgive Soran, he does jump a little easily. And he gets very curious." She strained a little to keep the young Scorra from pecking at the tea packages that Cassia was carrying. Wrangling the Scorra back into the house, she managed to close the door with a little bit of a sigh. She was trying to train him to behave better, but being as young as he was it wasn't the easiest at times. Turning back to Cassia, Aldara gave a smile. "Name's Aldara, are they any pastries that you are specifically looking for? I have been helping with the baking this morning while my mother left to make a delivery. We have some Turnovers, small flaky muffins. " She started to list off before she paused. "Crap! The pie!" She turned quickly and threw open the door to rush inside, hoping Soran hadn't gotten at the pie on the sill.

Cassia watched with a mix of amusement and empathy as Aldara juggled the Scorra. The chaotic energy of Aldara's home felt warm, familiar in a way, because of her own upbringing on the farm with rowdy pets. As Aldara ushered her inside, presumably to rescue a pie from either disaster or a curious Scorra, Cassia couldn't help but smile and followed after her to have a look at the said pie.
Waiting patiently, she pondered over all the possibilities of pairing her teas with Aldara's family bakery goods. The turnovers and flaky muffins sounded like they could be an excellent match for some of her lighter, floral teas, perhaps something with lavender or chamomile. And for something richer, like a berry pie, a bold black tea or a spiced chai could complement it beautifully. Cassia was lost in thought, picturing the various pairings and the potential reactions of her customers.
“I’m not sure, does your family make all kinds of things? What are your best sellers? Could I taste things to offer the best pairing? I would pay of course for the samples.” She wasn’t trying to get a free meal or anything!

Aldara got to the kitchen to see a curious Scorra eyeing the pie as it sat cooling on the window sill. "Oh no you don't." Aldara said as she picked up the pie and placed it higher then the bird. "You will get your own later. This one is for guests." she told the bird who got distracted with something else and wandered off. "Really, you are getting too big to be in here. You should be outside with the rest of them." She said with a bit of a sigh. Turning her head towards the tea merchant as she asked some questions. "Best sellers are always to cookies. The chocolate and berry ones are always asked for. Mmmm." She paused to think. "Let me get Soran outside with the rest of the Scorra and then I can get you a few of our pastries." Aldara says before ushering the bird out the back door and towards the Scorra pens. She would let the bird into the closest pen and gave him something as a treat to keep him there. Reentering the house, she went to the kitchen pantry to look and see what they had. "Lets see... AH! Here we are." Aldara pulled out a small covered container from one of the lower shelves. Taking the lid off the container, inside were a neatly placed pastries. They looked like two small cake halves with a berry flavored filling in the middle(Think Macaroon). "There are these, I can also put on a kettle of water if you'd like to brew up some tea. I wouldn't mind giving some a try as well." She grinned taking the container over to a small table before reaching for a water pod to fill the kettle.

Cassia observed the scene with quiet amusement, admiring Aldara's gentle yet firm handling of the curious Scorra. She’d never had pets or animals really herself, after all, she’d been attacked when younger and her parents had made sure no animal ever got close to her again. Perhaps one day she’d have a pet of some kind, but until then she observed the ones others had.
As Aldara returned to the kitchen, Cassia's attention shifted to the enticing pastries she revealed from the container. The aroma of berries wafted through the air, tempting her taste buds and stirring a hunger she hadn't realized she had. "Those pastries look absolutely divine," she remarked, her voice filled with genuine appreciation.
"I would love to try some, thank you," Cassia said, her gaze lingering on the tempting treats. The prospect of enjoying them alongside a freshly brewed cup of tea sounded like a delightful way to unwind after the day's journey. “Do you mind if I try a small piece before I suggest a tea? That way I can better anticipate what kind of flavours I need to brew together.”

Aldara was bustling around the kitchen while her guest was talking. Placing the kettle on the stove she went back to the pastry closet and started fishing around for more things. Not at all, go ahead and sample. Let me see if there are any of my mom's famous cookies in here." Aldara said as she poked her head out of the closet. "AH! Here they are." Aldara said after a moment a couple of moments and took the container over to the table. Opening the container she pulled out a few chocolate and sugar stalk cookies. She placed these on a plate before returning to the pastry closet, well, pantry. She wondered what else she could find for her guest, though she didn't want to pull out too much from the start. "Think these are what we're going to start with. Mom took the muffins and cupcakes with her on her outing. The pie was a special order. Hope that is ok." Aldara asked a little worried that it wasn't going to be enough.

Cassia smiled, the house was filled with the comforting scents of freshly baked goods, making her stomach rumble softly in anticipation.
"Thank you so much," Cassia said, taking a small piece of the berry-filled pastry and savouring the burst of flavours. "These are absolutely delightful. Your mother's cookies look wonderful too." She took another moment to appreciate the spread before her, then reached into her basket and pulled out a few small pouches of tea.
"I think I have just the right blends to complement these treats," she said with a twinkle in her eye. "For the berry pastries, I have a light, floral tea with hints of lavender and chamomile that would really enhance the fruity flavours. And for the cookies, especially the chocolate ones, I think a bold black tea or a spiced chai would be perfect." Cassia carefully selected a few pouches and set them on the table.
"Why don't we brew a couple of these and see how they pair? I'd love to hear your thoughts and any feedback you might have. And don't worry, what you've offered is more than enough. I'm just grateful for the opportunity to share my teas with you."

As Cassia was speaking, the kettle that had been placed on the stove had begun to whistle. The water within had come to a boil and Aldara was quick to remove it from the stove and place it on a cozy on the table. She glanced at the packets of tea that were offered. "Those look like they'd be tasty. Just let me get a couple of cups." She said before heading to a cupboard to pull out a couple of tea cups and saucers. Reaching into a drawer she picked up a couple of small spoons before looking back over her shoulder. "Would you like sugar as well?"Aldara didn't know if sugar was used with tea or not. Her mother often used it with her black coffee in the morning. It gave just the right amount of sweetness to the black liquid, Aldara herself never understood why her mother liked the stuff. She had tried it once and she hated it. The bitterness was too much.

“Thank you,” Cassia said warmly. “But I prefer my tea without any additions. It allows me to really savour the flavours and appreciate the blends. However, feel free to add sugar if that’s how you like your tea.”
She selected a blend from her basket, one that she thought would complement the berry-filled pastries and cookies Aldara had set out. It was a delicate mix of white tea with hints of hibiscus and rose petals, light and fragrant with a subtle sweetness that she hoped would pair beautifully with the baked goods. Carefully, Cassia measured out the loose tea leaves into a small strainer and placed it in one of the cups. She poured the hot water over the leaves, watching as the liquid slowly turned a pale pinkish hue.
“This blend,” Cassia explained, “is one of my favourites. The white tea base is gentle and soothing, while the hibiscus and rose petals add a delicate floral note that enhances its natural sweetness. I think it will pair wonderfully with the berry pastries.”
The tea had steeped long enough, and Cassia carefully removed the strainer, placing it aside. She handed one of the cups to Aldara and took the other for herself. The tea’s colour was vibrant and inviting, and the floral aroma was even more pronounced now. Cassia took a sip, closing her eyes to fully appreciate the taste. The flavours unfolded on her tongue, delicate and complex, just as she had hoped. She opened her eyes and smiled at Aldara.
"What do you think?"

A flush washed over her face at the mention that Cassia didn't add sugar to her tea and preferred it straight. Truth was, Aldara had never had tea before. Her mother had the tea china, but never supplied tea to anyone, it was mostly coffee. Setting the sugar bowl down on the table with everything else she shrugged willing her face to not have the slightest tinge of red. "Never had tea before." She admitted openly, "Mom only really drinks coffee and that stuff is bitter no matter how much sweetener in it."She watched as Cassia picked through the packets in her basket to pull out one that had a faint floral scent to it. There was a sort of grace with how the tea leaves were released into the strainer and water poured over them. Roses and Hibiscus added to a white tea? She didn't know that there were colors to teas, this is what she got for being at home most the time. "Seems like you can have almost anything in tea." She commented as Cassia handed over one of the cups. The smell of the roses and other plant hit her in the face. While at first it made her nose scrunch up a bit, she eased off and looked down at what was in her hands. The pink of the tea almost made her not what to drink it, but what else was there for her to do with it otherwise? "Thanks," She smiled before taking a sip of it. The hot tea did scold her tongue at first, that would teach her to not blow on it first. That water had been piping hot after all. After puffing over the cup a couple of times to cool it down a little she took another sip. This time she was met with the floral taste of the tea. Aldara had no experience with tea tasting, she supposed it was good? It was certainly better than the black stuff her mother served. "This is good, a lot more light than the coffee mom likes." She continued to nurse at her tea before picking up one of the pastries. Taking a bite of it with the tea... Well it made her mouth explode in flavor that she wasn't sure where to start with anything.

Cassia smiled warmly at Aldara's admission, finding her honesty refreshing. "Tea can be a bit of an acquired taste," she said gently. "But I'm glad you're willing to give it a try. Coffee can be quite strong if you're not used to it, so tea might be a nice change."
"Yes, tea can be incredibly versatile," Cassia replied with a smile. "There are so many different flavours and combinations to explore. This one is quite mild and floral, a good starting point." She noticed Aldara's initial hesitation at the scent but hoped the experience would be a pleasant one. Cassia couldn't help but chuckle softly when Aldara took her first sip too quickly.
"Careful, it can be quite hot right out of the pot," she advised her tone gentle and understanding. As Aldara cooled the tea and took another sip, Cassia watched her reaction closely, hoping for a positive response.
"I'm glad you like it," she said, her smile widening. "Tea can be a nice, lighter alternative to coffee. It's wonderful with pastries too, as you've discovered." She took a sip of her own tea, savouring the familiar floral notes. "It's all about finding what you enjoy. There are so many varieties out there, I'm sure you'll find a few favourites in no time." Cassia felt a sense of satisfaction seeing Aldara enjoy the tea and pastries. It was a small thing, but sharing these moments and introducing someone to the simple pleasures of tea brought her a quiet joy.

"I may have to purchase some of this one off you. It might also be something that my parents will try. My father is always looking for new things, mom is always skeptical." She looked away a little towards the windows that laid open nearby. A warm breeze drifted into through the windows carrying the smells of the outside. She glanced back towards Cassia as she smiled at the tea merchant. "Do you have a set price on your teas? Or are you up for trading good for goods?" Aldara wanted to purchase the Rose and hibiscus tea from Cassia, also some others that she might have to offer. Something to try with her parents and perhaps even her own future family... There was also the fact that she would have to learn how to brew the tea. It looked simple enough, but it was hard to say when it has been in the water long enough to be considered tea. An almost dream like expression crossed her face as she thought of serving her husband tea after a day of work. Children running around teasing each other in some way or another. There would be laughter in the house and she'd be happy... "That would be perfect." She muttered to herself, though loud enough for those near to hear.

"A trade of goods for goods sounds wonderful," Cassia said. She was excited to get her hands on a few of these treats, not just for her customers but also secretly just for herself to enjoy. “But I do have a set price as well.”
"I have a few other blends that might pique your interest as well. Perhaps something with a bit more zest for your father and something calming for your mother?"
“And don't worry about the brewing process," she added reassuringly. "I'll make sure you leave here with all the knowledge you need to prepare the perfect cup of tea. After all, tea time should be a moment of peace and joy, not a cause for worry."
