Alexandre knew René liked to read, preferred books to the television and such, and had decided that the day after his birthday he would surprise René with a trip to the bookstore. That was why he was standing outside the others shop waiting for him to get off for the day - he was kidnapping the other.
A cup of espresso in hand for René at the ready, as well as a blindfold, he was waiting with a foot tapping as the blond was full of nervous energy as he looked at the watch on his wrist. Only a few more minutes and the other would be free for him to kidnap and do with as he pleased!
About damn time! He did not like waiting, even if it had only been three minutes since he’d arrived, he did not like to wait for things and waiting for René was not something he wanted to do! Done with tapping his foot, and huffing loudly, he yanked the door open and stepped inside. “René, you aren’t conducting business right now, right? I see no one in here and you are not doing anything - correct?” Brisk and to the point as he made his way right towards the counter and René. Holding out the offering of caffeine, the blindfold tucked away in his pocket, as he stared up at the other.

René had been going over the books for the day and making sure things were ready for tomorrow when Alexandre came into his shop. Looking up, he smiled and put everything away. “I just finished up with the accounting bit, making sure things are ready to go for the morning and a few pick ups I have coming in. You’re rather perky after last night, sorry if I gave you a scare with the bingsu place.” It hadn’t really been much of an issue but Alexandre was a lot less easy going about things than René was.
Taking the espresso, he walked around the counter and hugged the small blond. “I hope your classes went well, thanks for the espresso. Today dragged on a bit, I was wondering when you might pop in.” Taking a sip, it felt really good to get some caffeine in his system after the day had been so very uneventful. There had really only been a few customers and most of them had to set up appointments for pick up because they needed to rent a truck or U-Haul to move things. With luck they would bring movers as well, René was still a bit sore after the past few weeks of things.

“Only a little scared.” But he was like that, at least when it came to his family and partner, he worried about those he cared about and over did things. It was simply his nature, because he was someone who cared too much for those he was close to. To those he didn’t care about…the total opposite. Yet somehow he’d cared enough about René from the moment he’d run into the other
“Classes were fine, easy even.” He admitted with something of a shrug, a small barely there gesture, as he glanced up at the other. “Accounting..book work…tell me it’s done and you can leave for the day. Or, if need be, you can take it with you and do it at home.” His home, though he didn’t say as much, because he had plans for a surprise and he needed the other to be done.

Leaning down, he kissed their cheek. “Well I’m alright, it’s okay. Just was a bit itchy was all.” Laughing a bit as he grabbed the keys off the counter and pulled the other along. “I got everything done, I just have to come in a little earlier before opening tomorrow for some pick ups so they can get a truck in before the street fills up with cars.”
“I’m glad classes went well though, it was so very boring without you here today.” Teasing a bit as he pulled them outside before turning off the lights and locking up. “So what’s the plan for tonight? I need to head home since it’s a work night but we can do something before I go? Maybe get dinner, since you already got my espresso?”

I’m off tomorrow so I’ll join you, and help out in the morning.” Because he could really use something to do after his morning run. But also it would be time well spent, he figured. “We’re taking my car, if I need to I’ll drop you off at your car after what I’ve got planned.” Smiling he pressed his lips to the others in a quick peck.
“Ok, so why don’t we get to my car.” The suv was parked in a paid lot, he was not about to risk the meter maid in the area, Alexandre was not interested in risking a ticket for his car being parked at the sidewalk. The walk to the car lot was quick though, so he didn’t need to be outside for long, and he didn’t mind paying for the time he’d been parked as he easily could afford it. “I have a surprise planned for you…and I’m not about to say anything to you about it - no hints.” One hand in his pocket fingering the bit of silk blindfold he had tucked away.

“That’ll be nice, I look forward to it. Just a few dressers and tables heading out in the morning with customers then it should just be walk-ins throughout the day. I don’t think I’ll be needing to do much of the moving if they bring movers with them too.”
Nodding, he followed the other along after shooting a look off towards his car to make sure there wasn’t a ticket on it. He had a parking pass but that meter maid was heartless if it wasn’t fully visible. “I wonder what you’re whisking me away for this time, are you sure there’s no hints?” Teasing them as he got into their car and settled in.

“No, not a single hint.” He stated with all seriousness, shooting the other a look, it wasn’t until they were both in his car that he leaned right over and without warning, or a spoken word, that a blindfold came out of his pocket and was slipped right over the eyes and face and into place. “As I said, it’s a secret.” As if this said it all really, and it sort of did, nothing said secret like a blind fold to keep you from seeing whatever the surprise was.
Settling back into his seat and starting the car up Alexandre was pleased with himself as he glanced over to the other. “It won’t be a long drive, I just don’t want you seeing where we’re going.” Though he was certain René’s mind would wander to places it wasn’t meant to go, or at least nothing that had to do with his surprise, he felt like he knew the either well enough to be certain of this.

“Boo.” Huffing, he changed his tune as soon as the blindfold came over his eyes. “Oh.. I think I like this surprise already.” Clicking his piercing against his teeth as he reached over to trace his fingers over their thigh. “Well if it’s not far I’m excited to see what happens next.”
Leaning back in his seat, he wondered where they would be heading if it wasn’t far. There was a lot in the area though the other didn’t seem like the type to whisk him off to a hotel. They hadn’t seen his apartment yet either and he hoped to keep it that way for now so it wasn’t that, probably.

Biting down on his bottom lip, and not just to keep from laughing, he knew the other's mind would go right where it seemed to have gone. Rolling his eyes Alexandre shook his head after a moment, though he did place one of his hands over René’s. “You really shouldn’t distract me while I’m driving.”
Where they were headed was a bookstore, a really large one, it wasn’t Barnes and Noble but rather another bookstore which sold the popular books on the first floor but it was on the other three floors where older, classics, and odd books were found. He’d gone looking for bookstores to take René to as he knew the other preferred reading to watching tv, and he’d wanted to do something other than a Barnes and Noble trip. Thankfully parking wasn’t too bad, he was just down the block from the place, as he had a feeling René would be getting a lot of books.
Once he was parked he slid the others hand off his thigh and leaned over to peck him on the cheek. “Stay, I’ll be around to help you out.” Slipping out of the car he headed around to René’s side and opening the door he moved to help the other out, positioning himself to hold the others weight, as he closed and locked the car door. “You’re going to have to lean on me till we get there, I’m not taking the blindfold off sooner.” According to the reviews the place had character, lots of choices, and nothing really bad had turned up on the place. So he was taking the chance, as he’d never been here, and was hoping for the best.

“I’ll be good, don’t want to end up in the dog house.” Smiling a bit, he held their hand instead and laced his fingers with theirs. It didn’t take long, just like they’d said and René waited for them to open the door. Laughing a bit, he wrapped an arm around their waist and moved in close.
“I can do that, I’m still curious what you’re planning.” Leaning his head on top of theirs, he let them lead to wherever they were taking him. It could be anywhere to be honest but the blindfold was an interesting touch, it wasn’t like he knew where anything was in the city still. There were only a handful of shops he had time to visit between working and dealing with the craziness that seemed to plague this city in winter.

René might not know the city, thus not knowing where they were going, but Alexandre didn’t want him to catch sight of the location the moment they parked. The place wasn’t exactly small, it was four floors of a bookstore. Moving them both to avoid someone, who was busy on their phone and not looking up as they walked, he finally reached the place while muttering about idiots and cell phones. Reaching for the door handle he opened the door to the shop and led them both inside.
The place smelled as you’d expect and he was reaching up, on tiptoes, to remove the blindfold now. Settling back onto his feet at the others side. “You do prefer books, as I know, so this is a shopping spree for you. Whatever you want, as much as you want, it’s on me.” As he said this he was pulling out his wallet and handing over his bank card, he really did mean it. This was certainly not his sort of place, though he might find a book or two for himself if he tried, he was looking about for a place to sit perhaps. This very well might take some time, he was certain it would in fact.

That familiar smell, of paper and ink, hit him as they passed through the door of whatever place Alexandre had brought him. Opening his eyes as the blindfold came off, he looked around at rows and rows of books. Ahead, he could see stairs leading to an upper and lower floor as well. The bank card that was being offered didn’t register at first as the grandness of the store settled into him. Placing his hand on it, he pushed it back towards their wallet. “Hold onto it, I wouldn’t want to drop it or lose it. God… this is gorgeous Alexandre.”
Roaming through the aisles, he wanted to see everything the store had to offer before starting to grab things. This floor seemed to be things that were in regular circulation but he still looked to see how new the newest books were. Fingers tracing down a few things here and there, he kept glancing over to make sure he didn’t lose the other in his excitement. There was so much to see and once he’d circled the first floor, he started up the steps to the second.

Pocketing his card, he understood the others' reason, he trailed behind him and watched. A smile had taken up residence on his face as he enjoyed watching René. “It looks like my sudden idea was a rather good one.” Up the steps he followed, for now he would follow the other, as René seemed entranced. Touching things in a gentle manner the Frenchman seemed pleased with what he was seeing. “The place has good reviews - really good.” It was why he’d decided on this place
“I know you weren’t expecting this, but I couldn’t have you seeing us pulling up to this shop, I wanted it a secret for you.” Because he wanted to see this - the others' excitement to be here. He wanted the surprise and to savor it himself. He liked to do things for others - to give things…gifts. He was known for gift giving in his family and in a relationship as well.

"A very good one." Eyes wandered over shelf after shelf of older works, unlike the first floor this floor had older used books. Standing just at the landing, he only waited long enough for Alexandre to catch up before he continued pouring over the books. This floor went a lot slower and he already broke his rule about not grabbing things before seeing the whole store.
Tracing fingers over the worn and well-loved spines of the used books, René started to pull a few books here and there and tuck them under his arm. A few of them were in French but the majority of them were in English. Pausing here and there, his eyes continued scanning as his mind wandered to how much space he had on that shelf they'd purchased for him the other day.
After a few more rows, the problem started to become apparent, he didn't have enough hands to carry the things he wanted to get. Looking over the top of the shelves, René looked to see if there were baskets or anything of the like to help along with his issue. It didn't seem like there were any on this floor and he couldn't remember if there had been any on the ground floor either. So he made due by shuffling things around in his arms and slowed down a bit on what he was thinking of grabbing.
Peeking over at Alexandre occasionally, René wondered if they would grab anything for themselves. He'd never really seen them read anything, mostly just watch the TV or something on his computer. It got him wondering what kind of stories they liked as well, though the things they had told him were wild enough tales that he'd almost thought that they were lies until he'd experienced it himself.

Seeing the others issue with the books, and his full hands, Alexandre stepped forward and reached for some of the books. Taking them into his own arms he stepped back and headed back down the stairs slowly, he was certain he'd seen a stack of shopping baskets, so that was what he sought on the first floor. Finding the basklets the ashen blond grabbed one, placing the books into the basket, and grabbing another empty basket he headed back up stairs.
"Rene, I got you a basket." He spoke softly, making his way slowly to the others side. He stood there offering the empty basket while he held the other one. "I already feel for whoever will be ringing us up." Laughing softly as he glanced about. Alexandre felt like Rene would be visiting this place ratehr often, once he finished the books he was getting today, as it seemed to appeal to the other completely. He'd done a good job and picked out the perfect idea for the other as a gift. He was pleased with this.
