The Shops (5): If you’re looking for thoughtful, heartfelt gifts to commemorate your day or just gifts for someone (or yourself!) you don’t need to go far. A large, indoor vending space is set up with a great array of local shops willing to spend their time here. There’s such a great array of things to find here–all handmade or locally sourced and owned. Jewelry, accessories, outfits, candles, cards, sweets, home decor–there’s a little bit of everything, just waiting to find a new home. Take some time to appreciate the sales, and get some good deals while you’re here! The Event is also selling an array of special memorabilia where proceeds go towards their list of charities; you can purchase crystal flowers like those from the Garden.
Holland wasn't expecting to be out today, but he figured with Valentines around the corner he could do something special for Yuki. He had some things planned out already (it was going to be a surprise) but he was also looking to get some early gifts to share. Apparently he was set to DJ in the event hall, so he did send a message to his phone to make sure it was okay for him to stop by whenever he had a break. He was waiting in the shops area with a small crystal rose in his hand. He used some fancy paper to decorate the holder for it and he hoped that he wasn't being all cheesy or anything like that. Romance was still a new concept to him and frankly he figured he was the lucky one out of the two of them in terms of having an awesome boyfriend.
Spotting a head full of messy hair that was surprisingly hatless, Holland made his way through the throng of people, hiding the rose behind his back. Once he was close enough he stood in front of Yuki with a bright smile on his face. “Well hello there~”
----
Despite how much he enjoyed his usual DJ sets, winding a crowd up into a frenzy with his beats, Yukio was having quite a good time playing downtempo, ambient chillwave music at the Crystal Hearts Gallery event. With the volume lower and the bass not shaking the delicate crystal flowers throughout the Event Hall, he was setting the right atmosphere for the visitors to partake of the wares in the shops. Besides, it was a rare excuse for him to wear a tuxedo.
He'd been going for awhile now, though, so he figured he could take a break for a few minutes and maybe actually see the exhibits. Maybe he could also peruse the vendors here in the shops and get something for Holland. He felt his heart skip a beat just thinking about his boyfriend and he blushed faintly. Holland was so very special to him, so cute (so very cute) and lively, a ball of energy in a tiny body. Yukio never imagined things would turn out like this – how a fleeting "accidental kiss" in the snow could become a passionate romance. He was learning things about himself as well that he would never have discovered otherwise, all thanks to Holland.
Allowing himself a small smile, he looked up from his decks, blinking. Was that a glimpse of pink hair amongst the shoppers? He stepped out from behind his DJ setup and took a few steps to see better. If it was in fact Holland, he wasn't sure his boyfriend would recognize him without a hat, with his hair down, and wearing a tux. But it was, and he did, and Yukio was delighted for it.
"Hello there yourself, Hol," he greeted, lowering his ever-present little round shades just enough for his eyes to show over the tops. "Got your message, of course. What brings you here?"
----
Being 4’11 with a 6’2 boyfriend made giving a kiss on the cheek pretty hard. So instead of climbing Yuki like a tree (which he would do at his apartment usually), Holland grinned and brought the crystal rose to the forefront. “I wanted to give you this~ I-It's in celebration of valentines day.” There was a slight blush to his cheeks, “Yano, just in case we can't do anything, I wanted to get you something.” Hopefully he didn't sound like an idiot…Did he sound like one? “I also wanted to come by to listen to your music and maybe see about getting you some more presents.” He fully intended on getting Yuki more than just a crystal rose, but he at least wanted to make sure he got him something small for now.
----
Yukio blinked, looked at the crystal rose, and blinked again. "You didn't," he finally said in disbelief, gently taking the delicate object from his boyfriend's fingers. Leaning over, he kissed Holland on the cheek, murmuring "I love you" into his ear before straightening and studying the rose. It was exquisite, as to be expected of the craftspeople who made the displays for the gallery showing; absolutely flawless, as if a real rose had been turned into crystal.
"I've… never gotten a gift like this before," he said softly. "No one has ever given me flowers or a gift or anything. You thought to do this… I'm still in shock." Yukio gave Holland a slight smile, the complete adoration he felt for the smaller man reflected in his golden-yellow eyes. "I mean, I'll make sure we do something on Valentine's Day itself – don't know what yet, but I'll make sure of it."
----
Holland stiffened and looked off to the side with a face redder than any rose, feeling shivers go down his spine when Yuki whispered in his ear. He promised himself that he was not going to “Holland” as everyone liked to say, so he cleared his throat, looking at his feet while giving a quiet “You're welcome” and “Love you too” But then hearing Yuki’s admitting that no one has brought him a gift or anything shook him out of his embarrassed state, “Wait what?! No one?! Not even for your birthday?!” Well that just didn't sit right with him at all…This would have to be something that he looked into and hopefully rectified.
Maybe he could surprise his boyfriend on Valentines day with something? There was an idea already forming in his head and he couldn't wait to get things set up. “I’ll try something too!” Holland pulled Yuki down so that they were at the same level, tugging those awesome shades down so he could look at those pretty amber eyes. “S-Sorry in advance.” He put his hands in his hair, gently locking their lips together. He didn't do anything too over the top because he was sure no one needed to see that, but Yuki just made him want to kiss him continuously. “Your eyes are extremely dangerous, you know that right?”
----
"My birthday is too close to Christmas," Yukio said with a wry little smile. "And my parents are nerds and forget sometimes."
He allowed himself to be pulled down closer to Holland, and when his boyfriend laced his hands in Yukio's long blue hair and gave him the most tender, loving kiss he'd ever gotten from him, he practically melted on the spot. Reaching up with one hand, he held Holland's head as they kissed. He could hear a couple of people going "Awww! Isn't that sweet!" and felt oddly gratified; it was pretty clear that everyone could see how close he and Hol were, how much they loved each other. It was the most romantic thing ever.
As they reluctantly broke off the kiss, Yukio touched his forehead to Holland's, looking into those wide adorable teal eyes. "I know. Why do you think I wear shades all the time?"
----
To be honest, Holland thought that Yuki just liked the look of the shades on his face, which admittedly was a nice fashion choice either way. But now that he thought about it, it made sense considering when they first met, just that small peek of amber sent him to the back of the store with the most embarrassing blush ever. Frankly he didn't want to go shopping anymore, he wanted to go back to Yuki’s apartment and just be in his bubble continuously. However he was aware (at least partially) that Yuki made a commitment. That didn't mean he wasn't going to try and entice him to leave early for the day though.
“Sure you have to be here for as long as you said?” He could always come back tomorrow for his shopping, if he does not find things elsewhere.
----
Yukio straightened and looked around the Shops area, watching people peruse various items offered for sale. "I think I promised another hour, but… It's tempting," he admitted, brushing Holland's pink fringe from his face. "I could just pack up and come back tomorrow. I don't think anyone would mind."
He gave his boyfriend one of his rare, genuine smiles. "Besides, as much as I enjoy wearing the tux and all, it makes me feel a little stiff and formal. I'd rather just go home and get into my lounge pants and put on a hat and crawl under the kotatsu and code and make music happen. With you." Bending, he gave Hol a little kiss on the top of his head. "We could grab something to eat or order pizza or something and just be together. Yeah, I think I'd like that," he nodded.
"And I'll get you a retaliatory gift tomorrow, too." Raising an eyebrow, he held the crystal rose to his nose.
