The Crystal Garden (2): The Crystal Garden takes up the majority of the Event Hall and is an expansive collection of hand crafted crystal flowers created specifically for this event. The garden is impressive and magical; while there is little effort to make identical replicas of the flowers used for inspiration, each cut of crystal seems to capture the light and make the flowers glow. Many of the flowers are easy to recognize and are true to life in size and shape, but there are sections of the garden with flowers that come in fantastical sizes and shapes. It feels like stepping into another world. During the daytime, the natural light from the glass windows and sunroof makes it easy to see fine details, and when the sun goes down, the artificial lighting spreads beautiful rainbow prisms across the ground and walls. No matter what time of day you visit the garden, you’re guaranteed a beautiful sight. There are several locations specifically designed for photographs you can take on your own, but the venue has also hired professional photographers to help you capture yourself in the moment.
Cynthia and Jason had already done their Valentine’s celebration and he had gone out to get a couple of more needed things done before they met back together tonight, which gave her plenty of time to visit the gallery and look at all of the crystals in the Crystal Garden. AND she was allowed to take pictures of it! In certain spots at least, but still, she couldn’t pass the opportunity up! Although she preferred more natural flowers, crystal wasn’t bad and could certainly be pretty. Perhaps she would be able to buy one as a souvenir?
She had made her way into the gallery, hoping that she was going at a time of day when it wouldn’t be too crowded. She could get in before the dinner rush and make it out and have a romantic home-cooked meal at the apartment that she shared with Jason. That way they could both stay way from the crowd that was bound to take over the entire city. As much as she liked being outside, there was still a limit to how many people she wanted to be around at the same time.
So she had decided to go in the afternoon, after the sun was in the middle of the sky but not to the point where it was setting and she couldn’t help but gasp and be just a bit jealous at the artistic ability of all of those who had donated. And that was why she was going to do her best in taking photos of all of the crystal flowers and other artistic pieces that littered the garden.
It took her at least an hour, figuring out the best lighting spots, finagling with her camera, taking picture after picture and double checking those pictures to make sure that they turned out the way she wanted them to. As good as a tool photoshop was, she didn’t like to edit her photos that much, unless it was something like combining multiple photos into one or something. She didn’t begrudge those who did use it, she just liked to make it as natural as possible.
And she hoped that these photos were good enough! Sure, she was majoring in photography and she was still working on her final album, but she could definitely say that these were good enough to add into it. She even thought she might frame some of them! Still it was now time for her to go and she couldn’t wait to talk about the garden when she met back up with Jason. Perhaps they could both go and see it later if they were up for the crowds. They both knew that towards the end it would be even more crowded than when it opened as everyone else who had been unable to or were too lazy to go earlier would then be going.
Still, even if they didn’t, it was a good experience and she was glad to have seen it in person, even if she saw it most of the time through her camera lens.
