He stood on the rooftop, top hat tucked away in subspace where his coat would go when they started. It was a bit cold to simply be standing in a sweater vest on a rooftop while he waited though.
He looked to the little pocket watch attached to his pants wondering where his girlfriend was.
So she was a bit late, but only because her mother was giving her the fifth degree about staying out late and giving her things to protect herself. Pez loved her mom to the moon and back, but all the stuff she was trying to give her was just going to stay in her car or she would put it in subspace. She cant tell anyone what her “nighttime job” was, so it’s hard not to tell her mom “chill I have this big a** candle stick I can hit people with”. Instead she told her mom that she's been boxing since forever and is pretty sure she can take care of herself.
Fast forward to now and she was just teleporting to the side of her boyfriend, hat and coat removed. “Sorry sorry, mom was being…Mom.” She gave him a once over, “Ready to go?” They had been at this for a while so there was no need to go over basics, just implement all that she taught him in real time.
Hatter wasnt expecting her to teleport, especially knowing to zapped their energy to do you. “You really should conserve your energy Pez. Dont teleport just because you can, you never know what could happen, but its fine and yes Im ready.”
He pulled his coat off and tossed into subspace before taking a stance, one she taught him and fussed at him about the first few times they’d done this. “What do you want to do tonight? I think Ive got blocking down, so what next?”
Pezz rolled her eyes, “Yes daddy I promise to conserve my energy.” She shook her head, getting into her ready stance, “Well, now we just put everything into a real scenario. I want to teach you grappling but I doubt that you will have an opening for that in real-time combat.” So with that being said, she charged forward, going for a nice right hook.
Hatter gave Pez a flat look and rolled his eyes right back at her, “don’t be an a** dear.” Let it not go unsaid, that dating did not change the nature of their friendship. They still got on each other's nerves wholly on purpose. It was an Ever and Annie thing and it wasn't changing anytime soon. They were still ********,” he said as she charged him and he tried to dodge, causing the punch to catching his shoulder. He needs to work on his reaction time. He shuffled back, taking his stance once more, but not going on the offensive, okay with defending for now. He needs to improve at both aspects of fighting anyway.
That was something she absolutely loved about their relationship. It didn't change because they were dating, it stayed the same with extra benefits. “Gotta be faster babe.” She didn't hesitate, coming back at him from the left instead, giving him the quick and precise jabs boxing was good for. She did manage to hold back on the strength portion though, she wasn't trying to punch him into the cosmos.
Hatter didn't try to dodge this time, instead blocking as best as he could. It still hurt, but at least it wasn't a body shot and he had more chances to counter, trying a right hook of his own and making sure to follow through with his body, but not so much that he threw himself off.
He didn't respond to his girlfriend's comment needing to focus. He hoped to get to the point where it felt more natural, wondering if maybe he should go to the gym with her … Hara and Ash too. He guessed the a*****e that stabbed his sister too. It still ticked him off, but at least he wasn’t paired with the basterd.
Pezz was proud of her boyfriend, blocking his counter but also giving him a look of approval. Just to see if he would be able to, she went for a quick uppercut, preparing herself to block whatever he would throw at her.
Hatter shuffled back to avoid the uppercut, not wanting a bruised face or to potentially bite his damn tongue off. He didn't think Pez would hit him too hard, but she was a boxer and her throws held a lot of power. He darted forward and threw a couple of alternating jabs trying to throw Pez off some.
“Think I'm getting the hang of this, a little.” He still needed a lot of practice, but he felt like he was getting his footing so to speak.
So instead of dodging, Pezz tried to see if she could do something other than dodge, opting for trading blows with Hatter instead. However the consequence to this was the fact that he indeed did throw her off. She took a hit, and stumbled, laughing. “Good! Let's keep going!” She went for some more jabs, intent on dodging this time. Maybe when Hatter became good enough, then they could truly throw punches like they did in DBZ or Jojo. The thought made her almost burst out laughing, imagining her and Hatter acting like super saiyans with all the screaming and gold hair.
When she fought back instead of dodging or blocking, Hatter’s rhythm was thrown off and after taking multiple blows he had to switch to blocking. It wasn't exactly easy to spare against someone so much more experienced and if he was honest he was already getting tired, still he kept going.
He tried throwing a cross, followed by a jab and continuing with an uppercut. Did he know what he was doing, no? Was he going on the offensive and trying to just not think too much about it, yes! His ribs were sore and his hands ached a bit, but he definitely felt a little more accomplished each time they did this, even if he wasn't necessarily good.
Pezz grinned, he was starting to get it! Instead of being on guard all the time, which worked but if you want to knock your opponent out faster, being on the offensive or at least being able to switch between the two is what would be needed. She was starting to get a bit tired as well but wanted to make sure they both got the best workout and that Hatter would learn more things to apply in real time from now on going forward. She barely dodged the cross, decided to block his jab, and pushed down his uppercut, jumping away to wipe the sweat forming on her face. There was nothing like a good ******** spar to get cardio going and it would keep her on her toes.
Hatter played soccer so he was pretty used to running around, but not the full body workout that boxing was. He huffed shuffling on his feet to try to avoid whatever Pez decided to throw at him next, but he was slowing down and he could definitely tell.
“I think I could use a short break babe, and we will have to gather energy.”
It was probably best if they didn't exhaust themselves either should they run into trouble.
