Today was going to be a good day! He was in charge of the tavern as a test that he could handle the flow of customers. The early hours were wearing on his nerves as he hadn't ever thought he would be left alone. He worried about things like getting drinks wrong, serving things that were not prepared correctly. Wringing out a rag in his hands he looked at the Averin that laid on the corner of the bar.

"I don't know how you can be so carefree. Seriously, this is a serious place." he told the bird that yawned at him before rubbing its face with a clawed foot. "You still need a name, even being the mascot of this tavern, you are nameless."

The bird stared at Owaen with large amber eyes before it rolled over and curled up to sleep again. Its colorful plumage standing stark against the dark wood of the bar. Off to one side of the tavern the fireplace was ablaze with life of its own as flames crackled off the wood in the hearth. Heaving a sigh, Owaen stepped out from behind the bar and over towards the large window and took hold of the sign that hung upon it.

"Well here goes nothing," He said over his shoulder to the sleeping bird. With that he flipped the closed sign to Open and retreated back towards the bar. Not knowing what to expect to come through the doors.

Ziel glanced nervously around the bustling tavern, her heart pounding with anticipation. Today was the day she had decided to step out of her comfort zone and try alcohol for the first time. She’d heard about it from friends and was curious about some of its effects. Some of her friends reported good feelings while others seemed to get quite unpleasant when they were drunk. It would be interesting to see what kind of “drunk”, if she even ade it to that point, she would be after a few drinks.

As she approached the bar, she couldn't help but feel a surge of nerves coursing through her veins. She hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to proceed. She fidgeted with the hem of her dress, her fingers betraying her nervousness. Ziel took a seat on an empty stool. She cleared her throat, trying to catch the bartender's attention amidst the din of the tavern. A few of the patrons had already moved over a bit once they’d seen what she looked like.

"Um, excuse me," she called out tentatively, hoping to be heard over the clamor. "Could I, uh, get a drink?" That’s how it worked right?

Owaen was pouring an ale from a large Keg that laid on a shelf at the back of the bar. Setting said mug onto the bar he shoved it down towards the one who had ordered it. The building had become very lively with those coming off night shifts looking for a drink before heading off home. He worried about some of them as they drank far too much sometimes. Shaking his head and running a hand through his bright orange hair before he caught a glimps of someone new at the bar.

This person was new and he gave a glance at those that made room for her at the bar. He hoped that these ruffians wouldn't cause trouble on his first day alone. Wiping his hands off on a half apron, Owaen stepped over before the woman who called out.

"Of course, what can I get you?" Owaen asked as he smiled warmly at the woman. "Also don't mind the others in here. Most are harmless." While this was supposed to be reassuring, just his wording might suggest other wise.

"Oh I'm not worried," she said with a toothy grin. She was much more nervous about trying the alcohol than the other patrons at the bar. She was used to the stares and the looks and they didn't bother her anymore.

"I'm new here, what's your best drink? Or well maybe not the best drink..." Ziel thought for a moment. "Something you'd give beginners at drinking maybe?" That didn't sound right either.

"Let me start over, I've never drank before but I'd like to give it a try. What do you recommend?" There, he was a bartender surely he would know the best approach to this!

Owaen gave a nod, hoping that this would be true. Some patrons of the tavern could get quite rowdy and things were thrown about the room. But that had yet to happen this day, everything was still in one piece. The brightly colored Averin stretched from its perch at the corner of the bar. Scratching at the padded top with its claws as it stretched, it peered over those in the Tavern.

"A newbie huh?" he said not so much as a question, but a comment. "Well, there is a hard cider on keg tonight. There is also ale and beer." He paused a moment as he looked at what he had. "There are also mixed drinks, but for a beginner. I would suggest a hard cider." Owaen offered, not wanting to cause harm from the start.

At this time the Averin had dropped from its perch and onto the bar. It's green and yellow plumage throwing color against the dark wood. The showboat of the bird wandered over toward Ziel and looked up at her with bright amber eyes. Giving a chirp, it pawed at her looking for attention.

"You're the bartender so I trust your judgment!" Ziel made a flourish with her hand. "A hard cider it is." She hadn't no clue as to what a hard cider was, but if that's what newbies tried than that's what she was going to try as well.

Something colorful caught her attention and she turned towards the bird. Her face lite up, she had no idea they'd allow pets in the tavern!

"Is he or she yours? What's its name?" It made her think that she should get some kind of companion to join her on her travels. It would be a little less lonely if that was the case.

Her mother was a rider after all and she seemed really happy with her partner in crime. However, that was a thought for another day. Ziel extended her hand towards the bird, offering it when it sought her attention, to give it some good scratches.

Owaen have given a nod as he picked up a mug from beneath the bar. Turning he walked over to one of the kegs and pulled the handle to release the cider from within. When the mug was nearly pull he closed the keg and placed the mug on the counter in front of the woman. That was when he noticed the Averin who was seeking attention from his customer.

Here you go, one hard Cider." Owaen said before looking at the Averin. "It belongs to the tavern. It has no name at the moment, still have to come up with one. I always call it lazy bird. Never does much and seeks attention from anyone and everyone."

The Averin glanced at Owaen before stretching and rubbing its head against Ziel's hand for scritches. Bright green wings fluffed out in pleasure as it was getting attention, even its yellow plumed tail fluffed out to look larger then it really was. It didn't mind being an attention seeker, as long as it made others happy.

Ziel accepted the mug with a grateful nod, taking a sip and savouring the crisp taste of the cider on her tongue.

"Thank you," she said, offering him a warm smile before turning her attention to the Averin who had captured her interest. She was drawn to the bird's playful antics and was more than happy to give it the attention it sought.

She took another sip of her cider, she couldn't help but be pleasantly surprised by its flavour. The crispness of the apple mingled with subtle hints of sweetness, creating a delightful combination that danced across her palate. She savoured each sip, relishing the sensation as it washed over her taste buds.

Turning her attention back to Owaen, Ziel couldn't contain her curiosity. "Is all alcohol as pleasant as this?" she asked, her tone filled with genuine interest.

If the other options were anything like the cider she was currently enjoying, she could see herself becoming a regular patron of taverns. She made a mental note to explore more of the tavern's offerings in the days to come, eager to discover new flavours and experiences.

"Hm?" Owaen glanced over towards the woman as she sipped at the cider. Granted it wasn't the most alcoholic that there was in the tavern. It was perhaps one of the lightest. There were many stiffer drinks out there. "I am not sure. I am not a drinker myself. Not old enough either for that matter." He grinned a little. "But some of the patrons can surely tell you more. I have had some complain about the beer not tasting the greatest, but it was something to get them drunk off their rocker as their saying goes." Owaen gave a shrug as he had picked up a mug he had freshly washed and started wiping it dry.

His attention went towards the Averin that was just about purring as it had pretty much gained all the attention it could from the woman. Backing up a little, it sat up on its hide quarters and stretched its front paws into the air. Wings helping to keep its balance, the critter soon bounded off towards another table. Wings a flap as it wove between people to its new perch beside the window. Kneading at the pillow atop the perch it settled down in the sun that was shining through the window.

"Looks like it got all the attention it could take in." He chuckled before setting the clean mug onto another shelf behind him. "Anything else I can get you? We have a menu if you'd like anything to eat to go along with the cider." He gestured to one of the chalkboards near the bar that listed a few things.

Menu:

Braised steak with potatoes and mixed Veggies.
Honey glazed Impa rump with custom's choice of Sides.
Fillet of fish with potato wedges on the side.

Ziel's eyes followed the Averin's departure with a twinge of sadness, feeling a pang of disappointment as the colourful bird bounded off to seek out the company of the sun instead. She had grown quite fond of the little creature in the short time it had been with her, and its sudden departure left her feeling unexpectedly lonely. Though she couldn’t really blame him could she, there was nothing better than bathing in the sun. Ziel remembered her sun-filled days on the beach with her parents. She took another sip of her cider, hoping to distract herself.

Her attention returned to Owaen as he spoke, his words drawing her back to the present moment. She couldn't help but be surprised by his admission that he was not old enough to drink, a fact that she hadn't anticipated given he worked at a tavern. Surely one must need to taste the alcohol to be able to make recommendations. Though what did she know about this kind of thing?

"How old are you, if you don't mind me asking?" Ziel inquired, her curiosity piqued.

As she awaited his response, Ziel glanced at the menu, she considered her options for a moment before making her decision.

"I'll have the fillet of fish with potato wedges on the side., please," she said, her mouth watering at the thought of a hearty meal to accompany her cider. "And perhaps a refill on this cider as well, if you don't mind."

"I'm only 17, I will be a year older soon enough." He answered as he continued cleaning up around the bar area, the crowds thinning out a bit as some head for home and others head off to work. "No need to worry, I have been working around here since I was younger." He shrugged as if it weren't a big deal.

Owaen wrote down the order before passing it through a small window speaking to whom ever was on the other side. There was a laugh from the back room before the sounds of sizzling meat could be heard. The smell of cooking fish and potatoes wafted into the air.

"That should be up in a few minutes. Refill coming up." He said picking up a fresh mug and pouring another serving of Cider and placing it down before the woman.

Moving down the line to pick up a few empty mugs that were on the counter. These were brought to a small sink just behind the bar where he set to cleaning them. There was always something to do, work was never done.

Ziel listened intently as Owaen revealed his age, feeling a sense of wonder at his age and his work ethic. At just 17 years old, he carried himself with a maturity she rarely saw in other young teens. Herself included. She couldn’t even remember if she was doing something this important at his age, or at least not something that required this much work.

"Only 17?" Ziel echoed, her eyebrows raising slightly in surprise. "It's impressive to see someone so young taking on such responsibility." Even if he was 18 soon, she was still very impressed.

As the savoury aroma of cooking food filled the air, Ziel's stomach rumbled in anticipation. She watched quietly as Owaen busied himself behind the bar.

"Thank you," Ziel said gratefully as Owaen refilled her cider. She took a sip, savouring the refreshing flavour before setting the mug back on the counter. “So I’m new in town, anything fun to do or worthwhile I’m here?”

"Haha, lets just say that I have had a lot of practice." Owaen chuckled as he looked back towards the woman. "I had gotten myself into a lot of trouble when I was younger. Trouble that landed me here."

Finishing up with his small chore he tended to another couple of customers. Taking their orders and fulling their pints. The door swung open as a couple of the barmaids walked in. They both gave a wave towards Owaen before heading for the back to sign themselves in. The two girls, one Geian/Lightning mix, the other was full Geian. Owaen gave a wave back as he was now glad that he had a little help with the rest of the tavern.

It wasn't too long before a plate popped up in the small window that connected the kitchen to the bar and a small bell was toned. That was Ziel's meal. Owaen grabbed the plate, thanking the cook before turning back around.

"Here ya go, one fish platter with wedges on the side. If you want anything else just let me know." He smiled as someone from the back of the room shouted for service.

"Be right there!" Owaen shouted back as he wiped his hands and headed out from behind the bar to take care of the patron. The barmaids would be a few minutes so he figured that he could take at least this order..

Ziel wondered what could get someone young into trouble, however she didn't delve deeper or ask about it. She'd learned long ago that some people had nasty pasts they'd rather not air to the whole word if possible. Which was fine, even if Ziel remained curious.

When the food arrived she dug right in, enjoying first the wedges and then diving into the fish. She'd been raised by the sea and her father was Matori so fish was a staple in her diet. This one was very good, it provided new flavors that she hadn't tried just yet. She watched the other patrons waiting for him to come back.

It took some time as Owaen dashed from the bar to other tables. Chatting with those that were around before the two barmaids came back out from the back. Dressed in their uniforms they started taking over things for Owaen. Flustered from all the running around, Owaen returned to the back of the bar and slumps onto a stool there.

"Those two are always so slow getting onto the floor." He complained a little too loudly as he looked towards the two girls who were now chatting up the crowds. "They mean well, but they should be more punctual."

Wiping his face off with a damp cloth, he looked back towards Ziel. "How's the fish? It was freshly caught this morning." He says before remembering he had been asked something before getting distracted. "Lets see, things to do? Huh? Well, there are all the shops one could go to and pick up items crafted from the many artisans. Hmmm." He paused a moment as he went to full a few pints with ale before placing them onto a tray for Mel, the Geian barmaid, to sweep away with.

"There's always the fishing contest down at the pier that will be in a few days. Heard the prize is going to be a good one." He paused again to think of what else might be happening locally, he couldn't say for sure about the other towns.
