Pyrrha would never get over the lush riverlands and all the life that thrived here. Even if she left Kiros to explore Pale’iko proper, as she was want to do from time to time, the plethora of plants was almost overwhelming. She could be out in the wilds for hours simply taking in the beauty around her with little more to do than pick through small shrubs to observe the critters that lived there. Tiny bugs to crawl on her fingers, slugs that looked enchanting but had a sting all their own, and creatures that could steal the very pack off her hip! It was marvelous, it was grand; it was perfect.

She’d never been more at peace in her life than she was right now. Not only had she made amends with her sister for leaving Zinris, but there was love in her life and her daughters were growing up in a way that she never could. Her niece had visited, stayed for weeks even to experience all that Kiros had to offer, and when she’d gone home-

-Enya snuck off with her.

Now as she sat in the middle of the river, heedless of anywhere proper to sit and instead just camping out in the shallows, Pyrrha could only wonder what Enya was thinking. The calm that she’d manifested for so many years was slipping away and try as she might Pyrrha just couldn’t push it away.

Pyanka trekked through the lush riverlands surrounding her home, a woven basket slung over her arm as she scoured her surroundings for the usual fare. It was a routine task for her, one she undertook often to gather plants and edible finds for the village. Lost in her foraging, Pyanka wandered deeper into the wilderness, her mind focused on the task at hand. She paused to inspect a cluster of wildflowers, admiring their delicate petals and inhaling their sweet fragrance. Moments later, she stooped to examine a patch of mushrooms, her fingers deftly separating the edible from the toxic. These were all great finds to bring back home.

It was during one of these moments that Pyanka spotted Pyrrha, sitting in the middle of the river, seemingly lost in contemplation. Surprised by the unexpected encounter, she approached her mother, her basket and task at hand forgotten for the moment.

"Hey," Pyanka said, a smile lighting up her features as she waded through the shallows to join her mother. "What are you doing?"

Pyanka settled beside her mother, feeling the cool water gently across her skin. "It's beautiful out here," she remarked glancing around them. She wondered why Pyrrha had chosen this particular spot especially since it was in the water.

Lost in thought as she was, Pyrrha didn't notice her daughters appearance until the girl was close to her, but even then she didn't startle. Instead, she turned to her with a 'hmm?', a little lost look on her face before it shifted into a smile. "It is, isn't it? I prefer the marshes, but the river is so clear here that you can see straight through. It's easy to lose time just watching."

Over the years she'd done just that; sit on a stone, curl her legs underneath her and watch. It was much harder to do when she had little ones to chase after, but now that her girls were growing up Pyrrha found a little more time in her day to wander.

"Pyanka," The Elarian shifted her hips so that she could turn toward the girl. "Have you ever thought about leaving Kiros?"

Pyanka paused, her gaze drifting across the tranquil expanse of the river as her mother's question hung in the air. The notion of leaving Kiros had crossed her mind more times than she could count, stirring a restless longing within her soul. She had always felt a yearning to explore the vast unknown beyond the familiar confines of their homeland, to venture into the far reaches of the world. Since she had met the merchant family, she thought about it more and more nowadays, she simply hadn’t mentioned it to anyone yet. There would be a time when she would need to tell her family though and that time was arriving quicker and quicker each day.

"I have," Pyanka admitted, her voice soft with contemplation as she turned to face her mother. "I often find myself daydreaming about it. About travelling to all the corners of the world, experiencing new cultures, and trying all the food that lies beyond our borders."

She shifted, her thoughts swirling with possibilities. "I've even entertained the idea of becoming a merchant, travelling from place to place, selling spices or bringing food items from one region to another," she confessed, a glimmer of excitement igniting in her eyes. "But... I'm not entirely sure yet. There's so much to consider, so many paths to choose from."

Pyanka glanced around at the shimmering river. "But one thing's for certain," she added with a determined smile, "I do want to see what lies beyond the horizon." She wanted it to be clear that there would come a day when she would leave home. “Why do you ask?”

Pyrrha could no more hide the sigh that slipped out than she could hide the way her shoulders dropped. While she felt beyond blessed that her daughter felt comfortable enough to tell her the truth, hearing it aloud just gave life to her worries. Kiros was safe for them; it was the haven she'd chased when Zinris turned it's back on her and had given life to a family of her own. And now that her daughters were growing up she felt it slipping away bit by bit.

But still, she couldn't keep herself from smiling a bit at Pyanka's musings. "A spice merchant?" It was so strange, to think that this was where the girl's passion lay. All those years ago when she and Kanika looked upon their little lotuses she never would have imagined it. "Would you give family discounts?"

Reaching into her pack, Pyrrha pulled out a little slip of paper and unfolded it the best she could before handing it over to Pyanka. "It seems your sister got a head start. She snuck away with Lutana to Zinris." Having her nieces visit had always been a blessing to Pyrrha. Having her daughters so close in age with Pruu's had almost felt like fate, but she'd never expected this kind of influence. "I'm not sure how long she'll be gone, but she made it clear she'll be gone for a while."

At her mother’s deep sigh, Pyanka looped an arm around hers and laid her head on her shoulder. It was her way of offering her comfort since she knew it couldn’t be easy for her. Now, she couldn’t even imagine telling Kanika either.

A small smile graced Pyanka's lips at her mother's joke about family discounts. "Of course, Mother. I’ll always have to make sure my family is well taken care of," she replied, with a hint of playfulness. She was glad her mother was taking it well. “And yes well, I met a family who deals in spices, and it just seems so interesting you know. The flavours of the land... Of the world. I find it really fascinating and I want to taste everything it has to offer.”

As Pyrrha handed her the slip of paper, Pyanka's brows furrowed in concern. Her sister's sudden departure had been unexpected and she couldn’t believe she’d left without telling her! "Thank you for letting me know. I hope they’re safe," she murmured, folding the paper carefully and extending it back to Pyrrha. “I guess I won’t be seeing her any time soon.” She mumbled half irritated.

“About the merchant thing, I haven’t officially told Kanika yet. Promise not to tell her?” She still needed a bit more time just to figure things out and make a solid plan. She didn’t want to just leave without a word and have her mothers worry for her. She was also going to reassure them that she’d be back often to visit them.

Leaning back against Pyanka, Pyrrha half-heartedly folded the slip of paper and stowed it away in her pack. "If you do see her in your travels I expect you to give her an earful." Which was comical, honestly, since Pyrrha herself had rarely ever disciplined the girls. She'd always seen any sort of emotional outburst or rebellion as a spark of youth, but there had been moments that tested her. Moments like this.

"My lips are sealed." She squeezed the girls arm. "I haven't told her about Enya either so maybe I should go first? That way if she gets upset she'll have time to cool." Although, how would Kanika feel about having a merchant in the family? It wasn't as if she expected her partner to disown the girl, but it did make her curious.

"This family you met, were they Kahikinan?"

Pyanka nodded, a thoughtful look crossing her face as she pondered Pyrrha's words and the upcoming conversation with Kanika.

"Yes, the family was Kahikinan. They had this warmth about them, they reminded me that there's a vast world out there, filled with potential friends and so many more things to see." She sighed softly, the complexities of family dynamics and acceptance weaving through her mind.

"Going first might give Kanika the space to process everything." Pyanka nodded, a thoughtful look crossing her face as she pondered Pyrrha's words and the upcoming conversation with Kanika. Pyanka's gaze shifted to the horizon.

"Kanika values family above all; she might surprise us with her openness." Her voice carried a hopeful note, a belief in the power of understanding and the strength of their familial bonds.
She then turned her attention back to Pyrrha, offering a reassuring smile. She knew her mother would accept her as she was. "Maybe this will bring us all closer."

The mention of giving Enya 'an earful' had been light-hearted, but Pyanka knew there was something else behind the words. She wouldn’t mince words with her sister when she saw her, she didn’t like learning of her departure like this.

"I like to think it will." Pyrrha smiled and reached out for her daughter's hand. "I haven't managed to chase Kanika away just yet so I doubt you girls could do anything to run her off." If that woman could cross an ocean and start a new life in a new land with someone like Pyrrha then handling a merchant daughter wouldn't be difficult.

"Would you do me a favor, when you go? If you ever visit Jauhar I would love to have some soil from Chibale. Maybe a few pieces of glowing fungus? I know it won't glow when it makes it way here, but imagine if it did."

“I don’t think that would ever be possible,” Pyanka said at her mother’s mention of Kanika leaving her. She had seen how Kanika adored taking care of Pyrrha and she doubted that would ever change. Now that all of their kids would be gone, she was sure her mothers would be spending all of their time together. At least until they came back, but Pyanka didn’t know when that would be.

At her mother's request, Pyanka nodded. Her mother's love for her homeland was evident, and it was such an easy ask. Not that she would have refused her even if the task had been hard. Perhaps it would be the first place she went to when she left, she had already planned on visiting many if not all of the Aishian settlements on her journey.

"Of course," Pyanka replied, her voice soft with affection. "I'll make sure to bring back some soil and as many glowing fungi as I can carry.” She squeezed her mother's hand gently, a silent promise to fulfill her request. Despite the distance that separated them from Chibale, Pyanka knew that her mother's heart remained tethered to their homeland, and she was determined to bring a piece of it back to her.

“Make a list of anything else you might want and I’ll get it for you.” It would give her a reason to come back sooner. “What do you think Enya is up to? I wonder if I will run into her while I’m out.”

Pyrrha looked down at their joined hands and offered a little smile. "Such a sweet girl." She was eternally grateful that her daughters had grown up where they did. Her nieces were kind, lovely souls too, but there was an edge to them that spoke of much harder trainings. Different cultures, different areas, different lives; it was amazing they were even related at all.

"Hmm, well she left with Vetra so I can imagine she's having a grand time." Pyrrha's smile turned into a little grin. While the other Elidae's crush on her daughter had been painfully obvious - even for Pyrrha - she wasn't so sure that Enya had caught on. "Maybe Elzira is guiding them to each other before sending them home? Or...to others." Pyrrha cleared her throat.

"When you travel will you be going on your own or will it be with a friend?"
PostPosted: Fri May 17, 2024 12:13 pm

Pyanka smiled at Pyrrha's words. "Elzira certainly has her ways," she agreed softly. "Sometimes guiding us in directions we least expect but need the most."

As Pyrrha's question hung in the air, Pyanka's thoughts turned to her own upcoming travels. The desire to explore the other trees had been growing within her for some time. She knew that journeying to the other trees was something she needed to do alone, a spiritual quest to deepen her connection with the world and her own spirit.

"I will be travelling with my Kahikian friends for part of the journey," Pyanka began, her voice thoughtful. "But the other trees call to me, not just as destinations, but as places of learning and growth. I believe there are lessons I need to learn that can only be found in solitude, in the quiet whispers of the wind through ancient branches, and the secrets held within their roots." She gave a nod of finality.

“Have you ever been to the mainland? To see the tree there?”
