Pyanka tightened the strap on her satchel as she stepped out of her small hut, the air crisp and filled with the earthy scent of the nearby forest. Her mother had left earlier for a hunting expedition while the other was running errands, leaving Pyanka with the task of gathering herbs and mushrooms to replenish their dwindling supplies. It was her favourite task anyway; she didn’t like to get involved in any hunting and just like Pyrrha she enjoyed the feel of the earth in the forest between her toes. It was something so grounding and relaxing that she always took the opportunity to go when she could.
The Elidae hummed a tune as she navigated through the trees, her keen eyes scanning the ground for the valuable items she sought. The vibrant colors of flowers and the distinct shapes of various mushrooms guided her way. Unbeknownst to Pyanka, something lurked in the shadows, its eyes fixated on her every move. As she bent down to pluck a cluster of herbs, a low growl echoed through the woods, sending a shiver down her spine. Pyanka froze, her heart pounding as she slowly straightened up. She was always told to be careful and to bring a weapon with her. Now the only thing she was equipped with was her herb knife and that wasn’t very sharp.
She turned cautiously, her eyes widening at the sight of a large, menacing creature emerging from the foliage. Pyanka's breath caught in her throat as the creature bared its sharp teeth, blocking her path back to the safety of her home. Fear gripped Pyanka, but she tried to steady herself. "Easy there, fella," she whispered, her hand moving slowly towards a small pouch at her side. The creature circled her, its movements predatory. Pyanka's mind raced, considering her options. She knew she couldn't outrun it, but perhaps she could find a way to fend it off or at least make enough noise to attract help.
With a deep breath, Pyanka shouted at the top of her lungs, hoping that someone, perhaps a nearby hunter, would hear her distress call. The creature hesitated, startled by the sudden noise.

Calixa had traveled with her mother and ended up.. well she wasn't quite sure which corner of the world they were in now. Not without a map. Her mental map wasn't very reliable in territories she had yet to fully explore. Though she could generally find her way back home if needed. With the little bit of free time she had the Vandrea had gone out into the wilds to find a bit of foliage to sketch into her journal to mark their progress through the lands. She gotten all settled in and had begun drawing the likeness of a plant when the large growl of a creature not too far off pulled her from her concentration. She was no beast tamer but even she knew that was the sound of a beast that found prey of some kind. Curiosity got the best of her and she closed her book so that she could go investigate, the pencil she'd been using now wedged between the pages. The Vandrea was well on her way to investigating where the beast was when she heard the loud yell coming from a person rather than prey. Well that sounded bad. Calixa figured they were either startled by the beast or in distress because of it so she picked up the pace. A moment later she would emerge into the same area that the beast and the screamer were, her eyes zeroing in on the creature as her hand went for the dagger she always kept on her. They tended to come in handy.

With the emergence of the Vandrea, the creature was caught off guard by the sudden noise and hesitated in its predatory advance. It snarled, its eyes narrowing at Pyanka and the other, assessing the potential threat before it. It now seemed to reconsider its choice of prey as it seemed to sense that the odds were no longer in its favour. One small Elidae it could take on, but this new one posed a real threat and it had only been looking for an easy meal, not a fight.
With a low growl of frustration, the creature began to back away, retreating into the depths of the forest. Pyanka remained vigilant and unmoving for what seemed like an eternity as she stared at where the creature had departed, ensuring it didn't double back or pose a threat from a different angle. As the distant sounds of the retreating beast faded, she an exhale of relief escaped her.
Pyanka turned to Calixa, gratitude gleaming in her eyes. "Thank you for coming. I wasn't sure I would have made it out alive with just my gathering knife." She hadn’t been sure anyone would come. That had been much too close for comfort, she was going to have to be more careful in the future when she went out and warn the others that the creature was hanging around the village.

She eyed the creature as it clearly took the time to debate. She had to admit she was thankful it decided she was not worth the effort. When it disappeared she stayed where she was, listening, to ensure it didn't turn around or try to circle back. When she heard the thanks from the girl she'd helped out she turned her attention toward her and smiled. "No problem. I do suggest keeping a bigger knife on hand though." They weren't always for self defense. Calixa was guilty of using hers to sharpen her pencils. "You alright? It didn't get to attack did it?" While it hasn't appeared that way she didn't want to assume.

Pyanka couldn't shake the feeling of unease that lingered in the air. In the wilderness, danger lurked around every corner, even this close to the village it seemed. But as she glanced at Calixa, a sense of reassurance washed over her. As long as she wasn’t alone she doubted the beast would come around to bother her again. Maybe one of her mothers could hunt it down tomorrow after she told them what happened.
Turning towards the girl, Pyanka extended her hand in friendship and offered her a warm smile, hoping to ease any lingering tension. "I'm Pyanka," she introduced herself, her voice soft but welcoming. "I've been around these woods for a while now, but I don't recognize you from the village. Are you visiting someone or passing by?" She could be just a touch of nosey.
