Kanika 1

Kanika's heart fluttered with a mix of anticipation and nervous excitement as she gathered Pyanka's belongings in preparation for the visit to her mothers. This reunion held a special significance; not only was Kanika returning home briefly, something she hadn't done in a little while now, but she was also introducing her daughter to the women who had shaped her into the person she had become. The excitement in her heart was mirrored by Pyanka's own, who, though outwardly composed, couldn't suppress the curiosity about her grandmothers and the tales of their family. Kanika had had to hear her talking on and on about it, she’d finally decided she’d heard enough and was taking her along.

Pyanka 1

Pyanka couldn't believe she would finally meet her grandmothers; she’d heard such amazing stories about them and now it was happening. Despite the teenage cool exterior, she couldn't help but feel a flutter of excitement in her stomach. She’d talked both of her mothers ears off about this trip and while she wished her sister and Pyrrha could join them, she’d take the lone trip over having to wait. So Kanika was taking her and it was a mother-daughter trip now. Pyanka still wasn’t sure which weapon she was taking up, but maybe this trip was just what she needed to figure it out.

Zandala 1

Zandala found herself feeling a whirlwind of emotions as the hours ticked away towards her daughter's arrival. The anticipation of meeting Pyanka, her granddaughter, tugged at her heartstrings. Zandala busied herself with tidying the home and preparing a feast fit for this special occasion. Lumi was out running errands right now, but the girls were arriving today. She’s wished both of her daughters and their own daughters could have come along, but Zandala would take just two of them. Perhaps next time she’d make the journey and go see them herself. Everyone was so busy now a days it was hard to get everyone under a single roof.

Kanika 2

The trip was shorter than anticipated, it was nice to get out of the village for a bit. Pyanka seemed to also be enjoying being out and about, Kanika didn’t like her children running off in case something happened. Tendaji was peaceful right now, but threats lurked in the shadows waiting to pounce. In any case, Kanika was not on guard, not like she’d been when she was younger. This was a relaxing trip and nothing else.

They arrived mid-afternoon, Kanika knocking on the wood frame before pushing the curtain aside that served as a door to the last childhood home, she’d been brought up in.

“We’re here!” She called.

Pyanka 2

Pyanka followed after Kanika and asked many questions as they journeyed along. They never really got to go anywhere far from their village which meant this was Pyanka’s first trip. They’d packed light but enough for a few days away from home, but she’d also packed a special gift for both her grandmothers. She’d made them both a bracelet from foraging, they matched too, and she was quite proud of them. Kanika had said Zandala might not wear it since… Well, she’d explained it to Kanika but it hadn’t made any sense.

So here she stood, right behind Kanika who had called out.

Zandala 2

Zandala had been in the more secluded kitchen area when Kanika called out. Smiling, she headed out to greet her daughter.

“Kanika!” She grabbed her daughter into a hug and then spotted her granddaughter. She was a beautiful Elidae though she was looking a little too delicate for her liking. She was going to have to speak to Kanika about strengthening up her daughter.

“Welcome little one,” Zandala said as she let go of Kanika to grab Pyanka into a tight hug. “I’m very happy to finally meet you. Don’t hide now, come in come in.” Zandala moved through the home to find the room Kanika had shared with her sister. “You can settle here for the few nights you’re here.”

Kanika 3

Kanika followed her mother to the familiar bedroom she’d shared with her sister.

“Is Lumikani home?” she asked as she dropped her bags on the bed. She took a look around; it was weird being back here. She felt like such an adult now and this room was definitely for someone who was younger. Pyanka would be just at home though, she was curious as to what her daughter thought of the room. She’d have to ask her later on after having some much-deserved food in their bellies. It smelled like someone had been cooking and Kanika could feel her stomach rumbling.

Pyanka 3

Zandala was a very big Alk! Pyanka had not imagined her so since Lumikani, her other grandmother, was petite. She looked very formidable and looking at her attire, Pyanka understood why she might not wear the bracelet.

Pyanka followed her mother into her old bedroom and dropped her things in the opposite bed. This must have been her aunt’s bed. It was interesting to see the things her mother had been interested in when she was younger. Her side was sparser with lots of wooden weapons too. That came to no surprise though, Kanika’s hobby was practicing with her weapons.

Zandala 3

“She’s out running an errand. Come let’s sit outside while the food cooks.” Zandala moved towards the door and then out to sit on a log. She watched Pyanka’s movements, judging to see how her training was coming along.

“So, little one, which path have you decided to take?” She didn’t see a weapon on her, not a single one. Zandala didn’t know how to feel about that. She’d been trained hard and she’d also made her sure daughters had trained too, but this one didn’t seem to even have the muscles that spoke to hours spent training. She turned to give Kanika a look.

Kanika 4

“Mother…” Kanika said as she returned the look Zandala was giving her with one of her own. She knew exactly where Zan was going with the line of questioning, and she would have none of it. Pyanka just wasn’t made for fighting and that was okay, she would do other great things.

“How have things been?” She asked casually knowing full well it was a change of subject and making sure her mother knew it wasn’t a subject that was up for debate. Lumikani would have understood if she’d been here. Perhaps a discussion for another time when both her mothers were here.

Pyanka 4

“It’s fine mama,” Pyanka said glancing at her. “I haven’t decided what to do yet, but I know I would like to travel a lot so something that would allow me to do that would be great.” There, she’d said it. She knew her family were all great warriors, but she just wasn’t made for it. And in any case, these weren’t the same times as when Zandala had been her age. The rules weren’t as strict, the world was far more at peace… It was different and so change was brought and adaptation was needed. Pyanka was just adapting to the times that’s all.

Zandala 4

“I was just asking,” Zandala defended herself before listening to Pyanka. Well, any warrior could travel so not all hope was lost!

“Oh you know, this and that.” In truth, Zandala had been having thoughts of having more children lately. She didn’t know if it was because both of her daughters had left the nest so to speak, but it was an itch she was having. She hadn’t spoken to Lumikani about it though, so she certainly wasn’t about to mention anything to Kanika just yet. It was nice to see Pyanka though, maybe they’d stay a little longer and Zandala would be able to show her a couple of things.

Kanika 5

Now it was Zandala who was sounding suspicious. Her mother was clearly hiding something with the answer she’d given but Kanika wouldn’t pry. Zandala usually liked to speak with Lumikani first so maybe she’d heard it from her or Zan was waiting for her to get back before saying anything.

“That’s good to hear…” Why did it feel like their discussion was awkward? Pyanka seemed unaffected but Kanika was getting some weird vibes.

“Pyanka, didn’t you have something for your grandmother?” She prompted the young Elidae while offering her a smile. Now would be as good as any time for the gift.

Pyanka 5

“Oh yes!” Pyanka jumped up and ran back inside to riffle through her belongings. She was excited to finally be able to give the gifts she’d made. She found the bracelet that was for Zandala and ran back out, only slowing down when she exited the hut.

“I made one for you and Lumikani.” She said and extended out the bracelet. It had little glass beads the colour of her skin and she’d tried to find some shells that would match the color of her markings. She didn’t know if it would match all the black and red Zandala wore, but it was a gift surely, she’d accept it.

Zandala 5

Zandala watched her eager granddaughter disappear into the hut with a smile before turning to Kanika. “It doesn’t look like you’re even training her, she doesn’t have a single weapon on her.” Her tone was hushed so Pyanka couldn’t hear, and her eyes wandered back and forth between the door and Kanika.

No reply came however because Pyanka was back just as quickly as she’d left. Zandala took the extended bracelet and looked it over. It was beautiful.

“Did you make this?” Now she knew where Pyanka’s skills lay, she didn’t have the hands of a warrior. “It’s very beautiful, I will cherish it.” She put it on and twirled her wrist around to look it over.
