Prompt 3 (Flurries and Flowers):Strange snow flurries have been blowing through town, frosting entire buildings. Sometimes they come out of nowhere--overnight, or in the timespan of just a few short hours. Sometimes, only minutes. Snow falls rapidly and ice coats doors and windows, sealing them shut. These snow flurries are knocking out power, and worse--trapping people in buildings and cars. Sheets of frosty ice build up quickly and have caused major inconveniences. But, it’s not all bad, if you can find a way to appreciate the small things. After these flurries, in addition to the fresh snow and ice, beautiful flowers in the shape of snowflakes have sprouted up, too. They grow in small patches and permeate a pleasant, sweet fragrance. They can grow on any surface, as long as it is covered in snow or ice. If the flowers are not kept in freezing temperatures, they melt, but for the duration of their lifespan they are beautiful, fragile things.
When one stood next to the windows of the apartment, you could feel the cold radiating from it from a good foot away even with the heat going to keep the apartment at a comfortable temperature. You certainly couldn’t look out the windows as they were currently iced over too thick to see anything had it been light enough outside even though it was midday. Richard had invited Holi to his apartment to spend time together for the day and when he had been cooking them lunch the snow flurry had hit out of nowhere, frosting the world outside within minutes. It thankfully had not affected the power at all so they were pretty comfortable still as they sat down on the couch to eat lunch, a warm potato soup. Lexus was currently burrowed between both of them with a little ferret shirt on to aid in keeping her warm.
Holi was a bit freaked out with the weather but that didn't fully ruin her mood. As per usual, she was sitting on the couch in one of Rick’s flannel shirts and nothing else cept one of her fuzzy pairs of socks that went with the red and black checkered pattern. She was currently savoring the soup that Rick made, so happy that she has someone that can cook. Not that she couldn't, but it was just nice that Rick could and he just spoiled her. Her hand went down to pet and rub on Lex’s head, reaching down to place a small kiss on the top of her head. Her soup was almost done, but she had the itus so she got up to place it in the kitchen, sitting back down on the couch with her head in Rick’s lap this time, moving Lex so that she would rest on her chest instead. “Pretty girl~” She gave her another kiss, turning her head to nuzzle against Rick’s stomach while he ate.
She was the most content she's been in awhile.
While cooking certainly wasn’t a hobby of his, he had lived on his own for so long her had learned a variety of dishes. Something he was more than happy to make his girlfriend happy with. While they had gone on dates that were more rambunctious, Rick could admit to himself at least that it was quiet moments of companionship like this that really made him realize that this was a relationship that wasn’t going to end suddenly.
After Holi was back from dropping off her bowl and stretched out on the couch and his lap, Rick watched her with a soft look and a small, content smile. He took the last bit of his soup then gently set the bowl down on the small table next to the couch to deal with later when he didn’t have the girls on him.
Lexus was of course eating up the attention and squiggled happily on top of Holi, turning round and round under her hands for a moment before flopping down with a squeaky noise.
Holi giggled at the little squeak Lex gave, scratching her head. She yawned, one cornflower blue eye looking up at her boyfriend, “What are you thinking about?” Her small hand reached up to poke at his chin playfully, a content and sleepy smile present on her face. It was strange to think that she’s been in a relationship for almost a year and a half now, and nothing negative has happened. Granted she lucked out with Rick being of the chaos variety[she wasn't sure what her odds were of him being order], and ticking off boxes she actually didn't know she had. It was a bonus that her foster mom liked him as well and Bellamy thought he was okay [if only because they get rowdy and forget he's in the basement], which meant that Rick was indeed a keeper.
There was something she's been wanting to say for quite some time but she could never figure out when the right time was…There was a little sparkle, and Sophie was curled up on Holi’s legs. It was rare for her to visit when she wasn't powered but she enjoyed it whenever she decided to appear. “Hey Sophie baby~” The jackalope chirped and leaped from Holi to Rick’s shoulder, nuzzling against his face. The companion has taken a liking to Rick and much to her dismay, Fenrir as well, to which of course the stupid youma did not mind her one bit. Ugh….
Rick didn’t answer right away to her question, letting his thoughts swim into order in silence for a moment or so. Words were on the tip of his tongue but he held them back just a little bit longer. When Sophie showed up he reached up to pet the little cosmic companion with another smile. The cosmic Jackalope had certainly been a surprise but of course not in a bad way, and why wouldn’t he be amused to see her and Fenrir get along?
Still, he had stalled the moment long enough as when he looked back down at Holi, relaxed with a beautiful joyfulness written on her entire body as she showed her affection, he couldn’t hold them back any more. “Holi, I love you.”
…..What?
Holi blinked a couple of times, just stared at Rick for a bit. Did he just? DID HE JUST BEAT HER TO THE PUNCH?! NO FAIR! Holi sat up just slightly, gathered Lex in her arms, and stood up, kissing the ferret on the head before placing her in her cage. Sophie was given a kiss on the head too before she chirped and disappeared back into subspace. One day she would work on her part in mirror space, just not right now. Once everything was settled, Holi straddled Rick’s lap, legs on either side of him while her hands wrapped around his neck. Pressing her forehead to his Holi looked him in the eyes and smiled, “Tell me again please.”
Rick watched, half amused and half nervous though he only visibly showed the first, as Holi proceeded to get up and put away the fur babies, magical or not. She hadn’t said anything yet so he just sat there watching as she moved around and eventually straddled him. He in turn placed his hands on her hips to both steady her and to gently hold her. His lips curled into a smile at her words and he looked her back in the eyes and said seriously, “I love you.”
Holi couldn't help the giggle that came from her when Rick said those three little words again, seriously this time. She couldn't help but kiss him on the forehead first, “I love you Rick.” then she moved to kiss his nose next, “I love you.” His cheeks each received a kiss before she pressed her lips to his gently, pulling away to look him in the eyes again so she could say it just as seriously as he did, “I love you, Rick.” It felt nice to admit to something that she’s felt for the longest time. In truth, saying it any earlier than this would’ve felt too soon. Holi could confidently say that this felt right, and she knew she loved her boyfriend to pieces, couldn't really see herself without him now that he's been in her life for so long.
The part of him that had been worried relaxed as she returned the words that meant so much. When she kissed him he smiled then kissed her back once she went for his lips, only to pull her in again after she said it one more time “You make me feel like I can do anything when I’m with you.” He admitted after pulling away just enough to rest their foreheads together.
That, that's what caused her heart to soar.
Holi smiled, eyes watering just slightly while she ran her hands through his hair, “I am the bestest cheerleader aren't I?” she giggled with a bit of a hiccup, sniffling while she tried to whip the tears away. “I-I'm s-sorry! These are h-happy tears I promise!” She kept sniffling, knowing that there was someone else that loved her other than her foster mom just hit her harder than she thought. It was a strange feeling, being loved, especially when the people that helped create you didn't love you enough to keep you. Shaking her head with the thought to unpack all of that later when she was not in the middle of the happiest moment in her life, Holi pulled Rick into another kiss that was more needier than the last. This was another way for her to show how much she loved the man she was currently straddling.
Was she feeling randy? Perhaps. But this was different. Regretfully pulling away, Holi leaned in to whisper ever so sweetly, “Make love to me please Rick?”
