Takes place after this

Meissa stared down at the phone in her hands. She now carried it everywhere that she went in order to make sure that she wasn’t going to miss the initial text message from Beatrix. The note that had included the number of this prepaid phone had only been left about three days earlier but so far there had been no indication that Beatrix had even gotten the note. Had it been discovered, or worse, tossed out by the young man that she had seen behind the counter more often than not?

If the note had been tossed, would she even bother to write out a complex response once more or would she simply leave another note with the phone number on it and instructions to text her as soon as possible?

These doubts swirled in her mind even as she sat down on the rooftop she currently had stopped on for a small break from her patrol. In all honesty though Meissa wasn’t exactly patrolling anymore. Ever since Beatrix had thrust her hand into her chest Meissa had been experiencing phantom pain deep inside. Nothing had happened, she was certain of it but it seemed as if something had shifted in her mind and she was now afraid to actually go looking for those that fought on chaos’ side. She didn’t care to have a repeat performance of having her starseed locked in the grip of an officer of chaos’ hand if she could help it.

Had something finally been jarred loose from her period of missing time years back or was this just her overactive imagination playing tricks on her. Either way, the less confrontations she encountered, the better it was for her nerves.

Morgan had almost missed the note this time, she’d avoided going in after the last scuffle with another order senshi. It hadn’t gone well and she was hurting all over still, especially since she hadn’t taken another starseed to finish healing her wrist. It was healing the normal way this time and she was not really about it but the last fight had been too much. She still itched for more starseeds but she wasn’t okay anymore, not with how it had felt having so many in a row with that senshi’s magic firing off on her.

Reaching up and grabbing the note, she could feel her brain shutting off for a moment as she tried to figure out what it meant. Fumbling to get her phone out of her bra, she typed the number in as soon as she figured it out.

“Hello! Is this M?”

Shooting off the text she hid the note in her pocket as she sat and watched the TV humming along, it was another one of those murder true crime shows that ran late at night when she normally worked. It was easy to listen to while she nursed her pounding headache with a cold bottle. It helped a bit but still, everything hurt and felt too loud and like everything was just too much.

The sudden pinging of the phone that she was staring down at had Meissa almost dropping the device as the unexpected text message came through. Opening the messages feature had a number popping up that she didn’t recognize but what Meissa did recognize was the way that her initial was used and who else, besides Beatrix would have known about that. Coupled with the fact that it was being sent via a text message must have meant that her note had indeed been found and Meissa sighed in relief. Her fingers itched to type in the affirmative reply almost immediately but the bobcat senshi stopped the desire before scrutinizing her surroundings. There had been no initial left with her latest note, just the bobcat doodle so who else could this have been besides Beatrix?

Her fingers danced across the screen as she selected her initial greeting back to the corrupt senshi before hitting send.

Do you want it to be someone else B? Pretty sure the note was clear that only you would have the number? But to allay concerns, yes this is M. Like I mentioned in my note I figured this would be easier for all concerned. It gives us the option of instant notes now instead of risking losing messages to each other.

Meissa rose from her seated position before she paced a little. If the lines of communication were open now, she was pretty sure that there’d be next-to-little time in between replies between the two of them. Beatrix had seemed pretty eager in the initial discussion to bring her over and it seemed as if that eagerness remained.

Watching the dots on her phone as they had been typing, she was relieved that it was Meissa. Her decoding skills weren’t the best so she had missed a few things here and there in the note but she wasn’t going to admit that.

“No way, I just wanted to make sure was all yanno? But ya as an answer to your note, I can help handle the transition stuff. My boss is all about my work ethic so I get a lot of free reign for things. I can grab some of the things ya mentioned whenever it’s time for things. I can understand not wanting anything from the mystery aisle of the store, I wonder sometimes if something died in the machines to get the flavors yanno? How are things going with your preparations?”

Text sent, she did a short round around the store and looked for expired snacks to throw into the expiration tote in the back room. She still stumbled slightly, the knee to her gut had done a lot more than she’d thought but she had to at least do some of the work to pass the time on her shift. With the snow and all the poor weather, she didn’t have any customers to deal with tonight at least.

It was good to know that Beatrix was being careful about things. Even better that it didn’t seem as if when the time came for her to throw away her allegiance to the side of order that no one would dare to question anything. At least that was what she hoped. There was still that little nagging doubt that she was making one giant mistake in the grand scheme of things. Surely there could be easier ways to go about getting rid of an opponent than trying to lay any sort of sophisticated trap. Especially since Meissa hadn’t really thought that far out ahead about what the said trap could entail. But those were serious thoughts for a later time. Meissa had realized that quite a bit of time had passed since she had received Beatrix’s latest text. With lightning speed Meissa reread what Beatrix had sent before opening up the reply feature.

It’s good that no one else will cause issues. That’s been my main concern after getting things in order. I’m almost certain that my folks suspect something is going on but they are just worried I guess. I can’t blame them. But as for my preparations, I think I’m getting closer with every day that passes. I think I gave a timeline of two to three weeks in my note and I’m going to stick with that length of time unless something changes. If that happens, I’ll for sure message you with an update.

I don’t like to admit weakness to anyone. But I worry that something is going to go wrong. If I still didn’t have things left to square away I’d say “let’s do this tonight,” but it’s not time yet. No more than twenty one days or so. Sooner if possible. I think I’ll be relieved once everything is over and done with.

It wasn’t in her to admit that she was feeling insecure about this plan, but if she acted cavalier about the entire operation, would that not set off red flags? At seeing just how much she had sent off to Beatrix, Meissa thumbed a second quick text message to the corrupt before waiting to see if she’d get another reply.

Oh, god. I apologize for just how long my reply was.

Morgan almost fell over the counter as she heard he phone ding again, throwing the bags of chips at the back room without really caring if they all got there. Taking her seat on the stool, she could feel her head pounding as she looked over the wall of text on her phone. She felt a bit odd reading about how their parents were worrying in a way. Morgan couldn’t even remember the last time she’d heard from her after she’d left in the middle of the night to move to the city. Even if they had tried to contact her, she hadn’t had that old phone number since she’d gotten this new one a few months back.

Shifting on the stool, she really had to think things through for a moment. Everything would be fine, right? She had Chrys and Croconite on her side and she was sure the dreaded eternal liked her too. If anything she also had started trying to teach some of the baby agents how to do their job and pull starseeds so it was going well right? Maybe there was a hiccup here and there but she hadn’t been seen messing up so that worked out for her. Shaking her head, which was a big mistake, she started texting back.

“I’ve totally got it figured out, no sweat M! Def let me know if you need anything else, I can grab stuff while I’m out. The snow and stuff should also be less of a pain by then too so that’ll make stuff easier. But yea I gotcha covered, stuffs gonna be just fine I can handle it! : ) We can get some awesome food to celebrate after yea!”

That sent, she saw the apology text and shot off another short one back to that too.

“No problem ya, this isn’t that bird app with the character limit.”

Stretching, she sat and watched her phone while she waited for a response. Maybe she’d pilfer some aspirin or something by the end of the night but she didn’t want to miss any messages from Meissa.

As her phone chimed once more Meissa looked over the response from Beatrix before feeling her tense shoulders loosen, just a little. It seemed like her tactics were working in the sense that this new method of communication was much more simple to go about staying in touch. It also, perhaps, allowed Meissa the chance to get away from using pen and paper. If someone were skilled enough they could possibly read into ink flow and pressure and make the logical assumption that she was still stressed about her plan.

Sure it had been spur of the moment, and so far everything was working out in her favor, but still Meissa had to worry. If things turned sour what would happen? Would anyone else be made to pay for her mistake in the most crucial moments? Would it be better just to believe that she could take on Beatrix by herself? Was there anyone that she could trust to aid in an ambush? Even if the ambush was successful, it wasn’t like they could force Beatrix to do anything that she didn’t want to. No, maybe just one close friend would be enough to help Meissa out. Her thoughts turned to a familiar face before she smiled.

I’ve got to start heading home now. If you want daily updates I can do that or we can settle on a period of time to check in with each other. It was nice to have a faster means of catching up with each other without me risking drawing unwanted attention to myself. Take care B.
