Prompt 1 (Diamond Dust): This time of year, snow is common. What’s uncommon is the single, strange snowfall where each snowflake that fell glistened like tiny diamonds. For the most part, the snow seems fairly normal—it’s cold, wet, and melts just like any other snow, it just also happens to look like tiny little gems are falling from the sky. Depending on who you’re with, it’s either incredibly strange, or incredibly romantic.

When the snow is coming down at its strongest, crystalized snowflakes trickle down with the rest of the snow. These are roughly the size of a quarter and are light and hollow. They are fragile, like glass, but glisten like a fine cut gem. No one can explain this anomaly, but these small snowflakes won't melt. And they are all over Destiny City. You can find them gently falling to the ground, or lying in the fresh fallen snow. There doesn’t seem to be anything particularly magical about them, but they are beautiful and make pretty keepsakes.

With a soft huff, Nataniel flipped his phone face-down on the coffee table and slid it away from him. His friend’s concern should have been enough to spur him into action, and he would like to think that if the concern was targeted toward anyone else, Nataniel would have rushed to do as he was bid. But for Ellian…

It was hard to imagine that this scenario was anything other than his little brother forgetting his prior engagements. Or perhaps Ellian had found something more entertaining to do than make breakfast for someone else. If he’d stayed out last night, perhaps he just went to a Christmas party and lost track of the time, as he was wont to do when he was enjoying himself, regardless of who might be missing him or what he might be neglecting. Nataniel could not force himself to be overworried about Ellian’s mistakes when he had personally done quite well for himself this morning already.

Even if he was not generally a spirited sort of person, the efforts he’d gone to for suitable arrangements for Basyl’s holiday enjoyment had paid off well enough. Said man was lounged across Nataniel’s lap, all gangly limbs and tangled waves of lavender hair. Awake, but hardly focused, paying half a mind to the television and the other half to his phone while Nataniel idly played with his hair, sipped warm tea, and wished Gideon had contacted someone else.

It would be a shame to disturb such a peaceful moment for his love…

But Gideon would want some kind of reply probably within the hour.

A resigned exhale left him, and he carded his fingers as well as he could through Basyl’s tangles, giving the barest tug to draw his attention. “Gideon says it has been a while since he has seen Ellian,” Nataniel murmured stiffly, no doubt failing to hide any reluctance he felt toward the situation. “He is concerned, and I think he would appreciate my assistance.”

“Hm?” A low, soft hum vibrated in his throat as Basyl gingerly shuffled to try and situate himself more comfortably on his back, with head and shoulders still across Nataniel’s legs as he peered up at the other. “Gideon hasn’t seen him?” He parroted quietly. How worrisome was that? Ellian was very active, very energetic! He could barely sit still, so it didn’t seem like this should be very much cause for worry. Nataniel didn’t seem concerned…

There were few things that could goad him into showing that, though.

And if Gideon was messaging them, he must be very scared. That was probably the most relevant information: Gideon was scared, scared enough to ask for help, scared enough for Nat to oblige him.

“What are you going to do,” Basyl prompted as he pulled himself forward into a sit. As far as he’d been aware, they were spending the day in- or they had been, maybe not now. Nataniel was probably far from thrilled about it, but Basyl would gladly give up the time to make sure Ellian and Gideon were safe and hopefully happy. “I’m assuming calling hasn’t worked out well so far.” So they would have to go and find him, physically. “Should I go with you…?”

’What are you going to do?’

Well, he didn’t want to do anything about it; he didn’t think he should have to do anything about it. But there was at least one thing Nataniel could try that Gideon couldn’t, and if it eased his friend’s concerns, he supposed there didn’t need to be more reason than that. “I will summon him,” Nataniel stated softly. “And if that is unsuccessful…” A shrug. He didn’t know where to find Ellian any more than Gideon did. “But as always, I would appreciate your company.”

Nataniel called his little brother’s phone before he and Basyl left the house. Even if nothing came of it, there was no reason not to exhaust the easier avenues before trying more difficult ones. But as Gideon had warned, there was no answer. He tried to track it (unsure if Gideon had that privilege or not), but Ellian’s phone was either dead, or what Nataniel expected was more likely, in subspace.

As much as it pained him to ruin a perfectly good morning with his fiance by poisoning it with any mention of Ellian, they were in it now.

But his stupid, selfish little brother would hear of it when he was found.

They left the house on Nataniel’s motorcycle, parked it unobtrusively along a completely nondescript two-lane-edge-of-city backroad, and then powered up only when they were far enough away from even the potential of prying eyes. Rakovanite hadn’t wanted to be out here to begin with, and he didn’t want to spend more time in the middle of this snowfall than was necessary. Although he usually warned his subordinates before he summoned them, Cervantite hardly deserved the courtesy.

Drawing on the vein of Chaos that connected them, Rakovanite used that familiar sensation to pull Cervantite to him: and was rewarded with a heap of rainbow and leather appearing on the ground before him.

Bizarrely, he wasn’t alone. There must have been half a dozen white rabbits that leapt off of him, scattering away in all directions as Cervantite plopped down in the dense snow.

It must have taken Rakovanite… perhaps too long to see the full picture in front of him. Cervantite was crumpled and still and quiet. And by the time that information caught up to him, by the time he knelt to the ground, Narcissus was already there. For a single, wild (fearful?) moment, he thought Cervantite- Ellian- was dead, body here just because Rakovanite had willed it to be-

But no, no- He couldn’t imagine being able to summon a corpse, no matter how he could feel the chill of Cervantite’s skin through his gloves. Rakovanite stared (too long) to see the shallow wisps of Cervantite’s breath against the snow, stained with just the tiniest flecks of red.

They would have to take him to the hospital.

Narcissus flew to Diesel’s side practically the very second his gaze had landed on the younger boy’s crumpled form. He knelt, fingers frantically (but carefully!) prodding to seek out whatever damage there was- it was hard to find an origin amongst all the stark black leather, and in the darkness of their surroundings, and the way Diesel had just appeared in a messy, twisted heap. Narcissus was loath to move him too much, but… Well, there wasn’t much of a choice!

“Diesel- E-Ellian,” Narcissus whispered as he leaned close. “If you can hear me, I’m going to a-adjust-adjust you just a little.

Not a response to be had, but he’d hardly expected one. He touched a palm to Diesel’s shoulder, gently pressing back. But he was cold and stiff and there was more resistance in the movement than Narci had expected. How close was he to dead already? Too much for it to matter? Neither he nor Rakovanite had any healing magic… They could’ve come out here just to fail, just to catch the tail end of a life slipping away just to see this poor boy in his worst moments just to be there to lethimdie-

Narcissus ******** get a grip- This is your actual job. And you're going to kill him.

You’re going to kill him if you don’t help him.

He couldn’t be slow and gentle, even if he was scared that this was Ellian’s (his brother’s!) life that he was tending to. If he couldn’t get it together for someone important to him, why did it matter if he could for anyone else?

Battling stiffness, Narcissus untangled Diesel’s limbs from around him and was able to arrange him on his back, flat against the snow, under cover of darkness, surrounded by trees. At least now he could see where the leather of Diesel’s fuku had torn, freezing close to his skin where it had been wetted, and ah- The cold was probably more help than hindrance for the moment. If Narcissus picked at the tattered edges of fabric, he could see jagged, deep and messy punctures in Diesel’s side, just beneath his waist.

Those winter bunnies… Narcissus had seen them before. They were cold to the touch, cold as any ice, and they’d been huddled around Diesel quite tightly.

“The bleeding is stagnant, but he’s going to need more than I can give him here.” Narcissus ripped open his space pocket, produced a box cutter, a bottle of water, a small flashlight and an extra tee shirt. He clicked the flashlight in, held the end of it in his mouth so he could have some visibility. The box cutter was hardly the right tool for the job of shearing away the bodysuit that clung to Diesel, but it was what he had. He cut as close as he could, but leather tatters still stuck to him, and- and was that little shards of glass glinting in the wound?

He flushed it out with a bit of water to hopefully keep any stray bits from wedging deeper than they already were, then held the wadded tee over the wound.

“…And… and you should make sure Feldspar knows…”
