New year, new me and all that bs! It was wet and cold out and yet she was still out there in an isolated, abandoned building practicing her throwing skills. Strengite had set up a few cardboard targets, most closer to her but there were one or two that were at a distance. She had chosen the old building so she didn’t have to deal with the weather and she wasn’t in anyone’s view so when her daggers went wide of their mark there wasn’t anyone to laugh. She was getting better at it… about half of her throws actually hit a target. But only half of those actually hit with the blade side in.

Taffe felt the energy signature, stronger than hers not far off where she currently was and decided to head for it. She kicked kicked off with her skateboard turning into the what looked like an abandoned building. She pulled skated into the building and called out, “Hello. Who’s there, Lieutenant Taffeite here.”

She hoped the person wasn't hurt, but figured they could be chilling though most people chose the rooftops for that.

Strengite might have been focused on her personal practice but she wasn’t so focused that she hadn’t felt the brushes of chaotic aura. She just chose to ignore it, even as it got closer. Honestly, she wasn’t fantastic at pinpointing strengths and what not via aura’s but she was fairly decent at figuring out if they were stronger or not, and this one was most definitely not. She threw another dagger, this one sinking into the cardboard with a satisfying crunch, just as the Lieutenant came wheeling in…. On a skateboard of all things!

“Why a skateboard?” That was really all that was on Strengite’s mind when she spotted the younger officer. As a officer they were able to run faster then normal civilians so why would any of them use a skateboard, or skates in general?

Quote:
She didn't see the captain at first, but after she spotted her she gave a wave to her. “Hey.” She skated over coming to a halt before the Captain. “What exactly are you doing?”She could see the targets and wondered if they were there before, but she doubted it.

She kicked her skateboard up and put it under her arm, not really needing it at the moment.

Strengite was a bit torn, did she answer truthfully and well, quite likely make a fool of herself, or did she do what she kind of wanted to do which was to be a smart a** and chase the kid away. The only issue with the second one is she didn’t actually know who the kid ‘belonged’ to but she looked familiar…. Which meant she likely was one of the LT’s for someone Strengite didn’t want to get on the bad side of. It was most of the upper echelon truthfully. It was harder to get favors out of people who didn’t like you so playing nice with little snots was sometimes needed.

“Practicing,” The captain replied but actually provided no real answers, just throwing her dagger again. This time the dagger sailed off into the dark building, clattering to the floor quite a distance away. With a sigh Strengite summoned the erstwhile weapon back, pretty much the only reason she was out here powered up was for this little trick. No way in hell was she going to exert the energy it would take to fetch all her failed throws, not when magic was a very viable answer.

And much more useful to boot!

Taffe nodded when she said practicing and watched her throw her weapon, wincing when it was anywhere near the target. “I can see why, you definitely need practice… Are you even aiming? Have you tried youtube university?”

She frowned looking at the very stationary target and shook her head, “no one’s gonna stand still while you're throwing knives … good luck hitting a moving target.” She dropped her skateboard and pushed off guilding around the captain to further drive home her point.

“At least a knife is better than a tiny fancy church hat though.”

Strengite narrowed her eyes at the cheeky little s**t, “Like you could do any better?” There might have been a few tutorials she had checked out but they didn’t really make much sense to her so she was mostly just winging it. She didn’t think the teen would be any better at throwing her daggers then Strengite was. Her irritation rose when the kid started to glide around the captain on her skateboard, pointing out one of the major flaws of her current practice. She knew this. She knew that the few times she had actually gotten a good strike in was from sheer dumb luck but that still didn’t mean that Strengite wanted that s**t pointed out.

“You offering to be the target kid?” She snarked, a brow high in challenge. If she actually hit the girl it wasn’t like it was Strengite’s fault. She volunteered. It totally wouldn’t be on her for any injuries that were sure to occur. Absolutely not on her head. No one from the higher ups could blame her.

Quote:
“I probably could, given 10 minutes with a tutorial, but that won't make me an expert, but any stretch of the imagination.” She rolled her eyes and continued her gliding around the captain with all the confidence in the world despite being a lieutenant

She shrugged when the captain asked if she was offering to be a target. “It's not like you hit me, do your worst Captain …”

She frowned and chuckled, grinning and skating past the captain and giving her a quick push. “Let’s go, give it your best shot.”

Quote:
Oh…. that girl had the balls only a teenager had and Strengite was definitely about to do her best to teach her a lesson. “Alright then,” the captain narrowed her eyes and swatted at the lieutenant when the girl nudged her as she skated past. “I’ll give you a five second head start.”

One Mississippi… Two Mississippi… Three….

On the silent count of three she tossed one of her daggers. Oops! She just miscounted…

Besides, she was a ******** negavers officer. She didn’t have to play fair and the snotty LT should learn that the ‘enemy’ won’t play fair either.

Quote:
Taffe wasn’t concerned about the captain hitting her, she had pretty good reflexes from skateboarding, which helped her avoid the occasional wipe out. She wasn't surprised either that the woman was cheating, she skated off easily enough. Still the woman’s mark was way off so she could have stood still and it still would have missed.

“Awwww too bad,” Taffe said gliding by, before changing direction and skating right at the captain, swerving narrowly to just miss her, but pushing her hard on her as she sped by.

“You ma’am or going to have to do better than that … the better you are the less likely I am to get my lick back,” Taffe said before laughing.

Oh it was on now! Throwing all caution to the wind, and not really caring that it was going to tank her own energy reserves, Strengite decided to toss in the ‘special’ action that she could do as a captain that the little s**t of a LT couldn’t do… teleportation. One minute she was standing where she had been, the next within easy striking distance of the girl zipping past. Once again she threw her dagger but unlike last time Strengite didn’t wait to see if it did anything, instead she teleported again, threw her dagger again, and again.

Until she came to a stop leaning against one of the brick pillars breathing heavily. Teleporting wasn’t easy, it was getting easier but it still sapped her something fierce.

Quote:
Taffe was expecting her to continue cheating, but had conveniently forgotten about teleportation. The damn captain kept teleporting all over and while her aim hadn't exactly improved she was giving Taffe a run for her money. Some of those throws came too close for comfort because the Captain was too close for comfort.

By the time the captain ran out of energy Taffe was hopping mad. She skated over to the captain coming to a halt, kicking her skateboard into her hand and giving the captain a good thwack with it.

She glared, “Cheap tricks are pretty useless if you exhaust yourself. Be happy we are on the same side.”

She dropped the board and pushed off, heading out with a ground out, “pathetic,” utter in french.

Quote:

She hadn’t done that but at least Strengite now had a good idea of just how many times she could teleport in a short period of time. So their little ‘target practice’ wasn’t a complete bust…. Just mostly. “Damn, damn, damn!” This was the whole point of practicing in an out of the way place. Was she really going to have to do this as a civilian? UGH! The captain pushed off of the brick pillar and ripped down one of her cardboard targets. There was no point in continuing tonight, she was tired and frustrated now.

“A drink sounds pretty nice right now,” She muttered as she worked at erasing her presence in the building before powering down and leaving to find a bar that was still open. Suckering a man into paying for her drinks would help her get over her humiliation. Hopefully.
