Quote:
Prompt 3 (Flurries and Flowers):Strange snow flurries have been blowing through town, frosting entire buildings. Sometimes they come out of nowhere--overnight, or in the timespan of just a few short hours. Sometimes, only minutes. Snow falls rapidly and ice coats doors and windows, sealing them shut. These snow flurries are knocking out power, and worse--trapping people in buildings and cars. Sheets of frosty ice build up quickly and have caused major inconveniences. But, it’s not all bad, if you can find a way to appreciate the small things. After these flurries, in addition to the fresh snow and ice, beautiful flowers in the shape of snowflakes have sprouted up, too. They grow in small patches and permeate a pleasant, sweet fragrance. They can grow on any surface, as long as it is covered in snow or ice. If the flowers are not kept in freezing temperatures, they melt, but for the duration of their lifespan they are beautiful, fragile things.

Ascella has been so confused by the weather as of late. It seemed to always change its mind the second she decided to go out on patrol. Thankfully so far it is looking like a snow-free day. Still cold, but at least there wasn't any crazy weather. She was determined to make the most of the day and keep her spirits up. She was confident that the weather would eventually settle down and she would be able to get back to her regular routine.

Until then, she would just have to be extra vigilant and hope for the best. With sudden snow flurries and icy conditions, she constantly had to adjust her plans and be prepared for potential events. She has realized lately how crucial it is for her to stay alert and adaptable, ensuring the safety of the people in the town despite ever-changing weather conditions.

She smiled as she continued to walk down the sidewalk, and kept her eyes open. "At least today looks pretty," she said in a happy tone. Then as if she jinked it the second she finished speaking. She felt a flurry land on her nose. She looked upward and realized the sky was about to explode.

"Oh no," she said as she quickly looked around and noticed a brick building. Ascella wasted no time and rushed towards the brick building for cover. She knew that the sturdy structure would provide some protection against the impending snowstorm, shielding her from the icy flakes and gusty winds.

Snow had not been on the weather radar tonight! If it had been, Dering would have stayed home. He’d heard about bad weather ‘coming out of nowhere’ but he didn’t realize that it actually came out of nowhere.

He hadn’t seen the clouds roll in. Fifteen minutes ago he’d been trying to spot stars through the city lights. He’d only looked up now because it seemed strangely dark, and when the temperature dropped he’d gotten suspicious.

There was another energy signature nearby but he couldn’t tell where and he couldn’t go looking. Once the snow started, the gusts were so powerful that it nearly knocked him off his feet. He bolted for the brick building in the distance, even as the sudden winds buffeted him and tried to blow him off course.

He found the building with his hands and had to feel along the wall until he found the doorway.

The air was so cold that it burned his eyes and lungs, and as soon as he was in the relative warmth of shelter, he coughed and scrubbed at his face.

…But the energy signature was close. He squinted around the room and nearly choked on his own breath when he saw another person there. “S-sorry!” he blurted. Oh, please don’t be the women’s bathrooms or something embarrassing. “I just wanted to get out of the storm,” he explained quickly, but his throat felt like a hundred tiny snowflakes had pricked at it like razors. He coughed again but stayed close to the wall.

Ascella was surprised to see another person enter the building. Ascella's initial surprise turned into relief as she realized she wasn't alone in seeking shelter from the sudden snowstorm. She felt a sense of camaraderie with the stranger, knowing they were both facing the same unexpected challenge.

However, her curiosity was piqued as she wondered about the stranger. This storm had brought them together in a pretty unlikely situation. She couldn't help but wonder about the stranger's story of how they ended up seeking shelter in the same building. Since hers was pretty boring. She just saw the snow and ran to the nearest place. Well that and she wasn't really dressed for snow. She glanced down at her senshi outfit. She really was seriously underdressed for the harsh winter conditions.

She quickly shook her head and she mustered a friendly smile and responded to them, "Oh no need to apoligize! But Hi, I'm Ascella. What's your name? I am escaping that unexpected snowstorm too. So I understand - it really came out of nowhere!"

The Squire was still a bit flustered, partly from rushing over here and partly just because of the extent of impact the cold already had on him.

“I’m Dering,” he introduced, and tried to overcome all of that so he could mind his manners. He could still feel the chilly gusts just by standing close to the door so he hesitantly took a few more steps inward.

“I didn’t think it was going to snow tonight, I wouldn’t have gone out if I’d known. I hope it passes quickly.”

He rubbed at his arm nervously and then confessed, “I don’t want anyone to notice that I’m not in bed. I don’t want to be out so late. Have you gotten stuck in these before? I’ve only read a little bit about them online.”

Ascella understood exactly what Dering meant. If she had known this storm was coming then she would not be here right now. Actually she would prefer being in the basement of her home watching a movie in their movie theater. The thought of watching movies reminded her she needed to get out of here.

"Well nice to meet you Dering,"
she said with a smile as she tried to peak outside but couldn't really see much. "I understand what you mean - i would have definitely preferred being in bed or watching a movie with some hot cocoa," she could already see it now. Her sitting in her warm house worrying for nothing.

That was when she noticed they were getting a little nervous. Totally natural she wasn't completely calm either, but she knew it was better in here than out there.
"Well I'm sure we'll be out of here in no time though so i wouldn't worry at all," she said as reassuring as she could. In her household sadly no one would notice she was missing till tomorrow. Since tomorrow was a recital and it was the one time she saw both her very busy parents.

Hearing their question she had to think for a moment. Before a similar event popped in her head. "Not one of these, but I have been stuck in a pile of white bunnies before. I had to wait for some help before I could get them off me," she said with a laugh. In all honesty they sure felt the same. She felt helpless in both.

"What have you read about them though?" she asked curiously maybe they had a way to help them out of this.

“I worry a lot,” Dering said apologetically, but offered a quick smile to make up for it. “I heard about the bunnies, though. I didn’t see any this year. Maybe because this weather has been so bad.”

Or because he’d seen some other strange things this year. To be fair, he was out more now than he had been any other winter so it felt like he was experiencing a lot more than usual even outside of being a Squire.

“I heard that the snow can get really bad. There was a news report about people getting stuck in their car for a few hours. Or of buildings freezing over. I don’t think it was an exaggeration, they had videos. At school, the window froze over so much we couldn’t see through it at all, it took days to thaw.”

Not that they were opening windows in this weather, but it was still strange to try and peek outside just to see a frosty sheen instead.

“...But I’m really hoping it’s not that bad tonight. Since the radar wasn’t predicting snow, I’m really hoping this is just a quick one and not an overnight storm or anything…”

He was trying to stay positive so he sucked in a breath and asked, “What were the bunnies like?”

“I see well that’s completely okay. Worrying just means you are seeing things others may not,” Ascella said kindly as she thought about the storm facts she had heard. Since she didn't know a thing about snow other than it was cold, and her outfits from home did not click well with it.

“Wow that’s insane! I had no idea snow could be like this, honestly this is my first time being trapped by snow. I see now it can be more formidable than I imagined,” she said hoping this snow would not freeze them in like the window they had mentioned. SInce she had no idea what she would do then.

“Me too, and as for the bunnies they were very cute and sweet. But let me tell you once they pounce on you as a group. Well, all bets are off. The fluffy bunnies can quickly turn into a fluffy ball of trouble. I will say it was warm though, so I guess that was one plus side of the bunnies making me a fluffy snow pile,” she said with a laugh thinking back to that moment. Even if the bunny group kind of trapped her for a moment. Well she would love to still see them again and pet them. Even if they did pounce on her again. It was just even now they were too cute for her not to attempt to pet. Plus being all white like that, well it was beautiful.

At that thought she quickly realized that she didn’t hear anything other than laughter. Which was a little weird, since earlier she could hear the snow pounding down outside. “Um I think we may have gotten our wish? I mean I don’t hear anything do you? Should we check?” she said. She wanted to ask their opinion first. Since going out into a snow storm in this outfit was not something she wanted to do. Not unless she was right and the snow had stopped.

Though still worrying, listening to Ascella’s story about the bunnies had brought a bit of peace and comfort to Dering, who found his shoulders relaxing and his breathing easing. Ascella had a calming voice, though he supposed that was a silly thing to think and an impossible thing to say. He almost hadn’t even noticed that the wind was’t battering the building anymore, but he perked up when she noted it.

“Oh,” he said, surprised. “Do you think it could be really over that quickly?”

He’d been so busy worrying about it lasting forever that it hadn’t even occurred to him that it might only last for a moment.

It was out of curiosity, not bravery, that he inched towards the door and peered out.

Oh,” he said again, more surprised than before.

“It’s–well, it stopped, but the snow’s up to my knee almost.”

It was spilling into the hallway but he could see how high it was even without making his way to the entrance.

“...Do you think we should make a run for it? Just in case this is only a small break?”

Ascella was so excited to hear it had stopped. The only thought in her mind was getting home at this point. PLus he was probaly right this might be their only chance.

"I think we should make a run for it! Since if its this bad now, if it starts up again we may never get a chance," she said with a nod and a smile. She quickly rushed out the door and her legs were already freezing.

She stopped for a brief moment and turned back, "Thank you Dering for being such wonderful company during this storm! I hope we meet again sometime!" With a quick wave and smile she rushed off. Eager to get home and get under some warm blankets. Since after this run through the snow she knew she would need it!
