Holland was a bit nervous today. Yuki would be meeting his parents as his official boyfriend. It wasnt that his parents wouldn't be tolerant or anything, he just worried that they would flat out embarrass him. He loved his parents dearly but his father had a horrid time calling him little peanut and his mother always chose inopportune times to try and baby him .He knew he was their only child but damn, he was 22! He wasnt 8 anymore and he was positive they've walked in on him enough times to prove it. Currently he was sitting beside Yuki at the dining room table, watching his mother as she went about her business in the kitchen to cook something for them to all have for dinner. His father would be joining them later since he was still at work. Sometimes his boss liked to be mean and chose to keep him working till very late. His father made sure that today would not want become one of those days, he wanted to meet the man that caused his little peanut's heart to be all fluttery. Hell his mini-me even spaced out at that dinner table, something that hardly ever happens, and yet its happening all the time. "Holland can you go on and set the table? Please?" The smaller man got up from the table with an enthusiastic nod, gathering all the plates and silverware they would need.

Yukio watched Holland get up to fetch all the place settings for the dining room table he was sitting at. "Please let me know if I can help with anything," he offered to Holland's mother, feeling rather like a useless lump – a very nervous useless lump. Holland's parents seemed nice enough, he supposed, since they hadn't slaughtered him on the spot for stealing their little peanut's heart. That wasn't to say that the murder wouldn't happen later in the evening. He'd heard stories about how protective they were of him, how they tended to treat him as if he was still a child. From the sound of it, they made Holland's bestie Daisy look like an amateur. For once, he didn't have any music running through his head, which was a rare occurrence, usually happening when he was very very nervous. Meeting the parents… was this what it felt like for people who were, like, normal? Like a normal couple getting parental approval before getting married? Yukio had no idea if he and Holland would ever head in that direction – soulmates and life-partners seemed to him to be a perfectly fine arrangement. But he felt certain he was going to get the third-degree interrogation as if it was the same thing. "Holland," he said quietly, "is there anything I can do?"

Holland paused mid step, walking over to Yuki, "Nooope." He leaned in closer with a more sympathetic look on his face, "Mom will wreak havoc if you help, youre a guest." He kissed his temple and continued on, helping his mother set food down on the table. Holland's father stepped through the door, hanging up his coat. Holland waved at his father, then winced when he reached down to place a kiss on the top of his head. "Hey peanut!" He moved over to kiss his wife on the cheek, then placed his hands down on Yuki's shoulders gently. "You must be Yukio, its finally nice to meet you. Name's Alderic." He went to sit down on the side of the table opposite of his son. Holland sighed, "Dad..." Alderic sighed and nodded, "Alright I wont call you peanut in front of your super cool boyfriend." He chuckled, looking at Yukio with mock hurt, "I feel like I'm being replaced Yukio..." Holland facepalmed as his mother sat down at the table. "Al hush. Yuki if you want, maybe you can help me clean up after dinner?" She smiled, picking up her fork while everyone else followed suit.

To his credit, Yukio didn't flinch when Holland's dad Alderic put his hands on his shoulders. "Nice to meet you too, sir," he said with a polite nod as Al sat down across from him and Hol. Replaced? He had no intention of replacing his partner's parents – maybe augment their obvious care and concern for their diminutive son (who could well and truly take care of himself perfectly well, thank you), but not replace. The tall young man had foregone his usual little round shades for this event, and he felt horribly exposed without them to hide behind. Glancing over at Holland, he picked up his fork as well. "I'd be more than happy to help you clean up after dinner, Mrs Savage. Honestly, I know I'm a guest, but I would like to be considered as perhaps a bit more than that." Yukio regretted the words as soon as he said them. That really made it sound like he wanted to replace Holland's parents, or somehow ingratiate himself into the family before they'd even gotten a chance to know him. He cringed inwardly, but maintained his impassive but hopefully friendly exterior demeanor. Way to get off on the wrong foot, a*****e, he thought to himself. "Dinner smells wonderful," he managed to say, trying to steer the conversation to food.

"Oh honey you can call me Mary that's okay. No need for the formalities." She smiled warmly at the young man, taking a small bite of dinner. Alderic took a bite as well, chuckling at Yuki's comment, "Well considering pea--" The glare he received from his son made him clear his throat, " Holland brought you to us, youre well on your way to becoming more than just a guest. Our kid is practically smitten with you, I can see it in his eyes. As long as you keep that little sparkle there, I'm sure you'll be tired of us in no time." Holland knew what that meant, he looked to the side with a blush. He really didn't think Yukio would do anything to cause him hurt, that much he was sure of. "So, Yukio. Why dont you tell us about yourself?" Mary asked while taking another bite of the alfredo she fixed. Holland placed one of his hands on Yukio's leg under the table. He was getting some nervous vibes from him and he felt so bad. He told his parents to not be themselves otherwise he was sure they would scare his boyfriend off.

Yukio looked over at Holland, then back up again to face his partner's parents. "Well, Mrs- forgive me, Mary, and Alderic, if I may call you that, sir." Allowing a small smile to cross his face, he put down his fork. "I'm originally from Destiny City – I've lived here my entire life. My parents are out in the San Francisco area for work. My dad's a principal software engineer at one of the big tech firms out there, and Mom is a math professor at SF State. As for me, I'm a computer programming contractor living in the downtown area. My work covers every kind of business, from defense agencies to education, depending on who hires me on for a programming gig. I'm under an NDA right now, so I can't discuss my current employer," and he gave a little friendly smirk, "but suffice to say business is good." He took a drink from his water before continuing. "In my free time, I make music. Mainly electronic dance music, but other kinds as well. I'm pretty good at it, if I do say so myself." He wasn't about to give them much in the way of details about that side of his life, not unless they asked. Reaching under the table, he took Holland's hand in his. "I'm pretty smitten with Holland too," he said, looking at him with adoration. "I love him more than anything in my life. He's so very special and precious to me, just as I'm sure he is to you two. I never in a million years thought I could feel anything toward someone else like what I feel for Hol. You have my promise that I would never ever do anything to hurt him, or let anyone else do anything to him."
