Prompt 12: Cold Blooded
Pearly white snow is a common sight in Destiny City, so seeing, ivory lumps around the city really isn’t so strange. Until they move. The ones the size of an iguana, or the mountains of small, gecko-like lizards that travel together, probably aren’t that intimidating. The ones the size of a komodo dragon? Those are scary. Though they range in size, they have a few things in common: sharp nails that let them climb up nearly any surface, sharp teeth that feel like being gnawed on by icicles, and scales so cold that it feels like being freezer-burned. All lizards seem to like sleeping in the snow, but the larger they are, the more solitary they travel. It isn’t uncommon to see one very large lizard, a handful of iguana-sized lizards, or two or three dozens (or more!) smaller lizards in a single grouping. They seem to mind their own business unless they are hungry, or if you get too close. It’s just, it’s hard to avoid them when they look just like snow--or when they fall out of trees on top of you? These lizards love the snow, and they love chewing on people, too. Whether it’s out of hunger or agitation, if you make the mistake of getting too close to one, they will attack–even if unprovoked. They’re fast. They’re vicious. They have a strange habit of disappearing mid battle with a camouflage you just cannot detect. It’s impossible to kill or capture one, and strangely enough there doesn’t seem to be any reports of these lizards anywhere. They seem like ordinary lizards, just very cold blooded. They don’t have an aura or seem to be magical, but something just isn’t adding up here, anyway.

Vaylin was stood atop a snowy hill shivering slightly in chilly air as she took recordings of the winter weather phenomena. She was testing to see if the falling snow contained noteworthy levels of energy and if if she could determine the source.

As she was taking her readings she heard a scream that broke the silence of the night air. She checked her ComTech but didn't detect any auras. Looking around the snowy forest she spotted a human civilian being cornered by a pure white lizard longer than most Velencians are tall. She had seen such beasts before, they camouflaged with the snow becoming nearly invisible among the winter landscape.

She knew the human would not stand a chance against the beast with its great strength and razor sharp claws. She jumped into action to save the human, she kicked the creature off of the human sending it clattering against a tree. She ignited her sword and swung at the lizard. She struck it across the back sending it hissing and scrambling away its movements clumsy and awkward as its senses were scrambled.

She saw the human had taken off running as well, she would have appreciated a thank you but she supposed it didn't really matter. She deactivated her sword feeling rather self satisfied at saving that human. However her internal celebration was short lived as she heard the sound of a branch snapping above her. She looked up just in time to see another of the white lizards falling ontop of her.

She collapsed into the snow with the beast putting its full weight ontop of her as she grabbed its claws before they could gouge at her face. She was struggling with the beast thinking at least no one was around to see that humiliating display. Then she looked back and spotted a familiar looking alien senshi. "Ah Cosmos damn my luck." She said under her breath as she struggled with the lizard.

A scream was always enough to attract Helene's attention. If it was a mundane problem that he could not assist with, he would simply be able to retreat before he was spotted, but if it was a magical problem, then he could intervene.

So, when he heard the scream, he ran towards it--though when he arrived, it seemed that he was too late to intervene with the initial conflict, as a very distressed civilian ran past him, pausing only for a moment--seemingly to take in pastel-blue skin and sherbert-green hair, never mind the antlers and tail--and then stumbling off again, looking deeply distressed but distinctly alive and alright. He could have sworn he heard a mutter of <******** monster lizards and alien freaks, what the ********> but truth be told, disrespectful or not--it didn't really matter.

(He supposed that, having had nothing to do with the rescue from "monster lizards," it wasn't his job to judge if the rescuee was being sufficiently grateful, but by his count, as long as they were alive, even if they were more frightened of their saviors than whatever monsters they had been rescued from, that was probably reasonable.)

Still, he continued on, to see if there might still be a fight or someone who needed backup, and as soon as he found the source of ongoing conflict, he was glad he had. Even if the situation seemed a bit...well. Watching a lizard drop out of a tree on top of someone would probably, under other circumstances, have been quite humorous. Here, though, with it looking so dangerous? Not nearly so funny.

He recognized the person pinned under a strange, massive, white lizard-beast--the Velencian Corporal he had met a few months earlier, and fought a strange bat monster with.

It seemed they were destined to meet in this particular way, over and over.

"Inhibit Impulse!"

Perhaps, as with the bat, this would frighten or confuse the creature, but not one to rely on his magic when he couldn't be sure how it would affect the situation, Helene moved in, going to sling his arm under the thing's throat and try to leverage it off that way.

Vaylin watched as Sailor Helene spoke the words of his magic as she struggled with the gigantic snow lizard. As the monster was struck by the magic it stopped trying to claw off the young Velencian's face. It almost seemed bashful before the Senshi pried it off of the woman, the lizard struggled out of the alien man's grip and scampered away quickly blending into the snowy landscape.

Vaylin sucked in a breath of relief as she pulled herself up. She dusted the snow off of herself. "Tha...thank you Sailor Helene." She said through chattering teeth as she shivered. The chilly air was bad enough but the snow had made her uniform damp causing the cold to cling to her blue skin.

She let out of sneeze pulling a handkerchief out of subspace to wipe her nose. "Sorry. I didn't realize there was a second one above me." She said a bit dejectedly. A Corporal of the Vanguard should not be so careless in her opinion.

At least the creature was gone quickly. Helene let out a breath of relief, and took a moment to examine Vaylin or any serious damage.

"I am glad I was able to help," Helene said, and he frowned. "You are uninjured?" She looked wet and cold, certainly, but those were things that could be remedied easily, and as best he could tell there was no blood, so hopefully he had intervened in time to prevent anything more than wounded pride.

Which the poor girl seemed to have in spades.

"There is no shame in being ambushed," he said, firmly. "Merely a chance to learn. If it came from above, that is a lesson to check upwards." Which, in fairness to Vaylin, was a lesson that, by Helene's reckoning, it often took people quite some time to learn. At least she'd gotten it now, and come out not too much worse for it.

"Just my pride." She said in slight jest as she shivered. She put on smile however despite the chill. "That's twice now I'll have to think of a way to thank you. But for now I should probably head home and warm up" She said with a thanks and wave as she headed back into the city.
