Quote: Prompt 13 (Winter Rainbow): Winter weather is usually fairly predictable–clouds, rain, snow, and a sunny day if you’re lucky. It’s unwise to predict anything in Destiny City, though. Lately, there’s been an uptick in unnatural rainbows. The sky almost regularly seems to be covered with some sort of pastel shimmer. The clouds have a rainbow sheen to them during all weather, and more than once you can even make out a rainbow from just the moon’s beams. Scientists claim there are just many water crystals in the air–and that checks out. During the frequent snows, it’s common to observe soft rainbow snowflakes that catch the light like tiny suncatchers. Even fallen snow seems to have an iridescent sheen to it. It’s not a common occurrence, but it’s happening often enough that you're likely to see it at least once this season. “Destiny City has to be the gayest ******** city on Earth at this point,” Aquamarine said, kicking at a patch of iridescent snow.
The hour was late and the night was dark, but the city lights still fell upon the occasional rainbow shimmer. Fresh flakes fell all around them, catching in Aquamarine’s hair and lashes. The weather didn’t seem to affect him much where his uniform provided protection, but the cold nipped at his face, leaving his nose and cheeks red and numb. Thankfully he’d had the forethought to keep a pair of warm gloves in his subspace pocket.
“It’s like it’s a requirement to live here,” he continued. To anyone else it would sound as if he were venting. Only Jet would detect the trace of humor in his tone. “Oh, you want to move to Destiny City? Sorry, you’re not queer enough. Come back and try again when your vibe matches all the sparkly gay s**t that goes on here.”
Snow crunched beneath his boots as he stopped and turned toward Jet. “Even the ******** Negaverse gets gayer every year. Is that one of Metallia’s secret requirements for recruitment? Must be queer as ********? Or does the chaos do that to you? Remember when I used to want a girlfriend?”
Disgust twisted Aquamarine’s features. He gagged at the memory.

Jet was enjoying the weather. Then again, Jet had been in a relatively good mood as of late. He was under the guise of a normal General, lest they draw in unwanted attention.
As for whether it was Metallia’s secret requirement for recruitment --
“That’s classified,” he said with as much of a straight face as he could while trying to keep the corners of his lips from betraying him as they twitched with obvious amusement.
Aquamarine was cute, although he didn’t often say it out loud because he was sure he’d be met with gagging noises -- kind of like his comment about wanting a girlfriend.
Jet thought his venting was adorable and harmless, and in many ways he agreed with him!
“I think it’s a good look on you. The snow,” he explained, stopping when Aquamarine did, but took the time to observe the way the snow fell in his hair and on his clothes instead of making retching noises.

Aquamarine rolled his eyes and gave Jet a half-hearted shove, gloved hand on the center of Jet’s chest.
“‘Cause I’m gay as ********,” Aquamarine said. He shook some of the snow out of his hair, but more instantly replaced it. “******** rainbow snow. I’d blame it on the White Moon but they don’t deserve the ******** honor. The Negaverse probably has them beat on gayness anyway. Just look at our Sovereigns. You’re gay. Or bi? Don’t ******** answer that, I don’t need to be more paranoid than I already am. Either way, you’d sleep with the Queen if she asked you to. Then Faustite’s got a whole ******** harem. Axinite’s… Axinite. He’s either sexually repressed or the kinkiest ******** b*****d alive. Hessonite’s a lesbian. Prove me wrong. And Lepidolite…”
Aquamarine paused and seemed to think on this for quite a while. He eyed Jet, searching for any clues in his expression that might suggest he was on the right track with any of this.
“I could probably seduce Lepidolite if I tried,” he decided. “We know he doesn’t have a wife thanks to that one time I got drunk as ******** and came onto him.”
Not that he’d been very successful then, but he also hadn’t been sober enough to flirt with much finesse. Aquamarine did not allow himself to feel humiliated by it.
He stepped closer to Jet, tipping his head so his hair framed his face just so, mouth curved into a teasing smile.
“Would you be jealous?” he asked.

The hand on his chest was met with amusement, and Jet couldn’t stop the twitch of his lips again. The comment about him sleeping with the Queen was met with a small bark of a laugh, but there was mirth in his eyes as he looked down at Aquamarine. Their height difference wasn’t so drastic that it was uncomfortable, but there was a very obvious tilt of their heads to meet each other’s gaze.
As for Lepidolite… Jet didn’t quite bristle, but his eyes narrowed just slightly, despite the grin that pulled at his lips.
With Aquamarine so close to him now, it was easy to lift his hand and brush the back of his fingers against Aqua’s cheek. They gently caressed along his jaw and to the back of his neck.
He pulled Aquamarine even closer to him, using his thumb to press at his jaw, tilting his head back even more, his hand at the back of his neck keeping him from jerking away.
“Do you think I’m the type to get jealous?” he hummed, leaning close to n** at Aquamarine’s lip.
Would he be jealous? He didn’t like the idea of Aquamarine seducing Lepidolite, but he also knew that Aquamarine was loyal to him. Nothing he would do would be with malicious intent towards him.
“What if I said I’d want to watch? Just to make sure he’s treating you well.”

A pulse of desire shot through Aquamarine. He stubbornly ignored it, kept a stoic face and stared back at Jet as if he was completely unaffected. If Aquamarine displayed any tells, they were so minor as to be insignificant—the way his throat worked as he swallowed; the infinitesimal fluttering of his eyelids, lashes casting shadows over his cheeks beneath the streetlight.
He didn’t pull away, only moved to place both hands on Jet’s chest, fingers curled into the front of his jacket, though he couldn’t get a good grip through his gloves. The n** at his lip resulted in a quiet inhale. Cold air flooded his mouth and lodged into the back of his throat.
Jet wasn’t normally jealous. Protective, maybe, depending on the situation, and greedy when the mood struck, but he never seemed concerned that Aquamarine might stray. People looked. Some approached, but Jet hardly ever reacted and Aquamarine had never been interested anyway.
So this, whatever this was, came as a surprise—not undesirable, but certainly unexpected. When Aquamarine had recovered from the brief shock, his mouth curved into another smirk, eyes gleaming. A dark, sensual amusement danced within them.
“I was joking,” Aquamarine said, leaning in to n** at Jet’s lip in turn. He paused for a moment, exchanging one breath for another, then asked, “Were you?”

Was Jet joking? Jet let out a quiet snort of amusement. He didn’t remove his hand from Aquamarine’s neck, although he used his thumb to caress his jaw.
“Might be fun. Seeing you with someone else, but not really wanting them. See what they could do to you, knowing how desperate you’d be to come back to me after.”
He knew he was being dramatic about it. He wasn’t sure how desperate Aquamarine would express being, but there was no doubt in his mind that there was no one else. For either of them.
The hand not on Aquamarine’s face reached around to press against his back, pulling him closer.
“Of course, I could just push you down in the snow. Again,” he teased. “I could tell you all the other things I could do, but it would probably make you blush more.”

Aquamarine shivered, then snorted.
“I don’t blush,” he argued—a lie, and they both knew it.
He didn’t fight the hand on his face, or the arm that wrapped around him. Aquamarine leaned into Jet’s touch, let him draw their bodies together. He basked in Jet’s warmth, let it chase away the chill of the cold night air. Snow continued to fall around them, hundreds of iridescent flakes that suddenly seemed of no interest to either of them.
“You can tell me in bed,” Aquamarine decided, then caught Jet’s mouth in a bruising kiss.
One moment they were locked together beneath the streetlight, two figures cloaked in Chaos—darkness temporarily obscured by glittering snow.
Then they vanished. All that remained were their footprints on the ground.
