Prompt 8 (Marshmallow Snow): Fresh-fallen snow coats Destiny City. It’s pristine and crisp, and it crunches as you walk through it. It may be a few inches deep, but it doesn’t seem to go above your calves when walking. At first, it’s easy enough to walk through, but gradually you realize that it’s getting harder to move. Every step you take feels like the snow is pulling you back in, and if you get a good look you might realize that sticky white fluff is clinging to you. The more you walk, the more it pulls, until you’re almost completely stuck. Something about the snow smells oddly sweet, and the tacky, marshmallow-like snow seems like it’s suddenly become a prison. The more you try to break free, the stickier it gets, and you’d better hope you don’t fall down. The more you struggle the harder it is to escape, but if you manage to stay still for a few minutes, the marshmallow will freeze and crystallize. When you move again, the snow will turn into a powdery dust and you can break free easily. The only good thing about this is that you won’t starve if you get trapped–the snow tastes just like marshmallows.
Since her mother decided to end her grounding early, Annie decided that it would be nice to play out in the snow, but not at her house. The park was where she decided to go for this little excursion. The snow was fun to roll around and play in, she even made a pretty decent snowman for someone that did it on their own. She had so much fun that it was time for her to be heading home. After sending a text to her mother, Annie made her way through the snow to get to her car, not even noticing her pace slowing down till it felt like she was walking through molasses. Try as she might, she couldn't move any faster. “What the ********?” She looked down, blinking when it seemed like she was walking through a different substance entirely. In fact, she tried to steer her mind from the gutter since things that are white and sticky really didn't land in the normal thought category. “Did Godzilla just show up and j**z?” Of course this would be ridiculous but also something for her to laugh at with all the maturity of an eighteen year old. Taking a small breath, she tried to move again, only to find that the whiteness was trying to pull her back, almost like it had a mind of its own and did not want to let her go.
Okay, well she would like to go home and shower, maybe eat pizza like her mother promised. Which meant that this white s**t had to let her go. Annie reached down and started scooping and tossing, wrinkling her nose at the sweet scent that hit her nostrils. It smelled familiar which disturbed her because if she was going with the notion that this was Godzilla's j**z then no way in hell is it supposed to smell sweet. Her mouth started to water though, it's been a minute since she ate and while she didn't want to, Annie scooped up some of the white sticky fluff. A small mouthful was all she needed before really chomping down on it. Marshmallows! Is that what she was stuck in?! Because got DAYUM she could literally eat her way back to her car. The redhead remained still while she ate scoopful after scoopful of the marshmallow goodness. She didn't notice the fact that the snow started to freeze over and crystalize, too distracted with the now tasty snack that she was eating.
Eventually, Annie stopped eating and looked down at her feet, “Oh….I can move again! Sweet!” She scooped up a nice handful of the snow while heading back to her car. On the drive home she ate her souvenir, wondering if she should share some with her mother just so she could understand what she was about to tell her. After thinking about it for quite some time, she decided to keep it to herself, but she did send pictures to the bestie group chat with all the pictures ever. Some of the titles were weird, like why was she naming the white powdery stuff Godzilla’s j**z? One of her besties texted her back with a weirded out emoji while the other just straight up called her weird. Maybe she should've saved a little for her besties just so they could taste what she was talking about. Yeah yeah she knew Godzilla didn't exist but how else would you explain being suddenly surrounded by white sticky stuff? Either way, she parked her car and made her way into the house so she could take a shower and head to bed.
