Sliding into her new life as a Mauvian, as a corrupt, had needed a bit of adjusting. Desiree had gone back home but stuck to hiding and watching as people came and went through the house. It hurt to hear her musician, Aloysius, calling for her and trying to find her. At night at least she could still curl up next to him like nothing had changed, at least when he stayed on the small cot in the side room. During the day, she'd taken to reading through the notebooks he'd hidden beneath it. Page after page full of information and drawings of all manner of things, it was a lot to take in. There was a bit about a cat like her, a mau who had helped him in the past with things and it gave her an idea.
Waiting until both Aloysius and the one called Liam had left, she came out from her hiding spot and started looking for things. The idea that she could have actual thumbs and hands if only for a little while, sounded nice. It also would maybe be a better way to figure out more things, to blend into places where being a mau or a cat would not work. Maybe she could try learning how to play music as well, she loved hearing all the different people play on the piano here, even if some of them were little ones who couldn't play well. It was so lively here when there were students, something that was happening more and more as the weather got colder and her musician looked more and more worn out.
Hopping up onto the closed lid of the piano, she grabbed the electronic tuner. It had some parts she could use, from what she had figured out from the notes she'd seen. Running up the stairs, she squeezed herself under the bed and looked for something that had been lost there a few weeks back. Pulling what she needed out from her subspace, she went to work on taking the tuner apart and working things together inside the hollow musical note-shaped keychain she had found. It was slow going though, she was getting used to working on these small electronic details with only one eye. It was harder than just the standard dodging she needed to do when walking around the house.
Time passed and she kept tinkering, squeezing wires and some crystal bits she had together until finally the thing started to glow a bit. Putting everything else away, she inspected her work before pressing the little button she'd hidden into its design. It was a big mistake though as she smashed into the hardwood slats above her, scrambling with hands she didn't know how to use to try and turn the thing off. Making a surprised sound as she managed to turn it off, she heard footsteps running upstairs. Sending her new toy away, she curled under the bed behind one of the other boxes of junk and settled in for a nap as she heard her name being called. Offering a happy trill in response to Aloysius's voice, his footsteps stopped and she went to sleep.
