Morning lessons were as common place to Tsisia as keeping up with her chores and throwing mud at Quetzal. Or putting prickers in his pillows or spicing his food or any of the other 'pranks' she liked to pull. Tsisia absolutely adored her brother and with that love that an insatiable need to make his life utterly unbearable. So long as she didn't go too far over the top discipline was never more than a stern word and a warning, but there were moments, more than she'd like, when Tsisia had to pay for her actions.

Such as being the one to prepare their bows and arrows for morning lessons. She'd woken up earlier than usual, gone out with all the right equipment and did her duty just like she'd been told.

If she rubbed Quetzal's bowstrings a little too hard and made them fray though...Well, who could know?

One day some honey or something would mysteriously find its way into Tsisia's belongings. That much Quetzal felt when he stared at the frayed bowstrings, his expression almost unreadable as those golden eyes skimmed over the damages. He enjoyed having some fun but his sister's penchant for pranks had soured his mood towards such things over the years. "I could have prepared the bows and arrows, if you didn't wanna." He murmured, a finger running down the frayed strand as he hoped it would work despite its less than favorable condition.

Still, like always he would endure. Quetzal swallowed any complaints as he took his belongings and slung a quiver over his shoulder. The little clearing behind their family home on the island had some training dummies set up, something he felt his parents did to give their children something to do rather than simply causing mischief...not that it deterred Tsisia any. Not that he minded, he rather liked the feeling of shooting arrows and watching them as they darted through the air in flashes of color.

Tsisia twisted one of her arrows back and forth between her fingers, clumsily fumbling it around like one might a coin. Someday she would perfect the trick, but for now it was messy, if not still a little impressive for her age. If her shooting could measure up to it then she might stand a chance at being the 'super big awesome winner' of the day.

Her eagerness for dominance showed in the half-hearted arrow that barely hit it's target. Whatever pompous attitude Tsisia had started the day with took a hit from it, but - well, that was just the first shot! "I'm just warming up. The next one's gonna be better. So much better."

"Sure." Quetzal simply rose a brow before nodding, his expression neutral despite his sister's display. The young hybrid was accustomed to the antics by now, only curious about how the tricks could improve and amused by them as long as they weren't pranks aimed towards him.

And then it was his turn, the boy raising his bow and taking a very boring normal stance to aim a straight shot to the target. Though the frayed string didn't help the situation, his finger slipping at the last second to send the arrow flying elsewhere.

Tsisia barely bothered to hide her laugh. She put a hand over her mouth well after the bark had slipped through, turning her eyes away as if she hadn't meant it at all. It looked like her efforts were already paying off! Quetzal looked like such an idiot right then.

She angled her bow in a different position and fired another arrow, this time skimming the edge of her target the same as before. It would have been a glancing blow, but a blow never the less.

At this point Quetzal's cheeks felt warm, the next miss nearly making him turn around and walk away from the target. But if he did that then that meant his sister would get to have more fun teasing him for being so flustered! The hybrid took a moment, closing his eyes to seek whatever patience he could find, and then he opened his gaze to pointedly gesture towards the target for Tsisia to take her next shot. Even if this was humiliating at least they would be out of arrows soon so that he could call it a day.

Maybe then he could just go wander around the nearby jungle for a bit, the area towards the spring and cove considered safe enough for them to not need protection. There were always colorful birds flocking there and he enjoyed listening to their calls, taking a moment to find solace in his little hiding spot within the trees to avoid even more pranks from his sister.

"Rough day, Quetzal? Or are you just distracted by how awesome I am?" With an outright, gloating smirk Tsisia let loose another arrow and hit the target dead center. Even she was impressed by how good she'd done, considering she hadn't managed a shot like that ever, but she couldn't show that to her brother. Nope, better to let him think she did that all the time because someday she definitely would.

"All you have to do is believe in yourself. The next ones gonna be better for sure."

"Oh look, you did it." Quetzal ignored his sister's jabs, the hybrid focused on trying to smooth down the fray the best that he could while Tsisia took her shot. He had some ointment, something more for his calloused hands but it did help to somehow stick the loose pieces together for until he could completely replace the string. "I suppose it's best to proceed now that the handicap phase is over." He murmured, the taunt making his golden gaze gleam as he raised his bow once more and shot dead center through his sister's own arrow.

"Turn." No gloating, just a cool exterior as he looked over towards Tsisia and gave a simple nod. On the inside he was dancing around, but Quetzal refused to let any of that energy show in his movements or expression...knowing that no reactions could be one of the best ways to bother his sister.

Tsisia's lip immediately curled. Watching her brother fix his bowstrings and pull himself together wasn't what she wanted. If it were against someone else then maybe, but not now! With her feathers ruffled, Tsisia's next shot wasn't nearly so clean and sailed over the top of her target as if it were mocking her.

She threw a hand up in frustration, called 'Turn', and moved back to get out of his range. She couldn't let this get to her head! Stupid, stupid, stupid Quetzal! Oh, she'd throttle him later but only after she'd thoroughly wiped the ground with him!

And there it was. Quetzal simply kept to himself, fighting the twitch of his lips to avoid smiling as Tsisia obviously lost her own temper with his recovery. "And turn." Were the only words from his lips as he let go of another arrow, the bright teal and yellow feathers marking his path to the center of the dummy yet again. How much nicer it was to shoot whenever his strings weren't completely frayed....it was just a shame that he would probably have to deal with a flurry of pranks later for winning like this but at the same time how could either of them get stronger if he held back just to appease his sister? And it wasn't as if losing would avoid more pranks, that much was for certain considering how much Tsisia always sought to get reactions from him.

Again?! He hit it again?! Tsisia could have melted through stone with as hot as she was in that moment. It would have been one thing if he'd made a few adjustments, then hit the side of the target or something, but this was just infuriating!

There was nothing more aggravating than having a plan backfire, especially when Quetzal acted as if nothing was wrong in the first place. When she lined up her shot she missed, again, and did her best to take a 'calming' breath. If she reached over and smacked the bow out of his hand word would get back to their parents somehow. So, she just needed to focus.

There was a slight tilt to his elbow this shot, the arrow going towards the side of the target rather than dead center. Still, it hit which was better than Tsisia's last few shots. Quetzal pursed his lips thoughtfully considering his options before lowering his bow again and glancing at his sister. "We could practice something else, if you'd like. Or gather some clams or whatever we can find in the nearby cove." He recognized the signs of frustration, hoping to avoid a full tantrum if they kept this up. Though would she just try to drown him in the cove instead?

Although she absolutely could have won after her latest shot it didn't feel like much of a victory. This stale mate, back and forth, the two had going was was neither a flawless or glowing win like she'd wanted it to be. The strings might have frustrated Quetzal initially, but he was good about not showing it and by the end he'd over come that problem with ease. It was enough to pull the wind from Tsisia's sails and when he suggested something else the girl rolled her eyes with a huff.

"Whatever, it's not like this was fun anymore anyway." At least they could say they practiced some if asked, not that it was ever a priority in their house anyway.

Rather than risking Tsisia's wrath, Quetzal simply shouldered his bow and went to gather their arrows. "Practice is practice." He stated, echoing her thoughts since they had at least gotten a few shots in. He would probably practice more later once he had replaced his bow strings, but for now this was plenty. "Should we just store our bows here?" There was an alcove in the tree near the target that would keep the bows and arrows protected from most weather save for perhaps a huge tropical storm, which hopefully would not be coming their way anytime soon. It was nice a sunny with just a few scattered clouds in the sky giving Quetzal hope for a peaceful afternoon....at least weather wise.

"The cove it is then. Ready?"

"...We'd better or we might lose them." She didn't say the word 'again', but it's meaning was there. Even when she wasn't playing pranks Tsisia was still just a kid and sometimes even the most well meaning acts backfired. Such as leaving your bow on the safety of the shore only for high tide to take it out to sea.

She carefully placed her bow inside, careful not to damage the feathers and shells she'd tied onto it in decoration. "Y'know, I've heard stories about kids going down to the cove and never coming back." And with that Tsisia turned her eyes toward Quetzal, leveling a stare his way.
