A VERY NEGA THANKSGIVING

The invitations had gone out over their tablets earlier in the month, with not a word spoken by General Aquamarine on the subject since. RSVPs were accepted without thanks. Most questions posed by curious agents were left unanswered. Concerns were only addressed if brought up by the Queen or a Sovereign, who had all been sent the courtesy of a more formal and politely worded version of the aforementioned invitation.

Some may have wondered if Aquamarine’s promise of a party had been a very poor attempt at a joke on the part of a General who didn’t often seem to have a sense of humor. Others who knew him better may have assumed the invitations had been sent by mistake, perhaps after one too many strong drinks.

But, as the days passed, curious onlookers would note a change coming over the Great Hall.

Someone had been decorating. Perhaps many someones, given the extent of it. Lights were strung. Streamers went up. Tables were arranged, draped in cloth and adorned with festive centerpieces. By the day of the party, the Great Hall looked as if someone had gone to every store in Destiny City and cleaned them out of their fall and Thanksgiving themed décor, without regard for whether any of it matched.

At the far end of the room across from the doors, a long table had been arranged with all sorts of Thanksgiving food—turkeys, hams, even a duck or two; stuffing galore, potatoes as far as the eye could see, several casseroles, and a variety of vegetables. There were heaping vats of cranberry sauce, boats of gravy, baskets of biscuits, and enough pies for everyone attending to have several pieces each.

On another table perpendicular to the food, one could find an assortment of drinks—water, sweet tea, various types of soda, sports drinks, juices, and a solitary can of La Croix, as if it had been found lying around and was included as an afterthought—along with packs of paper plates, napkins, and plastic utensils. A sign behind the table read: Feed yourselves.

A smaller table sat nearby, laden with teas and coffee and packets of hot chocolate, with sugars and creams and all the appliances necessary to make fresh cups of each, functional thanks to the ingenuity of clever Mauvians.

Guarding yet another table were a pair of youma. The first was Arles, a being that was (at least for the moment) half man and half wolf, dressed in tattered clothing of blue and gray, with long dark hair, fur and eyes of shadow and starlight, and a wide, toothy grin. The second was Alys, the pale corpse of a woman with the legs and talons of a raven, clothed in the shredded remains of an old fashioned dress, with an expressionless face and black eyes that stared vacantly, her head crowned by more feathers than hair. Together, they poured glasses of wine or passed bottles of beer to those old enough to consume them. Those who wished for a mixed beverage could make one themselves, or risk Arles’ experimental nature.

Music played overhead, though its origins remained a mystery. No doubt the Mauvians could also be thanked for its inclusion. In the middle of the Hall, enough space had been left to serve as a dance floor. Far from the food in a corner of the room, one could find a piñata shaped like a turkey, dressed in a curly blonde wig and tacky plastic crown, with a handmade sign that proclaimed her to be Princess Turkeymede. An old broomstick leaned against the wall near it, ready for all those who wished to take a swing to do so.

Things to keep in mind:
  • This thread will be open from today until sometime in early- to mid- December.
  • The events of this ORP take place in the late afternoon into the evening hours of Thursday, November 23rd, 2023, beginning at around 4:00PM.
  • Attendance is not mandatory. Everyone in the Negaverse has been invited, but if your character has family or non-Negaverse friends they spend the holiday with instead (or jobs that keep them away), they will not be penalized for not coming.
  • Agents and Senshi are expected to treat the Great Hall with even greater respect and care than they would treat their own house/apartment/dwelling/personal property. If things get rowdy or messes are made, those responsible will be expected to clean up after themselves.
  • Alcohol will not be served to characters beneath the age of 21. If you would like to interact with the Keepers of the Alcohol, please quote Guine for Arles and/or Sunshine Alouette for Alys! If you would prefer to puppet them simply pouring your character a drink with no further interaction, feel free to do so!
  • If you would like the opportunity to win 3 Crown Tokens, head over to the Princess Turkeymede dice game!
  • Aquamarine is also organizing a holiday gift exchange. The message for it will go out IC on Black Friday, but I'm posting the sign-ups now. All players who wish for their characters to participate should sign up in this thread!

General Aquamarine

Among the soldiers of the Dark Kingdom, two things were known for certain about General Aquamarine.

The first was that he possessed a breathtaking, otherworldly sort of beauty that captured many an eye, from the loose golden curls that often fell around his face, to the lavender eyes framed by long lashes, to the fine, fair features and well shaped form.

The second was that he was a total b***h.

Aquamarine cared for no one, except General King Jet (and perhaps himself, though even that could occasionally be debated). He only took orders from a select few, but dished them out as if he expected to be obeyed by all. Aquamarine was abrasive, rude, and insulting, and just arrogant enough to think he could get away with it (and did, though perhaps it helped that he saved his respect for those with the power to do something about it).

There were rumors, of course. A day didn’t go by without gossip passing through the halls of the castle. Some said Aquamarine only got where he was from riding Jet’s coattails. (Others preferred more vulgar accusations.) Some claimed Jet only kept him around because he looked good on his knees. Some whispered that they were actually married, but no one had any evidence for any of it. Scant few knew Aquamarine outside of the Dark Kingdom, and he preferred it that way.

Some may wonder why he of all people had decided to throw a party on Thanksgiving.

Aquamarine would refuse to answer.

As others began trickling into the Great Hall, Aquamarine was already seated with a plate of food before him. He scooped some mashed potatoes into his mouth with an expression that might have been edged with pleasure if he weren’t plagued by a serious case of resting b***h face. To most, he would look unwelcoming—definitely not the type to prepare food and drink and dance out of the goodness of his heart. (Rumors said he didn’t have one.)

Other than his face, he looked, for the moment, completely at ease. His cape was missing, probably left behind in his office. His jacket had been unbuttoned, which left a tight black shirt exposed beneath. His hair, a bit overgrown at this time of year, had been partially pulled into a high, messy knot, tied off with a lurid orange scrunchie he might have borrowed from a fellow agent without any intention of giving it back.

General King Jet

Where Aquamarine was unwelcoming in appearance, Jet was the complete opposite. He was thrilled that they all had a chance to get together and just enjoy good food and company.

Just like Aquamarine, Jet had left his cape somewhere, and had removed his jackets so it was just the black shirt that he wore underneath them that remained. While his hair could have been pulled back into a tiny ponytail if the curls were stretched out enough, he instead used a couple clips, decorated with little black cats, to keep most of his bangs out of the way.

He’d collected food for himself, although his plate was filled with more variety than Aqua’s.

“Do you want a drink? I was going to get something before Arles gets bored and starts mixing whatever he can find,” he said, a grimace replacing the casual grin that pulled at his lips. He could have sworn he heard a wolfish cackle in his head just then.

Lieutenant Brassite

This castle was like, pretty dang big! As far as castles went it really didn't disappoint with all the stone work, shadowy corners, and way too many hallways leading to way too many rooms. She wasn't the greatest at navigating this sorta place, so after being dropped off early by Chalcanthite, she got pretty lost while ruminating on whether she should go early to make sure she got the best food and best seat or it'd be better to make a showy entrance to a room full of people.

In the end, she decided to be on the early side. Anyway, a room full of strangers probably weren't prepared to appreciate Brassite in her full glory just yet. Especially if it was a room full of adults (gross). Plus she'd get a chance to watch all of them enter and get a good look at a bunch of her new peers and superiors.

Good thing the little demon maid found her and showed her the way. Brassite wondered if it was a singular senshi deal, or if the castle was actually full of magical demon maids. Every force ran on the logistics of food and such after all.

"Welp, thank you kindly, miss!" Brassite gave the maid a wave as she sauntered in behind a gaggle of other Lieutenants that started to rush the banquet table, only to double take at a guy who looked like an angel and quickly slow their pace to something more respectable. A few gave a little wave or salute, either to Mr. Angel or to the TDH sitting beside him.

Taking her time to make sure she loaded up on deviled eggs (always gone too quick), green bean casserole (gotta have at least on veggie, right), and delighted to see duck on offering (which was not to mean she didn't also grab a massive turkey leg, so she could have a nice five minutes or so of caveman vibes).

Grabbing up a coke, Brassite made her way over to sit near the dinner bosses, who had a nice view and were a nice view to boot. For a second she gazed down at her plate for a long moment and then finally asked, "Should I say like, well I guess not grace, but like, do we pray to Miss Metallia or something?"

Tama had looked over the invitation many times. It was a strange little gem and he admired its pure sass and irreverence. Aquamarine didn’t seem the type to host a party. Unless Jet had made him do it. That was a possibility. The Mauvian did not know whatever relationship the two had, but they were both present when he walked into the Hall.

Perhaps he would have to mine the rumor mill later about it. He’d been neglecting such things as of late.

With all his side projects, he’d hardly had any time to realize it was the holidays. Or perhaps it was because he was another year removed from his former life, one that had been much more in tune with Earth and a human who had cared.

Either way, the Mauvian looked a bit wary. Perhaps that was a cat’s way. Or maybe it was the shenanigans that ensued the last time he was at a party. But he was loathe to miss a party and this would be no exception.

“We don’t pray to Metallia so much as we offer oblations of energy and starseeds and hope for the best. I don’t think the Queen cares too much for turkey.”

He eyed Jet and Aquamarine. He wondered if drinks could get the two to reveal something about their relationship. Their youma seemed to be serving it up, so it was company approved.

Ethe had not looked over the invitation. At all. They had been given a tablet, but they really weren’t great at using it. They also didn’t really understand parties. They hadn’t when they were human and being youma certainly didn’t make it any clearer. Besides, if someone really wanted them, they’d just summon them, right?

Ethe would not pretend they understood humans very much.

But they did understand food.

The dog-like youma’s nose could smell it even if it was a mile away. Roasted bird of more than one variety. Rich cranberry. Savory gravy. Mauvian.

Well, maybe the Mauvian was in attendance and not on the menu.

They let both heads sniff the air and guide their paws as they came upon the Great Hall.

“Food. Can Ethe help themselves?”

The right head asked, but the left was eying the turkey on the table…

Here’s one for Hestia. Unless anyone wants a bite out of the turkey, Ethe could use someone with hands.

Thinking of family holidays like Thanksgiving reminded Jadarite of her home back in Tennessee, and of her childhood, and that was something that she generally preferred not to think about. Those memories weren't worth her time. She was past all that now.

She'd made it. She had the money now to live in the city and follow her dreams and buy herself a full dinner every day of the year if she wanted. She wasn't limited to one feast a year of dry turkey and cheap stuffing anymore. She could have steak, and salmon, and wine, even caviar.

She'd largely ignored Thanksgiving for a few years, but the invitation had caught her attention. Events like this were usually good for people watching, if nothing else.

She showed up right on time. A few people were already over talking to Aquamarine and Jet. She saw Tama, but decided not to crowd them. Instead, she went to make herself a plate with a modest amount of turkey and potatoes, then went to see about some drinks.

The youma over by the table seemed poised enough, so she gave them a quick nod as she walked over. There were some wines on the table that looked tempting, but she decided to ask, first, "What do you have here? Any specials?"

Hestia

Seeing the rumored Ethe of the Two Heads, Ethe Twiceborne, Ethe the Anti-Clifford, Hestia quickly came to their assistance. "Welcome, Ethe," she intoned with a small bow. "You may of course help yourself, but it may be easier for me to fill your plate...plates for you."

She picked up two, balancing one in her hand and the other on her forearm. "Just tell me what you'd like to start out with, there'll be plenty more later if you're still hungry."

Ethe’s tail began to wag as Hestia came over to fill them a plate.

“A little bit of everything. We want to try everything.” The left head was a little too eager and let a drip of drool fall from heir lips. The right head was a bit more composed and, perhaps, in a way, proper.

“Thank you. We wish we had hands to use, but we have not yet remembered how to access our human glamour.”

Negaverse Super Psilomelane of Mirages
Open for interactions

The wording of the invitation caught her attention more than what was on offer. Were it a simple invitation to a social event, Psilomelane would have likely passed it up without a second thought; she had studies to complete, a job to do, and a quota to gather, so she could not spare the time to go be listlessly social because another officer was having a party. But this invitation made it clear that, despite creating an invitation and organizing an event, the sender did not want anyone to come. Either it was a really poor attempt to save surly face, or there was something else to it, and that alone piqued her interest.

It took a couple of days of gathering more quota than usual, but the rest of her caseload and study time was rearranged with relative ease to accommodate a couple hours of fraternizing. Of course, she didn't have to stay that long. She probably wouldn't.

The party didn't disappoint, however. Neither did Aquamarine's begrudging acceptance of her RSVP. She pressed a knuckle to her chin as she admired the lone sign instructing agents to serve themselves whatever part of the spread they pleased. The good General even arranged for youma to be the ones who served alcohol, rather than even subordinates. Curious indeed.

She wasn't one to turn down free food, especially since she often forgot to feed herself, but Psilomelane kept an eye out for the General who was so clearly held at gunpoint to make this feast happen while she loaded up her plate with the offerings.

Negaverse Eternal Adonis of Skin
Making bad decisions

Adonis didn't mind waiting behind a cute General (Jadarite), especially when she was probably the first to be horribly poisoned by a pair of youma that had no idea about things like blood alcohol levels. He especially didn't mind waiting behind her when he had a good view. And if he eavesdropped hard enough, he'd get to hear if there were, indeed, any specials. He might even be able to discern which specials would be putting him six feet under that night! And that was exciting!! It felt like a gamble!!

"Bet they got some fancy cocktails all made up for the holidays," Adonis shamelessly interjected from behind. What was a thanksgiving dinner without some kinda boozy drink to take the dealing-with-relatives edge off! And they couldn't skimp on it due to the relative relative-less nature of this little get-together, because they still had to deal with coworkers!

"Hope they've got, like, a Purification Cocktail that hits so hard you black out n' can't remember the night before, I'd pay good money for that." Money that wouldn't be going to the electric company, that's for sure.

Youma Rat King?
Sneaking in and scurrying away from… something.

The ground was so much closer to his face. Shoes were a much bigger threat than ever before, as even a mere Lieutenant (Brassite) who wasn't paying attention had nearly crushed him into the carpet. No amount of frantic squeaking and colorful curse words seemed to grab that Lieutenant's attention, either; it was as if he simply couldn't be heard over the music and benign chatter.

That incensed him, but his ire wasn't enough to chase off his sense of urgency. The rat king with its burning crown kept glancing behind himself as he ventured further into the great hall, ever wary of errant shoes that kept trying to obliterate him. It seemed, for the moment, that he was safe.

The rat king gave a barely audible squeak to Hestia, when spotted, then Ethe, who was getting food. While the rodent initially approached, Ethe's sweeping tail inadvertently swatted it and the rat king was sent tumbling back, the crown still holding fast on his head. With an abrupt and affronted squeak, it scurried off again, as if looking for someone.

For now, it seemed that the rat king could not find who he was looking for. That did not stop him from continuing to search, however.

General Lopezite

Lopezite had a big family, and it was uncommon for them not to do anything for the holidays. It just wasn’t always on the designated holiday. Well over half the family was out of the country right now his Thanksgiving was going to be spent home alone with the dogs.

Not that you were ever really ‘alone’ with a dozen or more needy, pleading eyes, begging for food and attention.

He’d left his dogs at home, if only because he really did need to be a bit more present for Negaverse networking. He kept to himself more often than not, and while he had a few agents under his wing, he never really made any waves.

It really wasn’t his style. He did his job, there were never any complaints. Now, he was being paid for it. He’d come partly for socialization, a little bit for dinner, and mostly for an excuse to run into General Aquamarine and offer a bit of gratitude. He hadn’t come empty handed, either–though the invitation had mentioned food and drink would be provided, it just wasn’t in his nature to show up with nothing.

He’d made a tray of baklava, because even if his family wasn’t here to celebrate with him now, it was still tradition. And, if Aquamarine did not want it at his Thanksgiving feast, he could discard it as he pleased. Although, preferably not where Lopezite could lament its loss.

He arrived at the Great Hall carrying a glass tray, still warm and covered with a rubber lid. The ingredients were written on a note taped to the top of the tray, but he probably should have arrived a bit earlier if he’d wanted to secure a moment to offer it. Instead, without any fanfare, he set it at the end of one of the tables, a bit out of the way. Available, but ignorable. Just in case.

Aquamarine wasn’t very hard to find, he had a presence about him that made him stand out in a crowd. Well, that and General King Jet always seemed to be somewhere close by, so that made it a bit easier.

Oh, he’d been a bit out of the loop for too long. He didn’t recognize most of these other faces. He offered polite smiles as he made a plate, a modest amount of a little bit of everything to sample, but maybe he was just dragging that out to prolong the task of picking a seat afterwards.

“Oh yes, quite special,” Arles responded to the woman, flashing her a bright, toothy grin. He gestured to the bottles and leaned on the counter. She was obviously interested, so he would work with those.

“I can make you a beautiful rosé,” he offered, his voice a bit raspy as though he wasn’t quite used to using it. In order to be useful he was in his secondary form that night. Opposable thumbs and all. But his tail still swished behind him and other than being a little tattered from age, his clothes seemed formal enough.

He took one of the glasses, then took a white wine to pour. Then, with a flourish, took the bottle of red and poured a little in as well.

“A rosé,” he held out to her. Oh, but not before pulling a red rose from under the counter to offer to her as well.

A slightly harsher grin was offered to Adonis. His nose wrinkled as Arles looked from the long hair to the holes in his head and chest. Not that he couldn’t smell senshi.

“I would be happy to pass along your request for purification to the Sovereigns,” Arles offered with a cackle.

Eternal Kamacite

Kamacite already regretted getting anywhere close to so many people. He could wait for Cymophane and go home, probably. Maybe he could grab something to eat so he wouldn’t have to worry about eating later. But it wasn’t as though there was anything for him to do. He wasn’t exactly the most social, anyway.

Maybe he would have had more luck sneaking in as a youma… but he didn’t want people to get too used to seeing that tiny kitsune form of his.

But… he caught sight of someone he hadn’t seen in a while. Chewing on the inside of his cheek, Kamacite remained near the wall with his arms tucked into the sleeves of his robe for a while longer before crossing the distance to where General Lopezite seemed just as out of place.

Except once he was close enough to say something, he had no idea what to say. So he nodded politely in greeting, and then awkwardly shuffled as though he wasn’t sure if he should keep walking or not. Maybe he could just teleport and be done with it.

Personal Youma Alys

Alys was not a very emotive youma, nor did she seem all that invested in her current task. Her head tilted as figures began to line up at the table she and Arles had been stationed at. Though her gaze settled on them, there was something of a distant quality to it, as though she were looking right through them.

As Arles poured a glass, so too did Alys. She held it out without indicating who she meant to give it to.

General Aquamarine

Aquamarine paused with a spoonful of potatoes halfway to his mouth, eyeing both the Lieutenant (Brassite) and the Mauvian (Tama) as if he had no idea why either of them had approached him. The Mauvian he at least knew of and had been around on more than one occasion, though Aquamarine had made no effort to remember his name. He couldn’t have picked the Lieutenant out of a crowd; they all blurred together, pawns who didn’t have much use except to pad their numbers.

“What the ******** are the both of you talking about?” he asked, bordering on hostile without quite crossing over the line. Swearing was an unavoidable part of his vocabulary unless he was speaking to the Queen. “Do I look like the sort of person who gives a s**t if anyone says grace?”

He did not regret this party—not yet, anyway—but he was beginning to wonder what the ******** he’d been thinking when the idea for it struck him.

Aquamarine turned from them to Jet. “********, yes, get me a drink. I won’t make it through today if you don’t get me drunk.”

Of course, if he sent Jet away for drinks, that meant he’d be stuck socializing on his own with this Lieutenant and the Mauvian. Ugh. But he really needed the alcohol. Maybe all this nonsense about prayer and grace would make more sense after a few drinks.

Seeking a social buffer, Aquamarine searched the crowd for familiar faces and saw Lopezite (tolerable) and Kamacite (ugh) nearby. Oh well. As the saying went, beggars couldn’t be choosers. At least he’d worked with both of them before.

“You two,” he called to them. “Get over here. Take a seat.” Save me, he didn’t say, because he did not need saving, except for when he did.

Lieutenant Brassite

"Oblations? Like we all stand up and clap for her?" Well. She wasn't gonna do that by herself. But the rest of it...

Oh boy, Mister Angel had a mouth like one of the meaner nuns at St. Mags, now didn't he? "Okay, sir! I'll keep that in mind," she smiled brightly at the blonde general and politely turned her head away before rolling her eyes and mouthing a choice bit of four-letter. Wouldn't do to be disrespectful, after all!

After considering it a moment, Brassite turned back and clasped her hands over her plate. She closed her eyes and whispered quietly, "Thank you Miss Metallia for the power to ******** up those as deserve it and the magic uniform and my future youma best friend. I promise to bring back a starseed for you this week, since family get togethers mean a lotta people are gonna really deserve it after. A-....um..ama'am."

Lifting her head, she realized that the one who'd initially answered her was...a cute catboy!!!!!! "I'm Brassite, as in you-betcher-assite. My pronouns are she/her and my boss is General Chalcanthite. Are you one of the cat people from the guidebook?"

As she spoke, America loaded up a fork with a little bit of everything until it was one massive bite, which she took with extreme pleasure. Mouth full and chewing slowly, her eyes scanned the room as it filled up more and more. There was a giant two headed Good Boy! Amazing! It's cute little tail was so happy, that it send some weird rat flying about. Rats were probably not a good sight for a giant buffet but it did kinda suit the castle setting.

There were two wild looking folks guarding the real drinks, so they were probably youma as well. There was a very cool looking Boss Babe in line, and she looked a little mean in the right way. Like she'd just got done stepping on some men and came in for a snack. Role model material. There was a guy in weird lookin leather right behind her giving her the eyes, which 1) good taste and 2) he was cute but looked like he needed to be walked on some, so again, good taste.
