There were so many better things that were career-relevant and likely to help him get ahead that Ash Carver should've been doing on Halloween night. Post-Halloween morning, at this point, not that anyone was really keeping score vis-a-vis on what it counted as, except the calendar itself. But every once in a while he did have to take a day off, and if he was going to do that, a night when people were out having good times and wouldn't blink an eye at Aschera's outfit if he wore it for ease of transit was really a match written in the stars.
She really should've known better, apparently. About it all in general. One stumble over an irritatingly-large rock, and one investigation to determine that it was actually a strangely elaborate six-sided die, and the world was already whirling away around her to blackness and a path under her feet.
It might as well happen, Aschera guessed, and resolved to reserve his healthy skepticism for the morning.

Aschera kneeled down, squinted, picked up the die, and rolled the die once across her hand. That half-hearted not-really-a-roll was apparently all it took for this strange magic to take effect, and he was being -- not pushed, exactly, but almost, and not pulled, exactly, but almost -- across the squares. The tiles, maybe? Games had tiles, right? She'd rolled a five, and as soon as she was solidly situated on the fifth space from where she'd started, that pull-push-need-to-move-forward stopped.
Incredible! Amazing! Not really, fascinating as it was; whatever dog was here, it was a lot bigger than Aschera wanted to tangle with, given how pissed it sounded. Sure, he liked dogs; sure, he had a reasonably interest in veterinary medicine, despite it not being his chosen medical field; that didn't mean he had any particular interest in dealing with a furious rottweiler, or Great Dane, or a Newfoundland, or something. And wherever this dog was, it was too close for comfort.
Her fumbling roll almost dropped the die on her boots --
[5/20: A dog barks, fierce and frightening. You can hear its growl and the hackles stand up on the back of your neck. You can practically feel spittle on you. It’s close. And it’s big. And it’s angry. If this beastly dog could reach you, no doubt it would try to tear you to shreds.]

Taking a step or two forward onto the next tile wasn't actually any better! It really wasn't! Were those threads...? Aschera was reaching out a finger to touch one when there was the sound of -- well, she didn't know what it was, but she was pretty sure it'd sounded like an object hurling past her with incredible speed. And another. And one, so close he felt a cold breeze on his ear. And another, close enough to shear a micrometer off her hair --
He had better places to be! Rolling the die again was on the top of her list --
[6/20: You hear a shrill, humming noise; it sounds almost like something is firing past you–and sometimes, you even feel a sharp burst of air, like something has just missed you. Maybe, even, it does get a slice out of you. Sharp, bladelike threads seem to string up around you; you’d best be careful not to get cut on any of them between now and your next dice roll.]

The noises, here, were different. Not something moving; not noises made by simple physics. That was something else. That was some kind of entity, some kind of creature. Maybe it was an animal? But then again, Aschera reasoned, she'd just gotten Jumanji'd into the worst hopscotch line possible, so it didn't have to be an animal. It could be anything. A robot? A construct? If he stopped pretending like the rules of physics applied at all here, honestly, he thought he might be getting somewhere.
Tipping her head up didn't provide any illumination on the subject. It was too dark to see anything but some kind of movement, too far to touch, maybe angled his way? Whatever noise it was making, it was making her dizzy, and it was making her ears hurt. Best to get going--
[7/20: Something is twitching and flapping above you, and while you might be minding your own business, something is a little too invested in what you’re doing. You can’t see them, but you suddenly hear shrill, high pierced noises that are disorienting and confusing. They can bring about dizziness and pain and can cause vertigo if you’re stuck in them for too long.]

Aschera did not particularly like the beach. She didn't even like swimming. For a lot of reasons, admittedly, but it meant that he was already halfway through rolling the die again before he paused with a knot in his throat, in his chest. The song, something about it, something was --
Something was choking her. Something meant her very actively ill. She only spared the hands a split-second glance before rolling the die as fast as physics would allow.
[9/20: The smell of saltwater fills the air, and you can hear the water lapping against the shore. You hear boards creaking, and bells in the distance. And then, a song. Haunting. Ghostly, and calling you. For a second, you fall in love. And then, water fills your lungs. You’re choking, you can’t breathe. The song is loud and seems to caress you, even as a wet chill gathers in your square. Scaly hands reach for you, you gently caressing, and try to lure you into an endless sleep.]

BATS.
BATS.
BATS.
[11/20: You hear a frantic flapping above you, but that’s all the warning you get before a hoard of bats descend. They scratch and slap and screech, but you avoid getting bitten. For now. You’ve invaded their space and they seem keen to defend it. You can try to fight them, but the only way to escape them is to roll again.]

NOT BATS NOT BATS NOT BATS
[Sixth roll; doubling this roll & all further ones. 13/20: At first, the square is quiet. Nothing seems amiss. It’s unnerving in how safe it seems. But then, it only takes a few seconds before you understand why. It’s just taken a moment for them to get to you. The patter of tiny feet is rapidly approaching. There’s no light to see them, but there’s a reflection in their beady eyes. Rats. Thousands of them. Chittering, frothing in the mouth. These are strangely grotesque, mutated abominations. They’re running at you like they haven’t got a fear in the world–only, hungry. And rage. If they get to you, they’ll eat you alive. The ground is trembling with their weight. You’d better roll quickly if you don’t wind up a meal.]

Bats and rats and who ******** knew what left behind, Aschera walked into a safe space with an omnipresent, opalescent aura, and almost cried in relief. Was this it. Was he done.
She was, in fact, done.
Once he was standing in the real world again, Aschera flung the die in his hand at the wall as hard as he could before stalking off. Absolutely not! ******** no! No thanks! She didn't want to do that again!
[4x2=8. 20/20: The end; once you have arrived here you are free to leave. You will see be basked in the glow of a beautiful, opalescent aura that will take you back home. If you arrived with a guest, you can leave without them or choose to stay until they make it to the end as well. When you arrive back in Destiny City, you may choose to keep the six sided die–if nothing else, it’s pretty! Though, it doesn’t seem to have any magical qualities, that might be for the best.]
