The Orbs (15) - The cave is beautiful, but if you hope to preserve its image anywhere but your mind, you are very much out of luck. Any efforts to photograph the area are met with disappointment. When taking a photograph, strange light orbs speckle the image, blurring out everything you hoped to view. Video has nearly the same effect; the image is always blurred and catches only streaks of white orbs. Audio is distorted, replaced with an odd sound of heavy breathing and strange, whispered chanting. You can’t see the orbs naturally, but after bright photography, you can sometimes make out their fading shapes in front of you. Maybe it’s just the water vapor in the air, or small bugs making a quick escape. If you take too many photographs or disrupt the area too much, you may be the unfortunate victim of sudden cold spells, as if small, icy orbs are pelting your body; it feels like an ice cube pressed against your skin.
Cynthia was once again at the one cave that seemed to have so much going on within it this year. First it was the glowing bugs, now it was glowing mushrooms along with a bird that had apparently stolen enough items that there were signs put up around the entrance saying to enter at one’s own risk of personal possessions being removed, but she wanted to get a picture of the mushrooms and how they glowed! She had been able to take a picture of the caterpillars, which had been met with much excitement in the bug and natural community, which is why she was back here, with only her camera. She had left the rest of her stuff in a locked bag hidden away a bit outside of the entrance, hoping that if she did run into the bird that it wouldn’t steal anything but her camera.
At least it was insured.
She made her way farther into the cave, but only just. She was out here at night and didn’t want to lose her sense of direction if she lost the light from the moon. She wanted pictures but she wasn’t that desperate!
There were however a bunch of the mushrooms that she had come for closer to the entrance, but tucked away enough so that they wouldn’t be hit with any light coming from outside. Which was fine with her!
She took a few photos, then looked at her digital camera to make sure they had come out right. However, what she saw disturbed her. Instead of a nice picture of the mushrooms, there were all of these orbs in the picture ruining the shot! Was there something wrong with her camera? She decided to take a few more pictures, but suddenly felt herself getting cold and she knew that she had to get out of there. Whatever had happened, something was telling her the cave wanted to keep it’s secrets.
As soon as she made her way outside she felt warmer again, though the chill of fall was starting to set in, and took one picture of the surrounding area just to make sure that her camera didn’t have something wrong with it.
Taking a look at her last picture she let out a sigh of relief. Her camera was still working as it should and scrolling through the other pictures she had taken, she realized that only pictures of the inside of the cave were messed up. Even the picture she had taken inside looking out at the entrance, everywhere but the part that was showing the outside had the orbs blocking what she had been trying to take!
It wasn’t the strangest thing she had run into, but she had to admit that she felt a bit insulted personally. If the cave had something like “pictures will not work in here” or something else telling her that the cave didn't want to be photographed from the inside she wouldn’t have even tried. Instead it felt as if she and every other photographer was being personally targeted with this strangeness.
She let out an angry sigh, giving herself a moment to look at the beautiful night fall scenery before grabbing her bag and carefully putting the camera away. She would make sure to tell Jason about this. At least they could both agree it wasn’t the strangest, or most dangerous magical activity that they had encountered within Destiny city.
