Sooo… He’d gotten into Ellian’s car, given him the address to his apartment. Not inherently a big deal on the shallowest surface level, and he definitely could just be letting the teenager take him home from the fair, where they might have been on a date? That wasn’t what he’d thought it was when they’d shown up- separately, but by the end of it, Gideon wasn’t sure how he ought to classify it. He’d bought Ellian a ride bracelet so that they could do the attractions together. They’d shared any of the snacks either of them had picked out. They’d kissed on the Ferris Wheel. Because that was just what happened when two people got on the stupid thing together, it was practically a given, and neither of them had thought about it more than that (allegedly).

Until now, when Gideon was starting to think, ’Maybe I shouldn’t have…’

Not because it did anything to him. He didn’t feel any particular way about it. But there was this… look on Ellian’s face. Kind of a stupid, dumb teenage boy look. A weird sort of half-smile that Gideon recognized because he’d also been a stupid, dumb teenage boy at one point, and he was familiar with what those expressions meant. If it was just happy or excited, that’d be no problem.

But it wasn’t. It was ‘happy’ and ’expectant.’ Gideon wasn’t sure what he was expectant of specifically, but it was worth being wary of. Expectant for a ‘next time’ or expectant that they were something now, or expectant that anything more was about to happen here, now.

Would Gideon be all that offended if it did? All of his trepidation about Ellian was based on someone else’s experiences- Nataniel’s, specifically. Nat didn’t like his brother. Of course he wouldn’t have much positive to say. But Gideon hadn’t really had any problems with Ellian the few times they’d hung out? He was a teenager, so kind of yikes, but he seemed fun and social and generally amicable? Like, Gideon couldn’t imagine expecting perfect temperance from him, but he didn’t seem worse than any other idiot youngster.

Nat probably just didn’t really have the patience for that.

But Gideon was much more laid back, could be much more patient, didn’t often have very many issues with most people.

“Hey.” Gideon didn’t know what he was doing when he started talking, but the words formed pretty easily, and he figured whatever he could ask was probably worth knowing. His focus wandered from out the passenger window to where Ellian sat in the driver’s seat, and he reached to notch the knob for the speakers to near-silent so that he could speak. “It’s not even late yet. Tomorrow is Saturday. What else are you doing tonight?” What a dangerous and loaded question.

The Sun had set, so they’d mutually decided that there wasn’t much reason to linger. Ellian could be out all night without issue, but he figured Gideon had it a little harder. Getting around and being out in the heat probably exhausted him more than it did Ellian. But he was cool to cut the night short. It didn’t feel like he was missing out on anything as he drove Gideon home. He kept the music blaring through the speakers, shuffling through a wide assortment of anything he had on his phone. One hand loosely draped across the top of the steering wheel, the other with fingers hooked at the bottom of it.

He wouldn’t describe his expression as a ‘stupid, dumb teenage boy look.’ That didn’t mean that wasn’t what it was, but that’s not how Ellian would describe it. He was content with the night’s proceedings, so if he had an expression to match it- well, he’d never been good at hiding his feelings or seen much a need for it.

He didn’t expect anything. He didn’t! But, like, that didn’t mean that Ellian wasn’t open to whatever happened. He liked experiences with people, and he’d had a good time at the fair.

He didn’t dislike Gideon, aaand…

And sue him for being a teenage boy with a healthy curiosity for a certain variety of activities and being a little enthralled by the possibility that maybe the night wasn’t over. “Didn’t have plans,” he replied with a shrug and a little smile quirked in Gideon’s direction. “Set my whole night off for you. And the fair, I mean. So if you want, I can hang around.”

Now they’d just about made it to Gideon’s apartment, pulled into the complex’s parking lot. He only needed a bit of guidance from here, to get them home. “Building number?” He prompted, dark gaze scanning the barely-lit building indicators that were only just noticeable. “This is actually kind of a nice apartment complex. I dunno why I just expected you to live like… uh, kinda frugally?” Which felt like the nice way of saying, ‘I expected you to have a cheap place because you’re single and young, and aren’t you an intern- that doesn’t feel very lucrative.’

“Building three. Hook a left at the fork.” He gave a flap of his hand in the right direction as they turned down a row of covered parking spots in front of a neat little tree line. Actual seconds before they pulled up to let Gideon out.

Like, if Gideon wanted to sit here and beat himself up about it- Am I stupid? Am I reckless? What am I doing? What do I want out of this?- he could definitely think of multiple reasons why this might be… off color.

Ellian was nineteen. They weren’t decades apart or anything, but Gideon could at least legally drink, and that seemed like what most people would consider the cut off for what was appropriate. And there was for sure the possibility that Ellian just wanted to make a joke of him and/or pitied him. Gideon had been in both of those places before and didn’t really fancy a return. And then there was that he was Nat’s brother, one of Gideon’s close friends, and maybe he should be most concerned about the disgust and judgment from that end.

Except Gideon didn’t think he cared about any of that.

Like, what was the worst thing that could happen? Ellian laughed at him or Nataniel decided he wanted to ******** off from being friends- he’d already ******** off once before. Wow, horrific. How would he ever live with himself?

Yeah right.

“I’m not a financial disaster. I like a decent place to bring someone home to.” Was he going to do this? If felt like the instant Gideon made any kind of move, that was something he had to commit to, unless something wicked trashy happened. …But he hoped it wouldn’t, and Gideon did feel really especially brave in the moment. He slid a hand over the center console, brushing his knuckles up against Ellian’s knee, skimmed up to lay a palm over his thigh. “Wanna stay, watch a movie or something?”

Ellian pulled his car into one of the guest parking spaces, an uncovered one around the side of Gideon’s designated building. The sidewalk out of the lot led into a grassy little courtyard with some pretty tall trees and a myriad of bushes. There weren’t any windows facing them, no lights off the building. Some of the covered spaces had a light at the corner of the overhang, but as far as Ellian could tell, no one was out. They were alone. No one could see them. In his car. He unbuckled his seatbelt.

The other’s hand skimmed up his leg, squeezed lightly at his thigh. And if Ellian hadn’t been expecting anything before, he kind of was now! His heart thrummed with excited- and anxious?- energy. There was… kind of a little caveat that he should maybe bring up…

But nah, nah, it wasn’t important. It didn’t matter.

He reciprocated with a little touch to Gideon’s arm, up his shoulder. As if that was supposed to be a question that he was waiting for consent from. Except Ellian wasn’t very patient, and no one else’s opinion really mattered, and honestly Gideon should be so lucky that the teen wanted to make out with him so he really had no business refusing regardless.

Ellian reached as he leaned across the car, drawing a hand around the back of Gideon’s neck and tugging lightly on him. And it was pretty easy to forget that Gid was five years older than him because he was hell of a lot smaller and not difficult to manhandle. It was easy to pull on him, drag his face close so that Ellian could lock their lips together over the center console, swiping inquisitively with his tongue, and nipping with his teeth. Gideon tasted a lot like ash, and a mixture of something sweet- maybe the lingering effect of the snowcone from the fair. He didn’t linger there, using his grip to tilt Gideon’s head back so Ellian could n** his jaw, his neck, sucking lightly on his pulse point.

Maybe it didn’t come through all that well, and in case it didn’t, Ellian hummed against the other’s skin, “Yeah, I wanna stay.”

Gideon’s head tipped, leaning into Ellian’s hold as he thought to continue speaking- about his guest room, if Elle wanted to stay and not worry about getting home late to his parents’ house. It was just the polite thing to offer, and Gideon wasn’t sure if trouble would be waiting for Ellian at home because of the late hour… He didn’t want to push or imply that he cared one way or the other, but the option was available for taking-

The words caught in his throat as the other boy’s lips and tongue and teeth were on his, and one of God’s own hands trailed from his chest to hook up around Ellian’s neck. Elle was a bit impatient, but Gideon decided he preferred to think of it as ‘enthusiastic.’ Ellian was enthusiastic about kissing him. Had a more pleasant ring about it.

At a particularly ‘enthusiastic’ punch of teeth just beneath his ear, Gideon twitched back a few inches with a breathy huff and then a more serious, “Hey, no marks. Can’t go into work Monday all hickey’d up.” Digits curled loosely in the ridiculous vibrant rainbow of Ellian’s over dyed hair, and he amended more quietly, “No visible marks.”

And then the hand not wrapped up in Ellian’s hair swept beneath the hem of Ellian’s dark crop top and dragged the end of his stupid mesh shirt out from where it was tucked into his pants. It was never a simple getup with this boy, but maybe Gideon would be lying if he said there wasn’t any appeal to it. He looked absurd, he really did! But it achieved what Ellian wanted: it was impossible to miss him in a crowd. And maybe there was a thread of lure to wonder, ’What the hell is going through this weirdo’s head, walking around like that… Showing off his long legs and firm stomach.’

“You have abs,” Gideon mumbled as his fingers traced the divots of muscle in Ellian’s stomach, and he snorted. “For what? From doing what, honestly?”

“You’re pretty pale, though,” Ellian retorted, squinting through the dark at where his teeth had just been on Gideon’s neck as he tried to see what damage exactly had been left behind. “Hard not to leave a mark on you.” The few lamps out in the parking lot didn’t do much for his visibility. Everything was bathed in a pretty heavy layer of shadow. But if he notched his thumb up under Gideon’s chin and tilted his head to the side, Ellian was pretty sure he could see a bloom of faint red just beneath his ear. He couldn’t imagine going out of his way to prevent it, though. Ellie had never been one to excel at denying himself anything he wanted with just the force of his own will… And besides saying ‘no marks,’ Gideon wasn’t exactly telling him not to do anything else.

A smirk tilted his lips as his hand slipped away from Gideon’s jaw, letting the redhead meet his eyes again. “Dunno whatcha mean ’for what?’ They’re for having? For showing off to my boyfriend? For petting- Nowait, not-”

It was a pretty rare occurrence that Ellian embarrassed himself. Just wasn’t a mood he found to be practical or useful, and why should he be ashamed of himself, anyway? People should either enjoy his presence or ******** off away from him. But there was something maybe a tiny little bit mortifying about saying out loud that any part of him was for ‘petting,’ like he was a dog or something. And if he was being perfectly honest, he and Gideon were barely even friends so it seemed like there was a significant amount of room to say something he’d have been better off keeping in.

“I just mean, y’know, seems like you don’t mind them being there.” Since Gideon’s fingers were tracing patterns so featherlight across Ellian’s skin that it was enough to make him shiver.

Oh, if he’d thought Ellian had a dumb, stupid boy look before, it wasn’t even comparable to the smirk he wore now. Even as dim as it was, the scant light still caught in Ellian’s eyes, making his dark red irises glimmer. And… maybe he was kind of attractive, despite being nineteen and his best friend’s brother. Those things felt like they should be enough to keep Gideon away, but… It wasn’t working out that way, so far, definitely not when Ellian quivered under his fingers. “Hm.”

His hum was soft and appraising, palms wandering over Ellian’s skin as best they could, given the awkward position of being inside the car and trying to twist around to have both hands on him, and face close enough that he could feel the brush of Ellian’s breath against his ear.

’Showing off to his boyfriend.’

Gideon didn’t want to overthink it: he knew (if everything Ellian said could be taken at face value) that the younger man didn’t have a ‘boyfriend,’ so the word wasn’t meant to imply the presence of someone specific. But he also knew that Ellian didn’t have any particular preference between men or women, so to say ‘boyfriend’ right to Gideon’s face, with Gideon’s hands sweeping out to his hips and Gideon’s lips hovering half an inch away from his- that seemed like it should imply something.

…But he didn’t want to overthink it, and he definitely didn’t want to assume.

Gideon whetted his lips with his tongue, and gave the most dismissive roll of his shoulders he could manage. “No opinion,” he replied in a falsely dispassionate tone, and he didn’t even have to have his eyes on Ellian to imagine how wounded someone so self-absorbed would be to have been denied a very clear lead-in to a compliment. At the risk of the words being taken too seriously, Gid braced a palm against the back of Ellian’s seat, and the other hand dragged a fistful of mesh shirt up to press close to Ellian’s lips, as if asking him to hold it in his teeth.

He craned himself over the center console, twisting and dipping down in the awkward, cramped position of sitting in the passenger seat, and leaned in enough to lave his tongue up the line of Ellian’s abdomen, and was, unsurprisingly, rewarded with a little shiver, a hitch in Ellian’s breath, pretty dark eyes blown impossibly wide and looking down at him.

A hand fumbled for the door, hooking into the handle before Gideon knocked it open with as hard of a shove as he could manage with the angle. “Alright, out of the car,” he ordered as the door to the mustang flapped open. “Go on.”

“‘No opinion?’” The repeated words fell hushed off Ellian’s tongue.

No.

Opinion.

If that was not literally the most insulting thing anyone had ever said to him. The teen wasn’t so deluded that he only expected compliments, but even insults meant that someone thought something of him! And that was really all Ellian wanted- just to be noticed. It didn’t have to be good. But this was hardly the first time Gideon had intentionally insulted him. Maybe that was just his humor… Maybe that was how he talked to people he liked…

And Gideon had to like him, right? I-if he was… If he was, uh-

Heat flared up in Ellian’s cheeks, and his impulse was to shut his eyes, but as soon as he’d scrunched them closed, he thought, well, that wasn’t as engaging, and it wasn’t like he had anything to be embarrassed about! He wasn’t doing anything, ah… Strange… Wasn’t tonguing places on anyone else’s body. He shuddered. Almost caught the hem of his own shirt in his teeth.

But Gideon watching him from beneath heavy lashes definitely made Ellian feel like he was doing something. He was going to grab him by the hair and hold Gideon’s face there against his abdomen, until-? Uh- he didn’t know. Until he felt like not? But the bizarre sensation struck him that if he actually took a fistful of those red strands, it would cause some kind of shift that Ellian wasn’t sure he wanted, because he didn’t know exactly what that ‘shift’ would be…

“You kicking me out of my own car?” He croaked, attempting to summon some confident bravado, but falling a little shorter than he would’ve liked.

Gideon shoved the driver’s side door open, and Ellian practically rolled out of his vehicle. All his clothes fell easily back into place, the outside air felt crisp and fresh against his skin and in his lungs, and he blinked dazedly at how bright one of the overhead lamps in the parking lot were.

He kinda expected, maybe that was sort of it? But Gideon rounded the side of the car, ushering Ellie to follow him to his apartment with a sort of urgency that made Ellian’s pulse pick up expectantly. They made it to his door, the first time Ellian had ever been here, but he was about to become intimately familiar with the backside of Gideon’s front door.
