The Leaves (7) - With the changing seasons, there are piles of leaves all around Destiny City. It’s a difficult job to try and keep up with them all, and sometimes the allure of these leaf piles is impossible to ignore. Maybe they just need a good kick? Or, who doesn’t want to relive the childish joys of their youth? And no one’s around to see, right? So why not jump into a pile of leaves? Oh–because, when you do, you jump through one pile and come out of another somewhere else across the city. The leaves all seem ordinary, but there’s a few odd seconds between when you jump into the leaves and when you jump out; it feels like falling, tumbling, somersaulting through the air. It’s not scary, just odd. You see walls of leaves–brown and orange and yellow and red–and they crunch magnificently. Overall, it doesn’t seem menacing, just a bit of trickster fun. If you try to step into, or jump in a pile of leaves again, you might wind up somewhere else entirely–or right back where you started.
One of the small, personal pleasures Hestia always found this time of year, was that of the piles of leaves. All shades of red, gold, brown, and the way they crisply crunched underfoot. The way they gathered in corners like a polite little mess, ready to be swept up and away...or scooting past, ready for a little chase. Best of all, though, the autumn leaves of Destiny City sometimes took a turn for the outright magical, transporting one across a park, or even the whole city.
There was something about jumping into a giant pile of leaves and coming out elsewhere that spoke to the rarely indulged child in her. They made her want to play, and even laugh for the joy of it.
And tonight, with ill-gotten energy in her pocket, a general king already laden with food in his office, and no other pressing duties on her schedule, the drifting piles of leaves called out to her. Drew her near. And scattered uproariously as she jumped first in one and then another, leaves bursting up and scattering everywhere.
The third time was the charm, the weightless freefall of her body as it tumbled down and down and there it was, another pile of leaves in a completely different area. Her hair in it's long, dark fall was covered in leaves and she gave a small, low laugh for no specific reason.
Turning her heads toward the Order signature nearby, she saw a familiar figure. Pyxis in all his bright and gentle glow.
Oh.
