Even though what he does know is well-earned and his opinions are often good ones, this attitude gets him into trouble as often as his knowledge keeps him out of it.

Even though he didn't follow in his family's academic footsteps, Mheg still possesses a drive to rival the most committed scholar. When he gets it into his head to do something, he is distractedly persistent, neglecting his loved ones and his own well being until it is complete.

Despite his extroverted nature and his love for the sound of his own voice, Mheg doesn't allow people to stay too close to him, especially those who actually seem to enjoy his company. He doesn't exactly push them away consciously, but his fear of commitment is very apparent and not particularly compelling to most.

Having been effectively abandoned by his parents before he could understand that it wasn't his fault, Mheg has a deep-seated need to fish for approval and the shamelessness to do so without guilt.

History: The child of a Geian mother and Shifter father, Mheghirin was only raised by them for the first two years of his life. His father left first, going back to his life as a jack of all trades for hire, and his mother forced her way through parenthood for another two years before she left him with her mother—Mheghirin's grandmother. The older Geian woman possessed all of the love for her charge that his parents did not, and the boy was raised with affection from that day on, encouraged to attend the Academy of Steam as she had. As his mother had.
When he was six he headed off to school for the first time, quickly learning that he liked knowing about people. He liked thinking about them, making up stories about their lives, and eventually discovering their real tales and seeing how his measured up. He liked to predict how they might act, to think of better conclusions for his classmates than the ones they might reach on their own.
Shortly after his eighth nameday, Mheghirin stumbled across a recently transplanted Lightning detective who he placed upon a pedestal that didn't start to crack for another five years. The man was a gruff, chain-smoking ruffian, and Mheghirin promptly based his entire personality on the stranger. His grandmother tried to dissuade him from interacting with Eledal, but that only made those meetings all the more alluring. Thankfully the detective wasn't a bad man, and after some initial reluctant irritation, Eledal took Mheghirin under his wing. He gave the boy his nickname, unknowingly stripping Mheg of the last vestiges of generational responsibility and setting him on his own path.
They became partners of a sort, often mentioned in the same breath, and Mheg gained another parent. This arrangement lasted until the middle of the boy's fifteenth year, when he solved a case of a missing heirloom a full six hours before Eledal. It wasn't quite a 'student has become the teacher' moment, but it opened Mheg's eyes to his own promise and raised his expectation of himself. He stuck around Valmon for a few years after that, but eventually he took his skills on the road, making a name across Belrea as a private investigator. His grandmother loves him fiercely, but she will never cease to remind him of the potential he squandered by not attending the Academy.
