Changes
There was quite a bit of commotion on the Misty Maiden the morning following an allergy outbreak within the crew. They had been sailing around Kahi when a strange cloud of pollen appeared on the horizon, Emiyn not catching all of it in time and the shimmering substance ended up irritating a good portion of the crew. What they had not expected though was that the irritation would actually result in changes, everyone shifting into different hues over the new few days as their skin cracked and peeled into new colors and even their hair or eyes seemingly shifted.
Emiyn was suffering from some of it himself, the Matori having to rinse out his eyes repeatedly and wear some drops that were given to him by Fran to help with the stinging sensation. He had already woken up early this morning to find that the tips of his hair seemed slightly darker, not a major concern to the Matori but even his eyes seemed a bit darker in color instead of being simply rimmed with red from the irritation. "Hmm. I suppose I wasn't immune, after all." Emiyn finally managed, holding up a small hand mirror as he inspected his face and pondered over the changes. As long as it wasn't some sort of illness that would slowly kill them like others he had heard about then some physical changes like these were acceptable, more so for Emiyn who felt like it was a subtle change and nothing drastic like what others in the crew were currently suffering from.

Yokka considered herself lucky to have missed out on such an adverse reaction to the pollen that had mysteriously filled the air. Though concerned when Emiyn shared that he wasn't feeling well the night before, she could sleep well knowing Fran had her little concoctions to help ease her partner's irritations. She had lingered in bed that morning; until someone further down the ship let out a wail of surprise. It didn't take her long to throw on her clothes and dart out to find out what was going on! She sought out her sons to make sure they were okay, and then found Emiyn. "I take it you didn't dye your hair yourself?" she asked redundantly as she reached out to inspect the rich ends of Emyin's hair.

Emiyn twisted the end of his hair in his fingers, studying it. "It's very subtle, but I didn't dye it." He replied with a small chuckle. "Though it would be magical if somehow I had caused this." The Matori pointed towards his eyes, "I've only heard rumors of potions and deals creating different colored eyes before, this is new." His eyes did seem different, right? Emiyn looked towards Yokka before having to quickly cover his mouth with his arm, a sneeze surprising him. It seemed that even though the air was back to normal, with just the salty ocean breeze instead of a cloud of pollen with it, that Emiyn was still recovering from the reaction to the pollen. Even as miserable as he felt and looked with the sniffles, Emiyn couldn't help glancing over at Yokka with concern.
"How are you faring?" Was she alright? He rubbed at his watery eyes, the Matori blinking them clear after that sneeze, and stared at his companion. Nothing seemed amiss, that was good. Emiyn suppressed another sneeze, closing his eyes against the sensation and finally opening them again with a sigh. There was too much chaos on deck for him to be dealing with allergies at the moment! Out of all things...

She nodded and leaned closer for a look at the new shade in those eyes. She was relieved it was subtle changes... It would have been a shocking adjustment if those eyes that she had gazed into over the years had suddenly turned purple... She yelped at the sudden sneeze and needed a moment before she let out a laugh. "By the depths, you're gonna give me a heart attack." Her expression warmed as the focus turned to her. "I'm pretty sure I'm the same as when I went to bed last night." With a coy smirk, she pressed up against Emiyn to again gaze up into those new eyes and batted her lashes. "Mine don't look different, do they?"

"Sneezing, the scariest tactic on the seven seas." Replied Emiyn, trying to be funny despite feeling miserable as he fought against the sniffles. He had never had such an awful reaction before! He could only imagine how busy Fran was at the moment, especially since this pollen came with more than just sniffles for others. Maybe he should just sleep in the crow's nest for a few nights? Yokka would probably want to smother him with a pillow if he kept sneezing and sniffling throughout the whole night like this.
But Yokka was peering at him now, her coy actions taking him by surprise. "Hmm...I don't know." Emiyn managed after a moment, a chuckle leaving him despite everything. "I think they just get prettier by the day, it's so hard to tell when they keep doing that." The Matori reached out to cup her cheek, enjoying a tender moment before suddenly pulling back and stepping away. Seriously! He was so annoyed, it felt like another sneeze was coming along. Taking another step back, Emiyn shook his head and held out a hand dramatically as if to stop Yokka from getting close again. "I'm too dangerous, I don't want to give you that heart attack." Sneeze already! After another moment of waiting, the burning sensation there but the actual sneeze missing, Emiyn gave a soft sigh. "Maybe...we should consider some tea while the others run about on the upper decks." Perhaps some of those herbal teas he had stored away would help out? Either way it was disappointing, Emiyn wanting to play around with Yokka but not wanting to sneeze in her face with how bad his allergies were.

"Don't underestimate the power of the element of surprise." Embarrassing as it was to be startled by a sneeze, Yokka was able to see the humor of the scene. Of course, a fresh heat of delight spread along her cheeks at the compliment to her eyes. Ahh, no wonder she kept him around~ She winced with amusement and leaned back to keep clear of the next sneeze making itself obvious. That was a sneeze coming, was it not? Her brow knit slightly with sympathy while her lips pursed into a pout. Of course today found her in a playful mood... "A big cup of tea and some cool towels to dab over your eyes." She reached out to take his hand and tugged him back toward their rooms. "Do you want me to see if Fran has any special teas available?"

Emiyn made a disappointed expression, his face more akin to a disappointed duruf than anything else at the moment as he fought against the sniffles. "Spirits, if we get Fran involved then I'll be on cabin arrest for the remainder of the trip." He protested as he followed Yokka back towards their rooms, the Matori playfully dragging his feet even though he did eventually trudge all the way back to the familiar doorway that led into their cabin.
"We have some herbal tea in the cabinet." Emiyn gestured towards the shelving that had been built over the years, the room expanding with more furniture and such the longer they stayed with the crew and made it into a home for their family. "If I can just get a bit of rest, get over these allergies then I'll be back to looking into those pretty eyes without life-threatening sneezes." He teased lightly, raising his elbow to cover his mouth as he let out yet another sneeze.

"Fran's busy enough trying to calm everyone else down and figure out what happened. Asking for a bit of tea for allergies would be like a passing fly. Won't even notice." She went to the cupboard in the room to see if Emiyn was right about their stock. She had to move a couple things around, but she let out an 'ah-ha' as she pulled out the little tin. No need to bother Fran then. She set to work filling the strainer and got the hot water going. Naturally, most of the rooms held no fire places. Their own was a special case. The perks of their status. The fire pit was still tiny and shallow; just enough to heat up a kettle or a snack. Ah, there was that sneeze. She chuckled lightly and pointed to the couch. "You get comfy and put your feet up. Get those eyes ready for some good gazing~"

"You say that, but she can be very terrifying when it comes to handling situations." There was that one time when the whole crew had gotten some sort of fever while sailing and she had shut the whole ship down for nearly a week in port, not allowing anyone out until the last of the coughing had abated and they'd grown sick of eating so many citrus fruits and herbal remedies on repeat. He'd avoided oranges for nearly a year after that one, just the sight of them made his stomach twist.
"Aye, captain." Joked Emiyn as he went along with Yokka's orders, the Matori settling up on the couch that they had in the small living room area of their cabin. "I'm just glad you aren't sick." He managed, picking up a handkerchief to dab at his nose with. He needed to focus on work, not spend time sniffling around like this. The very thought brought a soft sigh to his lips, Emiyn disappointed in himself despite the fact that they weren't in any dire situation for him to be needed at the helm yet.

Yokka shook her head with a smirk. "Fine, she'd definitely notice me asking, but she wouldn't come looking for you 'til after everyone else has calmed down. Allergies will be a lower priority. As it is, you're safe for now. We've got the tea." She hummed softly in agreement and glanced at her own long hair. She had never considered coloring her hair before, but she was content enough to possibly dye it later rather than some possibly permanent change. "I checked in on the boys before I found you. Mako's hair changed a little, but he doesn't seem to be reacting as badly as you. Maybe it's because your eyes also changed?" The kettle was secured as it heated, and she grabbed a mug and the small container of honey to dribble some into the bottom.

Emiyn chuckled, the sound rough in his throat from all the coughing and sneezing. "Fair enough." He replied as he tucked his legs around his body and curled up onto the corner of the couch. "I guess we're fortunate it hit us while we were moving, not before some major trade at the port." He couldn't even imagine the chaos that must be happening at the port cities right now. The crew would probably be too busy fussing with their appearances and sniffling to do anything productive with unloading crates and the like as well.
"I see." Emiyn nodded thoughtfully as he thought about his own allergies. "Could be that. Not that I know much about changing eye colors, but it might be fairly irritating for them to swap like that." He joked lightly, patting at his nose again before lowering the handkerchief with a sigh. "As the captain says I'm also the delicate looking one so it wouldn't surprise him if I suffer the most from this." A wind would blow him away, if he wasn't so magically inclined with controlling nature and the like. "So Ronan didn't change either then, it's so strange. Once I'm better I might have to get notes with Fran to see if there's any patterns on who got affected and how much they actually changed." If it wasn't for that pollen he'd nearly consider this some elaborate prank, but the unnaturalness of the stuff had really unsettled him when they first sailed through it and now he knew why. It was too astounding to be fabricated or anything like that, plus his body knew exactly what was going on and no amount of washing would make anyone revert back from the changes.
"Still, hopefully some tea and rest will make me better in no time." Emiyn mused, trying to stay optimistic even as he could hear the pounding of boots through the hallway as others didn't take quite too kindly to their changes.

Yokka snorted out a grateful laugh. "That would have been a disaster. At a port, everyone would have scattered to the winds and nothing would be accomplished. At least the crew is mostly contained here." The mug was filled with the infuser, hot water, and a fair dose of honey. A narrow spoon stirred the contents gently, and she carefully carried it over to the end table next to the couch. She cocked a brow at the mention of the captain and snorted again while a smirk of playful amusement danced on her lips. "Don't worry, dear. As 'delicate' as you may look, we all know you have a stronger will than most of the crew combined. You always get back up." Despite her teasing, Yokka meant every word. Emiyn was just so fun to tease. "You can worry about Fran and her notes later. The tea will be strong enough in another minute or so. ..Is there anything else I can do to help?"

"A perfect time for any thieves that didn't get caught up in this madness as well." Agreed Emiyn, shaking his head at the very idea. At least they were lucky in that then! Worst case he would just have to drag some panicked sailors out of the ocean, something that would be fairly easy for the mage at least when he wasn't sneezing like crazy.
"And this is why I love you." Acknowledged Emiyn with a small grin at the comments from Yokka. He thought for a moment before shaking his head, Emiyn just getting more settled into his seat and patting the place next to him. "Just your company is fine, I'm starting to feel better already." Well, for the most part if one ignored the sniffles and the urge to sneeze once again. At least Emiyn knew that so far the changes had only irritated others like any other allergy, it simply came with a bit of color variances that was all. So for now he just had to ride out the season and come back swinging as soon as his allergies calmed down...hopefully before they arrived at the next port at that.

With a light laugh, Yokka nodded and plopped gracelessly onto the seat beside Emiyn. Despite it still being fairly early in the day, she sighed and leaned her head back to relax. "Considering the state of the crew, I doubt we'll be doing much of anything today." She smirked and even pulled the footrest out from under the couch to use. Usually one to enjoy keeping busy, she was content enough today to avoid the ruckus of everyone outside of their cozy room. There would be plenty of time to adjust to the changes her family now sported.
