Dragging Naeria out for another night of scouring the city sidewalks for further cubes had proven less than successful. They'd even entered a human shop under glamour, and found enough cubes, well, dice to use the human term, to fill a bathing facility but...well... Rhysi had bought some. Not as many as she would have liked, but they had all proven useless. Even though the keys had been "dice", it was clear that not all dice were keys. The random nature of the trial truly pervaded everything that touched upon it, even just being able to enter it. So she shelved it for the time being, instead making good on her end of things, aiding in further acquisition of strange mushrooms. Nerd stuff. Fortunately, these plans were immediately derailed the instant Rhysi noticed a couple of dice, distinctly very cool and nice looking, laying on the sidewalk leading into the park. "THERE!"

Naeria was always willing to help out others with their research. Usually it was because she saw the way that the research could help Velencya or its people, and while she did think that more pocket dimensions could be useful, in this case she was mostly following Rhysi around because she became nervous at the thought of her trying to go back to that awful place that they had encountered by herself. It seemed that death there was very possible, and yet Rhysi was spending nights and nights scouring the city for a way to go back. At least Naeria had learned about dice, and human entertainment. She had bought a set for herself when they had gone into the store. They were purple, with specks of flaky glitter in them, and she'd put them on her desk with her other treasures so that she could stare at them. It had been long enough that Naeria thought maybe they would not find another, but they did. Rhysi seemed so excited, and Naeria walked slowly behind her. Silently, Naeria nodded, picking up a dice and squeezing her eyes shut as it whisked her away.

Space 0 to Space 2Once again the same sort of space, and Rhysi immediately latched onto the consistency. "The same place," she stated with a nod. It'd take more testing to be truly sure all the magical dice of the city led to this same area, but she felt comfortable taking it for granted at the moment. Rolling her die and snapping it up, she walked slowly forward, eyes searching and ears perked for an hallucinatory effects. What she got in turn was not a hallucination, but a full body slam that would have knocked her into the waiting abyss below if not for the invisible walls. "You ******** piece of s**t," Rhysi grimly intoned as she righted herself, and drew her short bow. She'd yet to manage the same inflection spat out by Chaos's Fire Lord, but she assumed it would come with time and use.

Space 4Naeria watched as Rhsyi quickly rolled her dice, and she took a moment in the relative safety of the starting square to try to observe their surroundings before they moved on. When she started to yell in what was either called slang or curses, it did not seem to have any effect. "It looks like what we saw in the store," she said, as she took in the squares for this second time. "Like the games." She rolled her dice and moved two squares farther than Rhysi. Immediately, she was hit with a scent that was a mix of infection and early decomposition. Her lips twitched. She understood it was part of the cycle, but she preferred when things were more broken down. Then there was something crawling and reaching for her. Was this meant to be entertaining? It was not.

Space 7"A test can be a game," Rhysi insisted, not yet willing to give up the theory. Another roll, this time higher, which she was finding to be particularly satisfying. Recalling their previous time in the supposed game, there were many high numbers. Moving ahead with her die, she used her comtech to scan the area, but only found Naeria on the readout. Even when the sounds of many, many smaller creatures flying and screeching surrounded her, the only being of note was her companion.

Space 10"What kind of test?" Naeria asked. She rolled a six, the highest number, which she found to be a relief, since it meant they would get out of here faster. Now that she was actually here, in the moment, it did not feel like she was getting much research done, because her mind was still focused on moving forwards, and not falling victim to anything too dangerous. It did not take physical skill, though. No matter what the squares held, all she had to do to keep moving was to keep rolling the dice. That thought was a relief, because in this square, she began to sink.

Space 12"Mental fortitude," Rhysi replied, rolling once more even as she tried to shake off the wave of dizziness the noise brought. She moved more quickly now, understanding that the squares increased in intensity the further they moved down the gameboard. Point proven when not only did the area she stop in involve harsh and alarming cries, but strange music that added a unsettling counterpoint to those screams. Invisible forms ran past her, though none trying to shove her this time, instead their was a frantic atmosphere, infectious to the point where Rhysi had to stop and focus in order to remain unaffected. The increasingly thick smoke did not help matters in the least. "Enduring intense stimuli," she coughed out.

Space 11Naeria rolled the dice, and couldn't help the feeling of dread when the number that came up was a one. She moved forwards, but only a single square. She didn't want that. She wanted this over as quickly as possible. That meant that Rhysi's theories, sounding distant over the high pitched squeaks that were suddenly surrounding her, made sense. Doing this multiple times could train mental fortitude, or test it. It could also, a darker part of her thought, as dark wings and small furry bodies surrounded her, so close that it felt like she couldn't breathe, be a very effective form of torture. She grit her teeth.

Space 17Escaping the square with another roll, Rhysi drew her weapon once again. She remembered how things had escalated the further along she went last time. Progressing quickly down the board, her caution proved correct as Rhysi reached her next square and was immediately surrounded by howls and a sense of incoming threat. Beasts, yellow-eyed and in numbers that shook the ground with their rushing onslaught. One hand raising her short bow, she tossed the die with her other.

Space 14
The floor here was simply sticky. That was not as bad as the bats, at least until she looked down. It was a web. She was standing on a web, and had no balance.
She could see the spider, hunched on the other side of the square.
It was possible that this place could also test reflexes, she thought, as she threw her dice to the floor once again.

Space 19She was nearly through, the next square was the end, and counting in her head, and comparing to the last time, both were "game boards" were twenty squares long. Making the minimum amount of rolls 4, and the maximum 20. Both last time and this time, both she and Naeria likely excelled at the luck aspect of this test, and had to only minimal challenges. Nothing happened for a long stretch, and she was about to roll again when the ground gave out from under her. "Collapsing!" Rhysi shouted as she began to fall, and fall, everything coming apart. Had the small dimension been damaged somehow? She considered the possibilities calmly even as her hands and body scrabbled for purchase somewhere, anywhere. And at last, found something to hold onto. Pulling herself up, the world reverted. Another illusion? "Nevermind." One last roll was all that was needed.

Square 20 She saw Rhysi fall. It was not an illusion. She watched that she was standing on collapse, and her only find purchase by her fingertips. Naeria was rolling her own dice to get away from the spider, and it landed on the six face, the highest, but that didn't mean that she was fast enough to do anything. She couldn't stop her heart beating in her chest. She couldn't stop the thought that went, what if there is real danger here? She'd come to keep an eye on Rhysi, but had that actually helped? If she hadn't been able to pull herself up, what would Naeria have done? She reached the final square, and the warm light that would take them back to the city. "I do not think we should come back here," she said.

Square 20Rhysi was still panting from the genuine scare of that sudden fall. Naeria didn't seem to pleased with the game, despite them both doing rather well once again, this time. She considered giving the other the odds of such a thing, and what a third game might look like, but then again... This was more a curiosity than a personal project. Their time likely was better spent elsewhere. "Agreed." Exiting with Naeria, she pulled out the first die and compared it to the last. Holding them close, there was an undeniable glow emanating from the two. Eyes widening at her companion, Rhysi found herself eager to get back to the base and perform some new tests on the things. stari_maga fin heart lets send them to do more holiday science for christmas!!!!
