Quote:
Bat Behemoth (2) - Construction, deforestation, typical Destiny City mishaps–you never know what you’re going to get around here. It starts with a squeak in the sky, and the flapping of heavy wings. If it’s dark enough, maybe you don’t even see the giant bat descending on you. They were pests a few years ago but seemed to have cleared out for the most part–except for a stray one here or there. This one is large even by comparison. It has an eight foot wingspan–a behemoth, growing fat and large in the years since the bats last descended on Destiny City. Maybe you’re lucky, maybe it just swoops by.

Maybe it’s hungry, or mad, and you look like a prime target. If it attacks, you’re in for a rough time. Scratches cause an itch that might last for up to a day, but the bites are the worst. Being bitten by these bats leaves two small marks that will itch for a few hours. Then, exhaustion and fatigue sets in and you become extremely sensitive to external stimulus; skin feels like it becomes overheated in sunlight, bright lights are painful to the eyes, and smells and sounds can seem overwhelming. The victim will feel constantly cold and hungry, no matter how much they eat or drink. They may also be prone to agitation and bouts of violence. These afflictions may last only a few hours or a few days and then suddenly disappear.

(Being attacked by the bat can be counted as a battle once per character provided there are at least two powered characters involved; no matter how much you seem to damage the bat, it will always fly away and hardly even seems worse for the wear. You cannot track it or severely damage it. This prompt can be used for the battle or the afterwards of being attacked, or anything else you might be inspired to play!)

Once was annoying enough. But to run into yet another unnaturally giant oversized creature that was keen on attacking them? Lani couldn’t help but feel like she was being set up by a certain cat…

“Ya know, if I didn’t know any better, I’d think you’d have something to do with this,” the newly upgraded Super Morishita said to the fluffy kitten with her, “But you’re a little too dumb to do anything like this, huh?”

The giant bat was more than a little more complicated to dodge compared to the giant cicada horde. Then again, maybe it had to do with the part where it was very much more aggressively swooping at them. Once more, as with the cicadas, Morishita envisioned letting it fly away with Rune and making a run for it.

“I hope you don’t expect me to fight,” the super senshi said, “‘Cause I’m not too keen on having to get shots after this.”

Or having to explain why she needed shots.

Or having to take Rune to the vet for her own shots (did Mauvians even need vet care though?)

ambiguously setting this after her eventual backdated upgrade? so we can still do outfit reveal at the same time and ruin Lani’s day

Rune couldn’t help but bite her lip ever so slightly. It was one thing for Morishita to complain, as that was exceedingly common, but it was another to be accused of being responsible for the not-so-nice and risky encounter. Even she herself didn’t know if the encounter would be considered rabies-induced to begin with. So how could she be responsible? These nefarious creature(s) weren’t her choice of company, after all.

Regardless, even though her patience ran slightly thin, which is pretty rare for her, she figured that wouldn’t right to respond to Morishita’s annoyance in kind. After all, it was understandably unpleasant, and as a guardian cat, it would be best if she could quell this senshi’s concerns.

“A-ahem… this encounter simply cannot be left alone. And, as a senshi of your caliber, it is your duty to purge this nonsense” Rune explained while cautiously scanning the area.

The kitten trotted along to keep up with the huffy Morishita who was clearly trying to escape from this aforementioned flying nonsense.

‘Anyway, it shouldn’t take us long to find some helpful reinforcements…?’ Rune thought to herself. The alert they received hardly mentioned the size of this particular encounter. That was a very important detail to bring up beforehand, one would think.

As soon as she thought they were very much in the clear, she couldn’t help but freeze, her tail raising up straight out of caution. The air suddenly felt quite… what’s the word… heavy.

“W-wait. I think there’s something flying towards us.?” Rune warily warned.

Duty, schmuty. Morishita didn't really care much for anything that implied it was her sworn duty as a senshi or whatever to take care of whatever annoying creature or suspicious individual was presenting a problem at the moment; she preferred her tried and true strategy of just coasting along doing the bare minimum, and yet somehow gaining an upgrade in the process. It worked this far, so why fix what wasn't broken?

"Yeah, yeah, you don't need to tell me again," Morishita said, in her usual dismissive tone. Rune loved to always remind her about how this or that was her job, as if she was getting paid to do any of this, and not just doing it all pro bono without any compensation. Well, perhaps she was supposed to assume that 'the fuzzy feeling in your heart from doing the right thing' was supposed to be payment... not that she ever really [i[felt anything like that, as much as she usually just felt annoyed and bored at having to be dragged out of bed or away from her computer, to be thrust into another pointless battle that Rune could have asked any of her other silly little friends to take care of.

(And Morishita knew Rune had plenty of powered friends who were more than capable of taking care of this in her stead.)

"Argh- Strike of the Mountain Cat-!" the teen senshi called out her newly upgraded attack, as the bat swooped at them again, "I swear if this bat has anything that I pick up off of it, I'm taking away your streaming privileges for a week and changing the wifi password."

(Though Rune probably would find a way around that..?)

Rune darted across and slid behind some plant life nearby, hoping that it would conceal her appearance. As she ran to hide, she tried to pay attention to her surroundings and making sure that Morishita wasn’t slipping up. Her complaints were as expected, but it reminded Rune just how painfully annoying this kind of situation was turning out. It was a shame that she didn’t have another useful and more nimble form to run around in, but this miniscule form of hers sufficed for now. After all, it still had its uses.

“Eek! None of that, please! The thought of having said privileges just sound utterly terrifying!” Rune couldn’t help but panic. It was… unbefitting of a guardian cat, but she really, really enjoyed making full use of the aforementioned privileges. She had no choice but think of a solution quickly.

“Uh… I think it’d be great if we could see if there are any allies nearby and have us join forces,” Rune suggested. “But first… I think I better try this-”

Rune drew herself closer to the enormous bat. Tiny as she is, she took advantage of skirting around its blind spot and decided to try being more proactive in combat for once. It’ll be rather exhausting, though.

“Here goes nothing… take this laser beam!”

Whether Rune could be heard or not, her actions spoke much louder. From her forehead star was a fairly long and slender laser beam. It didn’t harm the bat per se, but it did startle if not stunned it and confused it. Now would be a good time to get away, but alas, Rune could only crawl and hide nearby.

To anyone else observing… what Rune did seemed rather silly and a colossal waste of time, but Rune was not that foolish! Well, possibly. She did momentarily detect a helpful presence nearby… someone aligned with the Order in fact. With Rune making a big fuss via laser beam, surely help should notice her distress valiant signal and come to their rescue.

ok I remembered that Rune as a guardian cat can do the laser beam thing too albeit at a cost of her energy oops

Rune made herself useful for once and instead of continuing to lecture her or try to direct her to do this or that, the Mauvian used her laser thing instead. Well, at least Morishita would give the kitten credit for doing at least that much, though she still didn't have a positive outlook on their current situation. Ducking and dodging only went so far, and Morishita ended up with a small scratch across her cheek that was already starting to itch. She may have not been that conceited about keeping her skin free from blemishes, but this was going to require a bit of concealer to cover up...

This was definitely shaping up to be a losing battle, at least in Mori's opinion, seeing as nothing they did seemed to phase the bat all that much. It was a little like fighting the giant cicadas, except those were squishable, so not entirely the same. If none of Rune's friends (or any other powered individuals that happened to be conveniently in the area but declined to participate in the ruckus up until now??) showed up soon, booking it on out of there was definitely going to be the best option here, regardless of what leaving a giant indestructible bat unattended would do.

The bat swooped at them again, and Morishita prepared to duck, but just then a bright (and annoyingly familiar) light blinded them... and also the bat, and the aura of a squire told her all she needed to know about who just showed up.

"Don't worry, I got you!" Aogashima called out, as she channeled her magic to distract the bat. She almost scooped up Rune like the last time to help the kitten make her getaway, but remembered Morishita was there, and backed down from that plan. It wouldn't do good to make her mad again! Morishita had blocked her number for a week straight after that last time...

Problem was, Aogashima couldn't distract the bat for -too- long, and she also couldn't just go swinging around her weapon while also channeling her magic- there was a certain level of concentration required, and focusing was already something she was bad at! As always, times like these were ones where it would have been handy to have her sister around, because Hakodate was really good at the strategizing thing, given that she was the smart sibling and all that. With it just being her, Rune, and Rune's senshi, though, that left them with only a few choices...

"Hey Mori! Um, so, umm..." the cosmos squire needed to think fast, before her magic wore off, "You have some more uses of your magic left, right? Can you hit it again? It might go away if you hit it while it can't see straight!"

She wasn't super sure about that, really, but shoot, things worked in mysterious ways around Destiny City, didn't they? So, it was worth a try, right? And, well, if that didn't work, well... then... maybe if they ran really fast, the bat couldn't catch up to them, and -then- she could try calling one of her other knight or senshi friends to help out? Hopefully Mori wouldn't block her again this time.

'Just hit it again even though it didn't do any good the last time' was the stupidest idea Morishita had heard in awhile, but it wouldn't be the last, especially when coming from Aogashima's mouth. Still, they were kind of otherwise out of other useful ideas, and this bat scratch was -really- distracting. So, for once in a lifetime, the senshi of yamamayaa was going to have to go along with the squire's plans.

"Fine, fine, it's not like it did anything last time, but here goes- Strike of the Mountain Cat," Morishita called out again, because what did they have to lose at this point?

Rune watched Morishita unleash a nonchalant Strike of the Mountain Cat at the bat. Similar to last time, it appeared that it did not quite leave a noticeable dent again, which was a huge shame. Fortunately, it was enough to encourage it to stare blankly at the trio before deciding that it had better things to do.

“Well, that works too. Well done!” Rune commented happily and tiredly. “Thanks for coming at the right time, Aogashima.”

Now, what’s next? Rune, feeling rather exhausted, hoped that the two and kitten would agree to leave the premises and head back.

I'd ponder on more, but sadly, my hands are tied with temnporarily looking after my apartment's cute dog

The bat fluttered(? flittered?) off to wherever it came from, which possibly should have been something to worry about, given that they were letting a giant invincible bat loose into the wild like that, but none of the parties present were thinking about that, probably. Instead, Aogashima let out a little cheer, her wisp companion that she had bonded with a couple of months ago appearing briefly as well, as if to join in the celebrations. Hey, it was a bit of a Hail Mary, but Aogashima's plan (that she had come up with on the fly) worked!

"It's no problem at all!" the squire said cheerfully, "You can always call on me whenever you need help."

Not that Rune had called her up or anything, though the cat knew how to get ahold of the Cosmos squire, but surely Rune knew what she meant! They were besties, after all, and Aogashima would certainly hate to see her feline companion and fellow idol end up being bat food or anything horrible like that...

"Anyway, I guess I better get going now, since I doubt Mori would like it if I stuck around for too long... you can text me if you want to hang out later, though! Maybe we could go out for some boba and karaoke? Lemme know- seeya!"

And then she was out, before Morishita could give her any dirty looks.

Morishita rolled her eyes as the squire left, though it was true that she didn't like seeing Aogashima around, much less watching her be all buddy-buddy with her cat... even if the teen wasn't really one to consider Rune a 'friend' herself.

Jealousy, maybe, someone would suggest? But probably not, because Morishita just found that the two were extra extra annoying when they were in the same room for longer than a few minutes. At least she was gone, now, before the cat and squire duo could break out into a musical number or whatever it was those two liked to do so much. The scratch she received from the bat was distractingly itchy... but at least she didn't get bitten, not that Morishita liked her current predicament any better.

"Whatever. It's gone now, so I'm going back home," the senshi of yamamayaa said, powering down back to Kalani, and making her way back, without waiting to see if the fluffy kitten was following or not.

As always, alls well that (dubiously) ends well? Or something to that effect.
