Quote: Magic Mushrooms (11) - Peppering the roof of the cave, the walls, and even some pockets of cool, packed dirt, these strange mushrooms range from the size of peas to grapefruits and have a round cap that seems to vary greatly in terms of height, width, and shape. They have soft, resilient gills, and stems that are either short and stout or tall and narrow. These mushrooms have an odd, natural bioluminescence across their whole form. There has been some enthusiastic debate about what causes this, but the general understanding is that it’s perfectly natural. The mushrooms are able to grow in this area due to the mineral content in the waters, the cool, dark environment, the rich soil, and the unique makeup of the plants and trees in the area. The mushrooms are unique in their brightness. If removed from the area, they can glow for a few hours before they will eventually fade and begin to deteriorate. While these mushrooms may be kept in small quantities, it requires great effort to keep them alive outside of the cave. And why would you want to? The mushrooms have a bitter flavor and consuming them can result in stomach pains–if you can even keep them down long enough. If there’s a way to cook these, or do anything at all with them, no one’s found it yet. Lisse was back in the underground graveyard. He had wanted to investigate it more…and had felt so bad with how frightened Julian had been, but…he was back now, back and ready to explore.
He and his brother were now even more awkward, after the death game they had just played and then Halle vanished up to his wonder but…whatever. He was fine on his own. Great on his own. He had the die with him that he had gone into that place with…and he was going to see if something down here could power it back up again.
When the Page finally got to an area close enough to see what was growing, he tilted his head, wrinkling his nose.
…They were mushrooms. Glowing mushrooms. That…wasn’t at all what he had expected…thinking that maybe it was going to be from moss or…something but. He hadn’t known any mushrooms to glow.
He was poking and prodding some of the specimens, and was deep in his own thoughts. The fact that this was an obviously popular place didn’t really occur to him…or matter. And he wasn’t bothering to keep his senses open for other auras either.
…Which was a shame.

Lori had returned home from work that day to discover a very excited Obie. Talking all about this cave she had found, with this glowing mushrooms that she had never seen before. The adorable little kitten could not stop talking about them, though she also mentioned they would not be very good in food. Still, she did say it was a sight worth seeing. It might also be a very good place to drain some poor souls of their energy. So at least they'd wake up surrounded my glowing mushrooms. How considerate of her, right?
Before long she was out the door and following Obie's directions to the best of her ability. Along the way at some point she found a good place to power up. This time of year people were always dressed up on the streets to she didn't see the need to sneak around all that much. She did casually steal some energy along the way, but not enough to leave anyone passed out. Her real target was the cave after all.
To her absolute delight, as she entered the cave she could sense someone else inside. And here she thought she'd just get a little taste of some innocent bystander. There was a much better meal ahead of her now.
Seeing as how easily she came upon him though, she wondered if it would be as fun as she initially thought.
"Careful there sweetie, the mushrooms aren't the only things that glow in the dark around here." Her normally vibrant purple eyes began to glow an eerie green. "It might be nice to test exactly what's more poisonous, the mushroom or me?"

The fact that there was suddenly a voice would have been enough to make Lisse jump, but when he realized that there was an aura that went with the voice…and that it felt stronger than he was…almost like Targovishte did…he felt a cold dread wash over him.
“I’m…going to guess that you’re just here to look at the mushrooms too, right? There’s no need to get ugly, is there? I don’t think anything has to be poisonous…”
There was a small waver in his voice that he tried to hide, but wasn’t completely sure if that…well. If that would even work. “Look, I’ve had a really crummy night…there was this game and like, fire and lady, I hate fire. With a passion. I…and now my brother is even more mad at me so I really…would love to be left alone? Maybe? Please?”
Hopefully…
Maybe. His pleading would work?
“There’s a lot of mushrooms, you can keep to yourself and so can I, easy.”

He got some points for effort at least. He was certainly trying to hide the fact that she had caught him unprepared. He could try to persuade her to leave him be, but she most certainly wasn't going to. It had been a while since she'd seen some actual combat.
"Well, if you were having such a bad night you should have stayed home." Poor thing, he looked younger than her, but since when did that really matter? It would be a shame to snuff out such a young life, but that didn't mean she was just going to let him walk out of here either. After all, she had come down here with the intention of doing at least something a little bad.
"You really shouldn't remove the mushrooms from the cave. They're not likely to survive elsewhere. If you like them so, I could arrange for you to stay here with them?" Nubi certainly did have a way of playing with her enemies. The whole time with a bright smile on her face.
"Why not try to get around me so you can flee to safety?" While he didn't seem to be particularly strong, she was still waiting for him to make a move. She stood with her hands on he hips daring him to make even the smallest move toward her. The glow did not leave her eyes. Her magic was simply waiting for those magical words to activate.

“I’m not trying to remove them. Just looking at them.” He…honestly had been thinking of removing a few…it would be interesting to see if they continued to glow after being plucked or not…but.
“The bad night happened after I had already left home. I’ve been staying out to not bring all the badness back home. Cut me some slack. I’m not stupid.” Lisse felt rather stupid right now though…exposed…
Trapped. It wasn’t a good feeling, and he wished that Halle were with him…or Almere even…if there were two of them together then…well. It would be better but.
“All right. Fine. If that’s my only way out then…I will.”
He swallowed and let his eyes, which were thankfully rather used to the darkness by now dart around and he took off running, trying to give her as much space as possible and simply get around her.

Nubi was a little disappointed that he didn't even attempt a fight, but that might have been her fault for literally telling him he should run away. If only she had teased him a bit less, or maybe the opposite. Maybe ruffling his father a little more would have set him off.
"Oh my, you sure are quick on your feet!" Well, she didn't want this to be done too soon. A little bit of hope might also spark that desire to tussle with her. So, she let him whiz on my her at first.
"Ready or not, here I come!" Would counting down from ten have been too childish? Still, she couldn't let him get too far away since she had a fun idea on how to torment him a little more.
Teleporting was a little bit draining, okay maybe a lot bit draining. She had been practicing it more recently though and this evening seemed like a good time to put it to combat practice. Better to try it against a little page and be more prepared to use it against a more challenging opponent later.
She turned around to watch her prey running away and then in the blink of an eye she was in front of him again. It was time to stop being so nice though. It would be had for him to stop, given all of the momentum he had built up. So she planted her feet and swung toward him with a balled up right hook.

Okay! He was past her, and she was being a little rude about it but…she seemed like kind of a b***h, no offense…though…Lisse wouldn’t say that out loud. He felt himself relaxing as the entrance of the graveyard came into view but then did let out a startled yelp when suddenly…
…Suddenly she was in front of him.
“But…what? How? You…I…”
He didn’t get a chance to say anything else when her fist met with his face and he howled with surprise and pain, jerking away and then shoving at her with both of his hands. “What the hell lady? You’re crazy!”

The look on his face when she appeared in front of him was priceless. If only she could have gotten a picture of it. It would remain a nice memory of the night at the very least. She felt her fist connect and knew that it had to hurt. Especially since he finally seemed to muster up some courage to fight back a little bit.
The shove did catch her a bit off guard and she stumbled back a little. She had only done it once, but she could already tell some of her strength was gone just from one quick little teleport.
"Who else is going to teach you these things if not for me? I'm a wonderful teacher." Whoever had awakened this kid certainly hadn't taught them a lot. He was either that new, or didn't really have someone to teach him the ropes. On the other hand, she had had someone guiding her down her path almost hand in hand. For a while at least. Until she left.
"I could show you again if you'd like?" Against her better judgement she did in fact teleport again, to the entrance of the cave. "Just a little bit further and you're home free!"

Oh no. The crazy b***h…witch? Crazy…superhero? Something. Twisted hero. Villain? Whatever the heck she was, Lisse wanted to get as far away from her as he could.
“Absolutely not, no thank you!”
He put on as much speed as he could, trying to just run and hoping he would be able to shove her out of the way, she looked…winded? He could only see out of one eye, the other was nearly swollen shut already and so he was assuming she looked winded. Hoping that she was.
If this was anything like DND, hopefully she would be out of spell slots by now…but…
“You’re a b***h!” The words flew out of Lisse with a surprising amount of venom and he leaned down, holding his arms out to shove the woman out of the way, and continued running at his fastest speed. When he couldn’t feel her or anyone else around, he swiftly shed his page form and began another brisk walk, heading back towards Hillworth, choking back tears and wishing that someone was here with him.

Nubi was indeed a bit winded, that darn teleporting might as well be completely useless. She knew now that it was definitely not something she'd be using in a fight unless she was the one trying to get away. Not that she ever saw herself running away from a fight.
When he cursed at her she could help but let out a bright and bubbly laugh. It wasn't exactly what one might expect a villain like her to sound like when they were laughing. He was certainly entertaining, and even though she braced herself for his shove she still toppled over thanks to the energy she spent toying with the poor boy.
"I hope your night gets better!" She called out to him as he sped off. In the end, he had stood up to her. Even if she had done more damage to herself than he had done to her. Maybe she'd see him again sometime and they'd be able to duke it out properly.
She sat at the cave entrance for a little while longer, but grew bored before long and started making her trek back home, unpowered. Obie was absolutely going to love hearing about this when she got home.
