On a routine powered-up patrol one autumn evening, Fringilla came across a strange object on the ground. It was no nut or shriveled leaf or a rock. Instead, it was a finely hewn die. She picked it up without thinking much of it as she was in her powered state.
“Hm? What could this be?” Fringilla asked herself as she examined the die. It was one of those complex dies used with tabletop gaming and such. It was beyond her usual interests, but it did seem fun to do. Except for this one, much to her dismay.
“Oh dear… not this rodeo again,” Fringilla groaned to herself. While she was no stranger to walking into strange phenomena (alone and with company), this situation before her was a lot more than she imagined or bargained for. She even pinched herself slightly, hoping that she was simply falling asleep or something.
Unfortunately, her environment suddenly transformed to include an overlay of some peculiar game board. As things go, it seems she would have to play to escape.

Quote: Space 6You hear a shrill, humming noise; it sounds almost like something is firing past you–and sometimes, you even feel a sharp burst of air, like something has just missed you. Maybe, even, it does get a slice out of you. Sharp, bladelike threads seem to string up around you; you’d best be careful not to get cut on any of them between now and your next dice roll. With the roll of a die, Fringilla found herself at a peculiar spot. At first, it was the usual sound of silence, or rather, the silence found in an empty tree-lined lot. Suddenly, she heard a shrill, humming noise zip past by her. She clamped her mouth shut, trying to swallow if not muffle her scream. Eyes wide, she took several deep breaths and carefully turned around slightly, which was a poor, poor choice. A thread marginally cut against her forearm, and by now, she couldn’t help but wheeze and faintly wail in dismay. She didn’t mean to be cowardly, but this honestly took her by surprise! As soon as her eyes adjusted to the dimness of her surroundings, she realized that the glistening she could see around her were a series of extremely fine threads, and they looked particularly sharp. Better find the exit fast, Fringilla thought to herself as she tried to navigate around. She was able to dodge some of the strings, but a few caught her unawares. Eventually, she spotted her next dice and quickly rolled it. She prayed deep in her heart that it was not going to land her in an unpleasant new square.

Quote: Space 8:Something slithers across your foot, so fast that you might have thought you imagined it. Except, a few seconds later, it happens again. And then, again. Snakes keep moving across your space. If you move, they see you–and they might bite. Some of them hiss, some are capable of spraying a poisonous liquid that can cause itchiness or burning. By the next clearly marked spot of boundary, Fringilla couldn’t help but hear some hissing and some slithering about. She softly shrieked and quickly scanned her surroundings, especially the ground. She blinked as some moving noodle-y thing quickly darted across the path in front of her. Could it be…. Minutes later, Fringilla groaned inwardly upon confirming that this following peculiar spot was filled with snakes. Not many… Thankfully, but they were not to be trifled with. Encountering several hostile danger noodles was certainly not her cup of tea. One scraped her shin and she winced. How deeply unpleasant… unpleasantly itchy! Admittedly, a part of her wanted to scream, but another part simply had to find the end of the square and roll the die to move forward. Eventually, she finally reached the end and without a moment’s notice, she rolled the die once more.

Quote: Space 12:The smell of smoke is in the air. You can’t see what’s burning, but you can hear distant screams, and–carnival music? It feels like people are running past you, and the air fills with panic and alarm–but there’s nowhere for you to go, and the smoke is so thick. You’d better roll quickly so you can get out of here. “Oh… oh no… what a terrible spot to be in,” Fringilla spoke to herself in dismay. Thanks to her keen hearing, she could easily hear carnival music amid a backdrop of smoke, which wasn’t difficult to discern to begin with, and clearly panic-stricken carnival visitors dashing past her to escape. It was clear what she had to do next. Fringilla sprinted together with the escaping crowd as quickly as possible. Before long, she reached the end of the boundary square and quickly rolled the dice once more. ‘When will I be free?!’ Fringilla uttered to herself.

Quote: Space 18: You smell something poison, something noxious. You pass through a haze of strange, green gas as you enter the square, but it fades after a few seconds. You feel cold. You feel empty. You start to decay. Maybe a part of you knows it’s an illusion, but in that split second when your body feels like it might go limp and when you look at your hand and see skin melting. You see bone. You’d best roll the dice so you don’t wind up a skeleton prop for the next player. “U-urk…” Fringilla quickly clasped her mouth shut. Just as she thought she was freed from the smoke, now there was a mysterious greenish gas in the air. Clearly, she should not breathe it under any circumstances. Her shin was still itchy, her shoulders stiff from the tension, and mentally, she didn’t feel fantastic. Physically, too, in fact. Fringilla tried to navigate through the greenish cloud and shivered. Shortly, she felt some sort of nausea, which is, quite frankly, downright terrible and a sign that she absolutely must escape as soon as possible. Fortunately, she found the edge of the boundary and rolled the die. It’s about time that she gets out once and for all. In the back of her mind, she couldn’t help but imagine a series of what-ifs… the kind where she was not in any peril and was simply enjoying a seasonal mug of pumpkin spice latte whilst being surrounded by fluffy cats.

Quote: Space 19: You’re so close! Almost at the end! But the space you’re standing on shifts and shakes and seems to crumble beneath you. You have to hold on; there’s nowhere to fall but down into the deep abyss. If you manage to hang on for long enough, you find some invisible purchase and can pull yourself back up, but it’s quite the ordeal. Make sure you don’t get cut on falling spaces! The ground restores itself once you roll again. “Eek!” Fringilla cried, grabbing onto the closest thing her hands could grab. “T-This is not how I want it to end!” Unfortunately, luck was not on her side as her strength eventually failed her or did the ground fail her? Regardless, she immediately squeezed her eyes shut and attempted to brace for impact. Except… Her feet landed on some invisible ground for one, and somehow, her body simply wouldn’t give up as her hand did graze something to hold upon. This caused her wrist to twist uncomfortably for a bit, but then she realized upon feeling the invisible wall happened to contain other points to grab on… almost as if there was an invisible rock climbing wall. Fringilla swallowed. This wouldn’t be easy… climbing it. But… If there was something to hold… wouldn’t her feathers be useful markers? They would… stick, right? She then tested a feather out and it stuck. How… interesting?! It wouldn’t hurt to continue… perhaps… but more feathers were in order. Just as she was about to fish out some more feathers, her die fell out of her bunch, and it ended up rolling for her. Before she could react, she got swallowed up by a warm light.

Quote: Space 20: The end; once you have arrived here you are free to leave. You will see be basked in the glow of a beautiful, opalescent aura that will take you back home. If you arrived with a guest, you can leave without them or choose to stay until they make it to the end as well. When you arrive back in Destiny City, you may choose to keep the six sided die–if nothing else, it’s pretty! Though, it doesn’t seem to have any magical qualities, that might be for the best. Fringilla collapsed upon landing on the newest square. ‘Ah… the ground feels so comforting…’ Fringilla briefly thought to herself, strange as it seemed. A second later, she realized that it simply felt pleasant, because there was a comfortable opalescent aura surrounding her. At first, it simply glowed gently, but then her vision was filled with light. Her vision then cleared up, finding herself nestled on the cool ground lit by the streetlamp. She felt a faint yet cool breeze zoom past her, as if telling her that this strange episode of one potential peril after another has come to an end. On the palm of her hand was the strange die. A part of her was tempted to toss it away, but on the other hand, it was quite beautiful, and no matter how much she held it and rolled it, nothing happened. Rather than tossing it (and well, littering the park would be a terrible thing to do as a citizen), she pocketed and then darted from the area as quickly as possible. Any further patrol would be unwise at this point, probably. All she craved at this point was the safety and comfort her home provided.
