Quote: The Leaves (7) - With the changing seasons, there are piles of leaves all around Destiny City. It’s a difficult job to try and keep up with them all, and sometimes the allure of these leaf piles is impossible to ignore. Maybe they just need a good kick? Or, who doesn’t want to relive the childish joys of their youth? And no one’s around to see, right? So why not jump into a pile of leaves? Oh–because, when you do, you jump through one pile and come out of another somewhere else across the city. The leaves all seem ordinary, but there’s a few odd seconds between when you jump into the leaves and when you jump out; it feels like falling, tumbling, somersaulting through the air. It’s not scary, just odd. You see walls of leaves–brown and orange and yellow and red–and they crunch magnificently. Overall, it doesn’t seem menacing, just a bit of trickster fun. If you try to step into, or jump in a pile of leaves again, you might wind up somewhere else entirely–or right back where you started. Ever since she’d had that moment of ‘enlightenment’, about how she wasn’t simply a pampered overly fluffy house cat, Dalgona had been attempting to adjust to her new surroundings and responsibilities, as well as catch up on modern times. Previously, she’d never had to ponder about internet slang or lingo, or what this or that acronym meant or stood for- she was just a cat, after all! Now, the knowledge was sort of there as to how to work modern electronics, but knowing and comprehending were two different things, even if Dalgona at least semi understood that these were things Guardian Cats were supposed to know and have the skills come naturally to them. Living with two children that happened to be senshi was another thing to adjust to, and while Dalgona preferred to remain an indoor cat (because after all, that was all she had known, when she wasn’t being brought outside on a harness, or carried in a carrier), just hanging out in the yard was fine enough, wasn’t it? Dalgona would swear up and down and insist that she wasn’t quite a senior cat yet, but she felt her age sometimes as today’s youth ran circles around her… though her ‘awakening’ as a Mauvian certainly gave her a bit of a second wind. There were a couple piles of leaves in the yard, as the twins’ had been helping their parents recently by raking the leaves so that they could be turned into mulch for the garden at a later time; Dalgona, although not normally one for such childish things, felt a sudden urge to go jumping into one of the piles like a mischievous kitten, perhaps due in part to that newfound ‘youthfulness’ she had gained as a Mauvian. Only… when she pounced on top the pile, she felt a strange sensation as she sank into the leaves, as if she was falling or tumbling through the air, an odd thing to be feeling just for jumping into a leaf pile. Even stranger, when she jumped out of the pile, the cross-eyed Ragdoll found herself somewhere entirely different altogether, a part of Destiny City she was unfamiliar with. “… Oh. Oh dear,” the cat murmured to herself, feeling more than just a little flustered.

Layla knew that the city she lived in wasn’t…normal. She herself wasn’t normal, she was a magical girl, and as cool as that was…it wasn’t…normal...but.
But a cat coming out of the freshly made pile of leaves she had just raked up was…particularly…strange.
Of course the cat talked, because…that was just what cats did in this city and with a soft sigh and a half wish that she didn’t have to deal with such things, she took a step closer and knelt down. “Hey…uh. Did you mean to do that? The whole…popping out of my leaves? Or is that not a talking cat trick…I don’t really think it’s a talking cat trick, but I’ve only met one so far so…I could be wrong. Are you all right?”
She had to be polite, after all. “I’m Layla!”

Sometime after Dalgona's mid-life crisis was over, she'd have to get the hang of this whole knowing when (and when not) to talk, but then again to be fair, she hadn't expected to wind up in someone else's front yard. The girl who greeted her seemed to know what she was, and also appeared to be around the same age as the twins, and the Ragdoll wondered if perhaps they were acquainted, something that would make things much easier, if she happened to know how to get back home. Still, it took Dalgona a solid minute of internal panic and deliberation as to if she should play it off and pretend she didn't wasn't actually capable of human speech, or if she should answer Layla. In the end, she went with answering the girl. "I can assure you this was no 'talking cat trick'... whatever that is!" the fluffy cat stammered out, still bewildered by this strange experience, "... Rather, I believe I was the one that a trick was being played upon." "I'm terribly sorry for arriving in your yard like this, Layla," the cat offered, still awkwardly navigating this newfound world of being a 'talking cat' one (slow) step at a time, "... I do believe I'm lost. I am Dalgona- might you know the way to the Shirogane household?"

Shirogane household? Why did that name sound so familiar…?
Layla reached out and offered a hand to the cat, still pondering over the name and finally she let out a noise of surprise as her mind put two and two together…literally.
“Isn’t that Sato and Nemu’s last name? Do you know them? They’re my friends…they’re the ones that first um. Introduced me to talking cats!” Hesitating for a moment, Layla reached into her picket and let her henshin pen peek out just so that Dalgona could see it. “I know them really well if that’s who you’re talking about…and I’m happy to get you back there! Or you could come inside and hang out with me and they could come to get you? Whichever is easier!”
Honestly…Layla half hoped that Dalgona would ask to stay for a little while.

Oh. Layla mentioned not only being an acquaintance of the twins, but also that they had introduced her to 'talking cats'... and suddenly things made sense when she also showed Dalgona a peek of her henshin pen as well. Well, it would make sense for the twins to make acquaintances with other children their age... who also had powered identities, wouldn't it? Though, this other talking cat Layla spoke of... Dalgona had reason to suspect it was the same one that gave the twins their powers. Quite possibly, this other cat probably had contributed to Satori turning out the way she was headed, at that, but that was a conversation for another time. "I do indeed know them," the fluffy cat confirmed, because there was no harm in divulging that bit of information of Layla was their friend- she'd find out soon enough on her own otherwise, "Well, I can't say I understand entirely how it came to be, but I live together with them now." She couldn't quite wrap her head around how they knew what she was without ever seeing her before, or how she'd lived so long with her previous owner without anyone else noticing, but... Layla was giving the fluffy cross-eyed cat some options, and Dalgona deliberated over both equally. Getting back home would be nice, but if there was something out there playing tricks on her, perhaps it would be best for the twins to come and retrieve her instead, so she didn't risk falling into any more strange leaf portals... "It is a little bit chilly out," the Mauvian mused, "I suppose there's no harm in heading indoors for awhile..."

“That’s amazing! I’m glad that you get to live with two such nice people! You seem very nice too!” Bending down, Layla scooped the Mauvian up by her armpits and cradled her against her chest, paws up over her shoulders. “I’ll call them and see what they want to do, and we can figure things out from there…but…one question, how did you get here? Like, it really looked like you just popped out of the earth and leaves but…I mean. I know you weren’t sleeping under them or anything…I had just raked them up!”
She kind of doubted that Dalgona would know the answer, especially since she said she didn’t understand how something came to be…that was all right.
“You just have to vouch for me that I didn’t steal you, please. In case they ask!”
…Layla really didn’t think that would happen but…it was always better to be safe rather than sorry.

"It's the strangest thing, really..." Dalgona replied, as she struggled to make sense of the chain of events that led to her appearing in Layla's front yard, "There was a pile of leaves in the yard of the Shirogane residence, much like this one, only..." The Ragdoll was a little flustered, both at trying to understand what had just transpired not even fifteen minutes ago, and also at being picked up. She was a fairly docile cat as far as temperament went, owing to being from a breed known for being 'floppy cats', but she was a little unused to being handled by children... especially given that she was a big ball of fluff. Still, the Mauvian had no protests to being carried around, so long as Layla was gentle. "Well, I just can't quite explain it, really! I thought I may have some fun jumping into the leaves, only to find myself... here."

Layla hummed and finally gave a slight shrug. “Well…whatever the cause, I’m glad that you’re here! I’ll make sure to take good care of you until we can call Nemu or Satori to come and bring you home!” She loved cats, and the fact that this one, a strange cat she had never met before was just chilling in her arms, was absolutely lovely.
“If the leaves are taking people places…then I suppose we’ll have to either get rid of them or just be more careful when walking in them! I’m not sure…but…I’m glad you’re here, honestly.” Layla made her way towards the house and carefully opened the door before slipping inside. “I’ll go ahead and call them now, make yourself at home, Dalgona!” She put the cat down and made her way towards the couch, hopping onto it and patting the space next to her, before pulling her phone out. “Can I get you anything to help you be comfortable? Water or something?”
