The vibrant leaves that were falling gently to the ground had an entrancing effect on the lone figure that was standing just underneath one of the trees that was losing its foliage. Lysanna (although when in human disguise it was Anastasia) reached up absently with her left hand to snatch a leaf from the air before bringing it closer to examine. Her gaze turned pensive as she let her hand drop to her side.
Here she was, on Earth, for all of ten months so far and she didn't have anything to show for it really. She'd been able to assist in a few areas around the communal house that all those in the Vanguard shared but project wise, she'd come up fairly empty in trying to assist anyone. It would eventually get better but for now she merely wished to at least observe this particular phenomena that occurred every fall.
As she continued to walk under a natural archway of tree branches did something else catch her eye. A strange object lay on the ground and Lysanna gave it a cursory once over before bending down to rescue it from its resting place. How odd. Even odder was the sudden gust of wind that sprung up out of nowhere, slamming into her side and causing her to lose focus as everything around her went black.Quote: Space 0: You have arrived here; nothing happens until you roll your die.

Lysanna's gaze took in the blackness that was around her. In her hand she still gripped the strange object that she had found earlier. The shape of it, and the odd markings might have pointed to some strange human contraption but what sort of power did it have to bring her to some strange realm. Her Comtech was turned on and even as she tried to gather whatever ambient readings she could did the cadet realize that perhaps in wherever she was, it was best to appear as herself. Switching off her glamour she felt a modicum of relief as her hand brushed against her energy axe. At least she wasn't defenseless.
Squinting at the glowing path that seemed illuminated did Lysanna attempt to merely start walking across it when she found her way barred by an invisible barrier. "Well that's not good. How am I to get out of here if I can't move to that other platform? I wonder if I can send any data back for others to pick over."
Activating the program that would neatly pick up her voice and turn it into text did Lysanna begin to describe her surroundings. It was during a moment of turning around to push against the barrier that the die slipped out of her grasp and Lysanna almost stumbled forward as the barrier that had been keeping her from proceeding forward melted away. Realization struck on how it was that she'd get out of here.
Moving across two complete squares, Lysanna felt walls slam up again as she crossed into the third square before an atmospheric event started seeping in. Was this what those on Earth called fog? Lysanna's eyes strained to see where it was that she needed to go next. The continued decline in visibility meant she had to resort to getting on her hands and knees in order to search for her missing die. As easy as it might have been to find something when she was the only thing in the square ... Lysanna was finding it extremely difficult. There was a sensation of something that was lurking behind the heavy curtains of fog and for a moment Lysanna stilled before her hand brushed the familiar contours of the die. "At last," ... was muttered out loud as she let the die fall from her open palm, giving her the freedom to move onwards.Quote: Space 3: A strange fog rolls in once you land here. You lose sight of nearly everything, including the game board. If you want to roll, you’re going to have to get close to the ground to even see where you’re supposed to go next. Hopefully nothing sneaks up behind you.

As soon as the barrier dropped the cadet scrambled along the pathway as far as she could get before feeling the walls slam back up in front of her. Spinning around Lysanna took a deep breath before the sounds registered. Snarling. Deep, ferocious noises, as if coming from a rather large animal. Typing quickly onto her Comtech the cadet hypothized that the unseen beast was of the canid persuasion.
It still was unseen even with repeated glances over her shoulders. Locating the die Lysanna froze as something wet landed on the back of her neck and she shrieked in surprise before dropping the die. As soon as the barrier lowered, she was out of the current square and on her way forward once more.
"No more canines, no more."Quote: Space 5: A dog barks, fierce and frightening. You can hear its growl and the hackles stand up on the back of your neck. You can practically feel spittle on you. It’s close. And it’s big. And it’s angry. If this beastly dog could reach you, no doubt it would try to tear you to shreds.

Panting with exertion from her headlong dash away from whatever canine creature had been breathing down the back of her neck, Lysanna stumbled before remaining on the ground for what was probably longer than necessary. Her gaze locked onto the sight of the die in her hand before sighing outwardly. Whatever place this was, she would have to make a note to the rest of the Vanguard about strange-looking die that transported them to who knew where. There was a definite danger to anyone who came to this place and even as she managed to sit upright did the noises above finally register to the cadet's ears.
Frantically Lysanna's gaze shot upwards but the hoard of bats had had too much time, unnoticed, in which they made there move. The cadet found herself engulfed by the flying mammals, their many wings and tiny claws slapped at her form and scratched at her as well. One creature almost sunk it's teeth into her neck but a well-timed flail of her hand holding the die prevented that from occurring. It also caused the die to fly out of her hand and fall to the floor, dropping the barrier and allowing her to move forward again.Quote: Space 11: You hear a frantic flapping above you, but that’s all the warning you get before a hoard of bats descend. They scratch and slap and screech, but you avoid getting bitten. For now. You’ve invaded their space and they seem keen to defend it. You can try to fight them, but the only way to escape them is to roll again.

The bats were left behind. Lysanna's Comtech flickered once and then turned off and the cadet sighed. From here on out she'd have to remember what she encountered it seemed. The sense of loneliness engulfed the Velencian before she inhaled deeply in an attempt to shake herself out of the stupor she found herself in, only to begin coughing harshly as the smoke, that had been unseen until now, invaded her throat with it's acridness.
Hunching over in an attempt to get lower to the ground did the smell finally register in her mind. FIRE!
Every cadet knew that where there was smoke, there was also fire. But they were also trained to help combat flames on their world of Velencya because once fire broke out, it needed to be contained less it spread to other key systems that kept Velencya hospitable.
So instinct took over and Lysanna straightened before running in the direction that the inferno seemed to be in before getting jostled about by phantom figures. One such impact jarred loose the die in her hands and it fell to the ground. Hurriedly she reached down to grab it just as the barrier dropped in front of her, allowing the chance to escape the smoke and fire filled square. Still feeling like she was choking on the air that she was taking in did Lysanna stumble forwards.
'Just let me get out of here alive...'Quote: Space 12: The smell of smoke is in the air. You can’t see what’s burning, but you can hear distant screams, and–carnival music? It feels like people are running past you, and the air fills with panic and alarm–but there’s nowhere for you to go, and the smoke is so thick. You’d better roll quickly so you can get out of here.

Scurrying down the path Lysanna was so relieved to see the end of the pathway closer than ever but even as she took in her first real gulp of fresh air after leaving the previous zone did she pause at the sudden sound of loud cracking. Her gaze shot down to the tile she stood on for a brief second before it shattered beneath her.
She dropped.
The impact of freezing cold water against her Vanguard uniform at first seemed nothing for concern. Even if it didn't keep the cold out, their physiology meant that cold climes didn't affect them the same as say humans. But even if that were the case, Lysanna didn't really want to see how long she could last in freezing cold water. Making sure that she kept herself afloat by doing what humans called "treading water" did the cadet peer into the distance, trying to figure out a solution into this new little twist. The gameboard path was just illuminated out of reach and it didn't seem wise to attempt moving around much further away from the place she'd fallen through.
Even as she mulled over the options did something briefly register in the water below. Something had definitely caused a disturbance on the water's surface nearby and Lysanna was suddenly on edge as the lightest amount of pressure was placed on her kicking feet and she startled before the pressure returned. Almost of their own volition did her feet still their motions before the sensation of having some unseen object brush itself flush against her form had the cadet grasping out for the nearest piece of ice that was floating towards her before throwing the die down onto the surface.
She'd not be drowned today. The water disappeared as she was back on the path but she was shocked to find that she was now shivering uncontrollably.Quote: Space 16: As you step into your square, something cracks. At first, you can’t tell what it is, but as your full weight moves onto the square, the ground shifts beneath you. It’s cold, and it’s ice, and a hole falls underneath you, plunging you into frigid waters. There’s enough floating ice that you should still be able to roll the dice to get out of here, but you have to go quickly–you’re soaked, in chilly water, and something just swam by your feet.

(from this post forward, rolls are doubled) Reaching what seemed to be the end of the game board did Lysanna turn her head to look at the pathway that she had just made it across. At the far end was the place where she had landed what seemed like ages ago. Even as she stepped fully onto the final platform was she surrounded by an opalescent glow before finding herself back in the city.
"How odd."
Even as she glanced down at the die that she still held tightly in her left palm did she relax the muscles in her fingers before studying the brief indentations left behind on her flesh before she pocketed the strange item. She'd take it back to the Commodore and explain what had happened. Hopefully her comtech had actually taken readings so that she'd have proof of the weird adventure. It could also serve as a warning to other members of the Vanguard to be aware of the dangers that the randomly placed dice represented.
"Never again, although all I did was look at it. How can I warn everyone else?" Quote: Space 20: The end; once you have arrived here you are free to leave. You will see be basked in the glow of a beautiful, opalescent aura that will take you back home. If you arrived with a guest, you can leave without them or choose to stay until they make it to the end as well. When you arrive back in Destiny City, you may choose to keep the six sided die–if nothing else, it’s pretty! Though, it doesn’t seem to have any magical qualities, that might be for the best.
