Patrolling was starting to feel almost like a game, and honestly…thinking of it that way helped Mechelen to want to go out more often. She still wasn’t quite ready to make the trip up to her Wonder but…it was on the list…and honestly…was going to happen sooner rather than later…but.
Not tonight. Tonight she was simply going to take in the crisp air and go for a brisk walk…and breathe. After the strange tumble through the leaves she had done yesterday, Mechelen wanted just a nice walk. A nice patrol to herself and.
A glint of something caught her eye, and the Page paused, bending down and picking up a very out of place but very pretty die.
Hah! The irony of finding a die wasn’t lost on her after just thinking that patrols were like a game but…
But of course. It obviously wasn’t a real...a normal thing to pick up.
Obviously. There was a catch, and as Mechelen looked around, dismay written all over her face…she looked down at the deceptively innocent thing in her hand. “...Is this just the fates trying to taunt me? Because…damn. Okay.”
She supposed all that she could do to get across what looked like an actual game board was…
To roll the die.
And so she did.

And Mechelen rolled a one. Because of course she did. Clearly whatever luck that was with her was faulty…this board was long enough that it would take a lot of ones rolled to get out of here…if that was really the case of how to get out of here…
Right now, with her luck…she doubted it, honestly.
The sound of a mean spirited chuckle and the feeling of someone watching her made the hair on the back of her neck stand on end, and Mechelen looked swiftly around, as though there was some big…villain here, just waiting to attack her, and after a moment, she threw the die again…hoping that if she could move…she would stop the near silent jeering…

Mechelen’s roll was better this time, and she scuttled the five spaces, stopping on the sixth space and giving herself a moment to just listen, hoping that the laughter would have ended and…thankfully…she no longer heard it. She was poised to let out a sigh of relief, when another sound reached her ears, and she turned slightly, moving her arm and let out a yelp when her sleeve was cut by…
What?
Was that string? Some kind of death string? Was she in a spy movie now? Just…what was all of this?
Trying to stay still, but still wanting to have this end, Mechelen tossed her die again, praying for a large number.

Another high roll made Mechelen almost burst out with glee, but as she made it to the next space, she paused, nose wrinkling. Smoke? Was this space on fire? And were there people here? She felt someone shove into her and the smell of smoke grew stronger. This…
Okay, she really didn’t like this and without really thinking, she tossed the die, hoping to get off of this square without being trampled!

Another terrible roll…but at least there was no smoke here…there was…no anything here. For a moment, Mechelen let out a relieved sigh and sank down to her knees for a moment, feeling far too tired to continue…since there was nothing here, she could rest for a moment, gather her wits about her and…
…And…
Oh God. What was that sound? It sounded…
She slowly turned around and felt the blood drain from her face…it was a literal river of…of rats. Jumping to her feet, she tossed the die once again, yelping and just hoping she would get far away from this square.

Thank God. The rats were gone…the…
Mechelen froze as she smelled something…off...and…there was a strange fog in this square and…even though it had passed…something was wrong.
Oh god…was she melting? She looked like she was melting…it…all she felt was cold. Numb. It…it was terrifying.
Luckily, the die fell from her swiftly melting hands and clearly that counted as a roll, so Mechelen stumbled forwards, choking back a sob.

This had to be it. This had to be the exit…and honestly, Mechelen could have cried. That had been…
That had just been...and honestly…she hoped that it would never be again. Swiftly she moved into the glow of the aura and the gameboard and all of its horrors faded behind her.
In her hand still sat the deceptively beautiful die…and for a moment she considered throwing it as far away from herself as she could…but in the end, she slipped it into subspace and headed towards home.
She wanted a bubble bath after this ordeal.
